Leaving Dubai at the start of Leg 9, teams took off and headed forty-six thousand miles eastward to Indonesia and the city of Denpasar on the island of Bali. Once they landed, they could make their way to the entrance of one of the nation's most photographed landmarks, Tanah Lot Temple, where they could take a departure time and tuck themselves into an overnight stay in Tabanan.

The next morning, teams started the day needing to deliver traditional Balinese offerings-- an arrangement of fruits to Enjung Galuh Temple and a live python around their necks to Snake Temple.

Answer: Salt

After relinquishing their offerings, teams needed to look for next clue approximately a half kilometer past the Bat Temple in Klungkung. There, at Banjar Belatung Kusamba Beach, teams found a Road Block for which one member of each pair was required to join the local workforce in harvesting salt. Hauling baskets of seawater, the participants needed to shake out what they collected on a bed of volcanic sand to evaporate the water from the salt contents.

Then, they had to collect salt brine, crystallized in troughs made from hollowed coconut trees. If they could fill four bags of salt they could continue racing. Kurt, Burnie, Korey, Rachel, Cole, and Matt hauled and scraped for this one.

Answer: Selling food

Before Sheri and Cole could commence the salt harvesting Road Block at Banjar Belatung Kusamba Beach they located their Speed Bump task, sending them to the nearby Goa Lawah Temple (the Bat Temple they visited previously) to serve up breakfast. Preparing ten breakfast servings of bakso and selling them to locals for a minimum price, then eating a bowl of their own bakso would result in being able to rejoin the other teams on the race course, returning to the beach to start harvesting salt.

Answer: No

Finishing the salt Road Block, teams had to make their way to Pantai Mertasari to locate their next clue box and, to their surprise, their second Road Block of the leg. For this task, the team member who did not complete the salt harvesting Road Block needed to step in to build a massive kite for the Bali Kite Festival then, with help from locals, get their kite airborne. Ashley, Korey, Brodie, Sheri, Dana, and Zach were required to participate in this challenge and take flight for their clue.

Answer: Zach and Rachel

Once team members flew their kites for the second Road Block they could take off on a mad dash to the race's ninth Pit Stop. Heading by taxi to the nearby Semawang Beach, teams had to hop into an outrigger canoe and paddle out to sea, making their way to the phinisi sailing boat offshore to step onto the mat. Tyler and Korey, after several legs out of the top position, regained the lead to take their third victory of the race.

This time, landing on the mat, they were rewarded with $5,000 USD each. Making it by a nose, Brodie and Kurt barely beat out Zach and Rachel to the Pit Stop, eliminating the couple in sixth place and leaving five teams in the race.

Teams spent their night on the boat that acted as their ninth Pit Stop, starting Leg 10 adrift off the coast of Nusa Penida. Taking a boat to Gamat Bay, teams searched the waters off the edge of Nusa Lembongan for one of three submerged clue boxes containing their next clue.

This started a string of intricate travel arrangements for which teams had to take a high-speed boat to Mushroom Beach at the Hai Tide Beach Resort, then a taxi to the Pura Puseh Stairway, don sarongs, and follow a dancing monkey up the stairs to get their Detour clue.

Answer: 'Haul'

Ripping open their Detour task, teams found they had a choice between 'Harvest' and 'Haul'. In 'Harvest', teams had to head to a local seaweed farm and, using a canoe, harvest enough seaweed to cover a full tarp to dry. In 'Haul', teams instead headed to the Lembongan-Ceningan Suspension Bridge, delivering fifty coconuts and four chickens by hand across the narrow structure. All five teams headed to 'Haul', using their strength and endurance to get the task done.

Answer: Brodie and Kurt

After the Detour, teams needed to make their way to the forewarned Double U-Turn board waiting at Warung Sunrise. At this pivotal route marker, Tyler and Korey, in the lead, used their U-Turn on Brodie and Kurt while Burnie and Ashley, right behind them, made a tactical play by U-Turning Tyler and Korey. Since Tyler and Korey had already passed the U-Turn board, they were unaffected by the choice.

This meant that Brodie and Kurt had to turn around and complete the 'Harvest' Detour choice before resuming their tasks.

Answer: A pilates session

Passing by the Double U-Turn, teams had to head back to the Hai Tide Beach Resort to grab their Road Block clue at the Pande Curly Paddleboard Shop. Here, one member of each team (Tyler, Ashley, Cole, Matt, and Brodie) needed to take a jet ski out to the Blue Lagoon and climb four stories up the side of a coastal cliff.

At the top, team members enjoyed a pilates session to loosen them up before they performed a forty foot dive into the ocean. Once they reunited with their partner in a boat waiting offshore they could read their next clue.

Answer: Brodie and Kurt

After the cliff-dive was completed, teams were directed to their tenth Pit Stop at the Bajra Sandhi Monument, back on the island of Bali. Tyler and Korey, holding onto their lead in this leg, won their fourth of the competition, this time claiming a cruise through Alaska for two (courtesy, as always, of Travelocity).

The Double U-Turn, used to its tactical potential, ended up being the death knell for Brodie and Kurt who, though they gained on other teams, were unable to avoid arriving in last place and found themselves eliminated from the race.
