Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first leg of "The Amazing Race 3", teams needed to make their way from Miami to Mexico to find what famous landmark?

Answer: The Angel of Independence

In Leg 1, teams departed from the starting line in the Florida Everglades and flew from Miami to Mexico City, one of the most heavily-populated cities in the world. Upon their arrival, teams located their first clue box in front of the Angel of Independence statue and continued to route markers at Zócalo (with a man named Pablo), and the Hotel de Cortes, where they signed up for a charter bus to a mystery destination. Because of ongoing issues with the United States/Mexico border, season three of "The Amazing Race" was the only season of the American version of the show to visit Mexico in its first twenty seasons.
2. In Leg 2 in Mexico, teams visited the site of Teotihuacan and ascended to the top of which of these landmarks?

Answer: Pyramid of the Sun

In Leg 2, teams departed from their first Pit Stop at Hacienda San Gabriel de las Palmas (in Puente de Ixtla) and drove hundreds of miles through Mexico to the archaeological site of Teotihuacan. Upon their arrival, teams needed to climb up the two hundred forty steps along the side of the pyramid to find their clue box resting on top.

This visit was followed by a trip back to Mexico City where teams needed to take 24-hour-long bus rides from Mexico's capital to Cancun in the southeastern province of Quintana Roo-- 1,700 kilometers away.

By the time this second leg of the race came to a close, team members had a swim with dolphins in the first Road Block and two teams had been eliminated (Gina and Sylvia in Leg 1 and Tramel and Talicia in Leg 2).
3. Dunnottar Castle, the third Pit Stop of the race, was visited by teams in which country?

Answer: Scotland

In Leg 3, teams departed from Mexico and Central America and made their way across the Atlantic to the UK, landing in London (to visit Scudamore's in Cambridge, UK), and then taking buses across the border into Scotland. Upon their arrival, teams found a Road Block task dedicated to the highland games in Stonehaven (near Aberdeen) before racing on foot to the third Pit Stop, Dunnottar Castle. Because they took too late a flight, not even the Fast Forward clue was able to save Dennis and Andrew from elimination.

They arrived much later than the other teams despite completing a military (tank-driving) task near London and riding a limo directly to the Pit Stop. They became the third team eliminated.
4. The Torre de Belem in Portugal was visited in Leg 4. Was it the site of the soccer-themed Road Block?

Answer: No

In Leg 4, teams needed to fly from Scotland to Porto, Portugal to complete their Detour task involving the delivery of wine from the Calem Port Lodge. After this Detour, teams took a train to the capital city of Lisbon and stopped off for a Road Block task at the Estádio do Restelo.

Here, one member of each team needed to block a penalty shot from a teen soccer player before teams could run to the next Pit Stop, a mile and a half away at the Torre de Belem on the water. Heather and Eve unwittingly decided to take a cab, thus arriving first but misreading their clue in the process.

While their penalty only lasted approximately thirty minutes, all of the teams were close enough together to be able to check in before their timer ran out. They became the fourth team eliminated from the race and the first team in any "Amazing Race" to be ousted by a non-voluntary penalty.
5. Teams only visited one African nation in "The Amazing Race 3". The Hassan II Mosque was visited by teams in the beginning of Leg 6, but in what country?

Answer: Morocco

In Leg 5, teams progressed to the westernmost point of continental Europe (in Cabo da Roca) before driving to Spain and taking a ferry across the sea to Morocco. Arriving in Tangiers, teams then took charter buses to Fez to immerse themselves in local culture and marketplaces.

This leg ended in Fez's Borj Nord with the elimination of Michael and Kathy who were unable to recover after fatal car troubles. In Leg 6, teams began the leg by visiting the massive Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca and proceeded to complete additional tasks after a train ride to Marrakech.

These included a carpet-searching Fast Forward completed by Teri and Ian, a Detour in the desert, and a Road Block selling escargot in a Moroccan market. At the sixth Pit Stop, the Riad Catalina in Marrakech, Aaron and Arianne were eliminated.
6. Which team was eliminated at Neuschwanstein Castle in Leg 7?

Answer: Andre and Damon

In Leg 7, teams needed to fly from Morocco to Germany (which as not an easy task), then take a train from Germany to Austria for the majority of the leg. While Flo and Zach forged ahead by taking the Fast Forward task in Munich, the rest of the teams took a bobsled ride and completed a Road Block descending from a cable car.

The leg ended in a meadow beneath Neuschwanstein Castle in Fussen, Germany. Andre and Damon, who were unable to secure an earlier flight, were instructed to travel straight to the Pit Stop upon reaching Innsbruck, Austria.

They became the seventh eliminated team.
7. Before departing from Switzerland in Leg 10, teams stopped at the Jet d'Eau, a fountain resting on which body of water?

Answer: Lake Geneva

In the very beginning of Leg 10, teams departed from a Pit Stop in Switzerland and took taxis to the Jet d'Eau, a large fountain in Geneva where they received a clue instructing them to fly to Malaysia. This was the teams' final clue in Switzerland after two legs in the Alps.

Some teams traveled through the Swiss countryside performing bungee jumps, eating giant wheels of cheese, firing crossbows, and constructing and riding bikes. Although two Pit Stops were held in Switzerland, none of the five remaining teams were eliminated there; John Vito and Jill and Zach and Flo placed last (respectively) but both teams were saved by non-elimination rounds.
8. Outside the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia (in Leg 10), teams needed to use which product?

Answer: A Kodak digital camera

Teams began Leg 10 of the race by flying to Kuala Lampur, Malaysia to complete a task in front of the Petronas Twin Towers, then the tallest buildings in Asia. After using a Kodak digital camera to take a picture, teams needed to have their photos developed at a local shopping center to receive a clue sending them several hundred miles, by train, to Singapore.

The rest of the leg was completed in this small, yet densely-populated nation. Here, teams completed several wet tasks (including swimming with manatees and running through the Fountain of Wealth) before going to the tenth Pit Stop.

Here, John Vito and Jill were eliminated.
9. Which team did not visit Vietnam's Imperial City in Hue in Leg 12?

Answer: Derek and Drew

Leg 11 brought teams to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for a series of tasks heading through rural Vietnam and back again. In a surprising twist, Derek and Drew (amongst others) were unable to locate the starting point for the Road Block task, inadvertently finding the eleventh Pit Stop first instead.

As a result, they fell to last place, becoming the final eliminated team. As such they did not continue through Vietnam in Leg 12. Leg 12 took teams on an extensive trip across Vietnam to visit the Imperial City and the central regions of the country.

This would be the penultimate leg of the race containing only the final three teams.
10. At their final destination, the remaining three teams visited this fountain in which American city before heading to the Finish Line?

Answer: Seattle

In the final leg of the race, the final three teams flew from Vietnam to Hawaii to complete a series of tasks, and then onward to their final destination city: Seattle. Arriving at this coastal locale, the teams embarked on a lengthy footrace through the city from Kerry Park to the International Fountain at Seattle Center (and the Space Needle).

This culminated with a Road Block task at Lincoln Park before teams took their taxis tot he Finish Line at Gas Works Park. Here, Zach and Flo became the winners of "The Amazing Race 3", beating Teri and Ian by only two minutes.
