Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which state did teams begin this third "Amazing Race"?

Answer: Florida

A total of twelve teams departed from the starting line of this third "Amazing Race" in the Florida Everglades. Picking up their first clue from their bags as soon as given the go-ahead, teams were instructed to travel to Miami, then fly to Mexico City on the way to their second clue at the Angel of Independence.

In order to do this, teams needed to hop onto one of two designated flights out of Miami with seats being first-come-first-serve. The first flight, containing seven teams, would depart an hour before the second, containing five.
2. In Leg 1 in Mexico City, teams needed to find a man with what name?

Answer: Pablo

Once at the Angel of Independence, teams were told to find one man out of the millions in Mexico City using only a picture. With this information, teams needed to deduce that the man, named Pablo, could be found at Zocalo, also known as Constitution Square. Once this man was found, teams could collect their next clue, telling them to make their way to Hotel de Cortes across town to sign up for one of three Mexi-Mini Charter buses which would take them to their next destination the following morning. Four teams could fit on each bus, and each bus would leave two hours apart from one another.
3. Which team collected the first Fast Forward of the race in Leg 1?

Answer: Ken and Gerard

Before teams took their charter buses, Ken and Gerard and Derek and Drew attempted to claim the Fast Forward clue which required that teams go to Plaza Santo Domingo in Mexico City and find the one typist found there who had their clue to take them to the Pit Stop. Ken and Gerard, having taken a taxi to the destination, were the first to pick up their clue and as a result got to skip the rest of the first leg, taking their own vehicle and going directly to the Pit Stop.
Meanwhile, the teams began to make their way via bus to Tequesquitengo Airfield for their next clue.
4. Which was is the only team of these to complete the 'Wheels' detour task in Leg 1?

Answer: Michael and Kathy

Once arriving at the airfield, teams received their Detour clue, a choice between 'Wings' and 'Wheels'. In 'Wings', teams needed to hop into a plane and perform a tandem skydive to reach the next clue box. Although frightening, teams would be able to reach their clues immediately after the task.

In 'Wheels', teams needed to choose a donkey cart and follow a map through a seven mile course to the next clue box. Although not as daunting, the task would be slow-going. Only Michael and Kathy, Teri and Ian, Andre and Damon, and Andrew and Dennis chose to complete the 'Wheels' task while all other teams finished 'Wings'.
5. Which team was eliminated in Leg 1?

Answer: Gina and Sylvia

After completing the Detour, teams were instructed to make their way to the first Pit Stop of the race, Hacienda San Gabriel de las Palmas. In order to do this, teams were given vans to travel the thirty mile distance. Ken and Gerard, who claimed the Fast Forward, were the first team to arrive, winning a Caribbean cruise vacation. Of the other racers, Flo and Zach were first to arrive followed by Aaron and Arianne. Being on the last bus, Gina and Sylvia were unable to make up ground, and although they completed the 'Wings' Detour task, they fell behind and became the first team eliminated from the race.
6. In Leg 2, teams competed through the entirety of the leg in Mexico.

Answer: True

Departing from the first Pit Stop at Hacienda San Gabriel de las Palmas in the late evening, teams were instructed to make their way to Teotihuacán using their own cars. Once they found the Avenue of the Dead, they needed to make their way to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun to receive their next clue. Of course, the Pyramid wouldn't be open until 7:00am, forcing teams to bunch up at the front gates. Once at the top, teams were told to head to head to Cancun, more than 1,000 miles away.
7. Which team took the Fast Forward in Leg 2?

Answer: Derek and Drew

For this Leg's Fast Forward, teams needed to go to the Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City and 'fly with the Voladores'. In order to do this task, teams needed to climb a tall pole and spin with a rope bound to their feet until they reached the bottom. After this, they could go directly to the Pit Stop. Derek and Drew, who placed second-to-last in the first Leg of the race, were the only team to claim the Fast Forward clue here to make up lost ground.
Meanwhile, the rest of the teams hopped onto buses and made their way to the city of Cancun to find a clue at the San Marino Marina.
8. In the 'Manpower' Detour task of Leg 2, what did teams have to use?

Answer: Kayaks

At the San Marino Marina, teams found their Detour clue prompting the choice between 'Manpower' and 'Horsepower'. In 'Manpower', teams had to hop into kayaks to find their clues in a relatively small area. In 'Horsepower', on the other hand, teams needed to hop onto a waverunner and find their clue in a much larger area. Michael and Kathy and Ken and Gerard completed 'Manpower' while the remaining teams finished the 'Horsepower' task.

After the Detour, teams needed to head to a specific beach club at which they could take a designated car and drive to a ferry station which would take them to Cozumel.
9. Who did not compete in the first Road Block of the race in Leg 2?

Answer: Talicia

Once at Cozumel, teams needed to locate Chankanaab Park to find their next clue, a Road Block (the first in the race). For this Road Block, teams needed to choose one member who would jump into a lagoon with dolphins and swim to the bottom to get the clue. Arianne, Michael, Zach, Heather, Gerard, John Vito, Damon, Ian, Andrew, and Tramel all completed this Road Block task, receiving the clues that would direct them to the second pit Stop of the race.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 2?

Answer: Tramel and Talicia

After the Road Block in Cozumel, teams were instructed to make their way to the race's second Pit Stop, the Diamante K Bungalows in Tulum, Mexico. Derek and Drew, who claimed the Fast Forward clue back in Mexico City, arrived in first place having been able to skip all tasks and head directly there.

They were followed a short time later by Aaron and Arianne, the first of the regular racers. In the end, Tramel and Talicia, who were behind for the majority of the leg, ended up being unable to gain ground and became the second team eliminated from the race.
