Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To which country did teams travel in Leg 7 departing from Marrakesh?

Answer: Germany

In the beginning of Leg 7, teams departed from the sixth Pit Stop, the Riad Catalina in Marrakesh, Morocco, and were instructed to fly from Morocco to Munich, Germany. Not all teams arrived in Germany on the same flight- there were numerous different options available for the participating teams. Once in Germany, teams needed to navigate the city to find Friedensengel, a statue within the city. Once here, teams would be given their clue by Kasperle, a German/Austrian puppet nearby. Teams were surprised to learn that for the duration of this leg of the race, they were only given a dollar at the start of the leg.
2. Which team claimed the Fast Forward clue in Leg 7?

Answer: Flo and Zach

Fast forward seeking teams didn't need to look too far. Once in Munich, the team participating needed to find the Eisbach River, and once there they needed to find a man surfing along a man-made current. Once they flagged down this surfer and brought him off the waves, they would receive their Fast Forward clue allowing them to skip all tasks and go directly to the Pit Stop. In this case, Flo and Zach were the team to claim the clue.
Meanwhile, the rest of the teams made their way to Innsbruck, Austria.
3. Both Detour options in Leg 7 were associated with Olympic events.

Answer: True

Hopping on trains from Munich to Innsbruck, teams arrived in Austria to find their next clue box at Annasäule, the Pillar of St. Anna. Once there, teams found the Detour task, a choice between 'Sled' and 'Skate'. In 'Sled', teams needed to find their way to the Olympic Bobsled Run and take a bobsled ride down the track to receive their clue, first-come-first-serve.

In 'Skate', teams needed to reach the speed skating rink and run a relay with Olympic speed skaters. Because the hours of operation of the events were in the morning, many of the teams were equal at this point. All participating teams completed the 'Sled' Detour task.
4. Which team member was first to complete the Road Block task of Leg 7?

Answer: Teri

After the Detour, teams needed to go to the Gondola Nordkette in Innsbruck where they would need to ascend into the mountains to find Nord Park. Teams would find their Road Block at Suttgarde Station at the top. For this Road Block, teams needed to choose one member to hop into a gondola, don safety gear, and descend from 230 feet to the ground to retrieve their clue.

This precarious task, performed halfway down the gondola line, was performed by Teri, Drew, Jill, Gerard. After the task, team members could run back to their teammate.
5. Which team was eliminated in Leg 7?

Answer: Andre and Damon

After the Road Block, teams made their way tot he race's seventh Pit Stop, a meadow beneath the shadow of the famous Neuschwanstein Castle in Fussen, Germany nearly seventy miles and a country away. Flo and Zach, who claimed the Fast Forward in Munich, were able to skip all tasks and head directly to the Pit Stop. Because of this, they placed first (and they won a set of Kodak Easyshare cameras...where do they keep getting these cameras!?).

They were followed by Derek and Drew shortly after. Andre and Damon, who fell behind during the entirety of the leg were the last to arrive and they were subsequently eliminated.

They returned the dollar that they received at the beginning of the leg.
6. In Leg 8, teams traveled to which European country?

Answer: Switzerland

Departing from Neuschwanstein Castle in Fussen, Germany, teams made their way to a farm just outside of Fussen. Once at this location, Augustinerhof Farm, teams needed to search for their next Route Info clue in a large pile of hay. This clue informed teams that they needed to make their way to Friedrichshafen and hitch a ride on a ferry to Romanshorn, Switzerland. Once there, teams needed to find their way to the Rheinfall, at which point their clue could be found overlooking this natural wonder.
7. The Detour task in Leg 8 occurred in which city?

Answer: Zurich

After visiting the Rheinfall in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, teams made their way thirty-two miles by train to Zurich, Switzerland, the country's largest city. Once there, they needed to find their way to the Lindenhof in the city where they would be directed underground to a bank vault.

Here, teams found the Detour, a choice between 'Count the Money' and 'Run the Numbers'. In 'Count the Money', teams needed to work to count the sum of coins and bills inside a large jar of Swiss money within the vault.

In 'Run the Numbers', teams needed to run around Zurich looking for three different locations which, when the numbers at these locations added up, would result in the same total. All five teams completed 'Run the Numbers'.
8. After completing the Detour, teams needed to unlock a vault containing their clue. How many digits were in the code that was the result of both Detour options?

Answer: Six

Once players either counted their money and received that total or run around Zurich to find the same number, the code (127850) could be inputted into the bank vaults in order for the teams to receive their clue. This clue, Route Info, instructed teams to head back to the train station and make their way to Lucerne, and then to the town of Grindelwald. Once there, teams needed to find a marked field near the train station which would contain their next clue box.
9. In the Road Block in Leg 8, what was used to shoot an apple off a mannequin's head?

Answer: Crossbow

Teams made their way by train more than one hundred and twenty miles to the town of Grindelwalk. Once in Grindelwald, teams found their next Road Block which required that one member of each team be selected to pick up and load a crossbow, then shoot an apple off the head of a mannequin to replicate the story of William Tell. Because of the train ride, all five teams went to the Road Block at the same time. Derek, John Vito, Zach, Ken, and Ian finished this Road Block task and took the next clue.
10. Which team was the last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 8?

Answer: John Vito and Jill

After the Road Block, teams were told to make their way on foot directly to the eighth Pit Stop, the Chalet Arnika in Grindelwald. Though only across the small town, many teams found difficulty climbing the steep roads and breathing the thin air. Nonetheless, first place went to Derek and drew who (surprise, surprise) won a set of Kodak Easyshare digital cameras. Bringing up the rear were John Vito and Jill who, unfortunately, could not complete the Road Block fast enough. Luckily though, Leg 8 was the first predetermined non-elimination leg of the race, and they were spared.
