Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In their first task, the two teams used which of the following to promote Sam's Club?

Answer: Goodyear Blimps

Before commencing their first tasks, the candidates met on a private airport runway where Trump had everyone introduce themselves. He chose Tarek and Allie to become project managers and they were required to pick teams schoolyard-style. When teams headed into their task, they were told that they would combine aviation and advertising. Both needed to use a Goodyear Blimp to promote Sam's Club, either garnering new memberships or upgrading existing ones. Allie's team, Synergy, won by three memberships by handing out freebies, manicures, and massages, while Tarek's team, Gold Rush, failed to meet the same number.

In the boardroom, Trump nearly fired Tarek for his poor decisions during the task but he was spared when Summer decided to stand in his defense-- she was fired instead.
2. The second task of the competition featured the marketing of the Gillette Fusion razor. What keyword did the Gold Rush team use, pushing them to victory?

Answer: Closer

Heading into task two, teams were required to hit the streets with an effective campaign for Gillette Fusion razors involving text messages-- the more people they could get to text their keyword to a specific phone number, the closer they'd be to winning. Gold Rush won using the word 'Closer' (for a closer shave) with 683 messages while Synergy failed the task, taking in only 458 messages with 'Blade5', partly because they started at a substantially later time and dressed poorly for the occasion. Because the task was such a failure, Trump fired two people in the boardroom, the first being Stacy, who's demeanor in the boardroom and decision to hold the event in a poor location sealed her fate, and the second being project manager Pepi for failing the task.
3. On week three, two different candidates did not participate in the task. Why was this?

Answer: They were observing a religious holiday

Week three brought the teams to General Motors where they needed to create corporate retreats from the ground up to promote the Chevy Tahoe to salespeople. Synergy, led by Andrea, won the task by presenting their customers with a retreat framed around different outdoor sports, building around the rugged outdoor style of the vehicle. Gold Rush failed the task due to poor concepts including a horse and buggy ride. Project manager Theresa was fired on account of this and poor boardroom decisions. Lee and Dan opted not to participate in the task, instead deciding to celebrate Rosh Hashannah. Donald Trump allowed this; his adviser, George Ross, was absent for the same reason. Lee later observed Yom Kippur during week six.
4. In week five, teams created ads for which of these types of companies?

Answer: A cruise line

For week five, teams were told to visit the Norwegian Jewel, a cruise ship docked in New York City. When they arrived they discovered that they needed to create a half-minute advertisement promoting the company and that all video required for the ad needed to be shot before the boat embarked on its next cruise that afternoon. Synergy won the task and received an interesting prize-- they got to take $30,000-worth of diamonds from the Brinks Vault. Gold Rush failed to attract executives; their video was less interesting to the company heads and, unlike Synergy's video, it didn't include a voice-over. Dan was fired for a lack of leadership and, like other earlier project managers, a failure to bring relevant people back to the boardroom.
5. In week six, Donald Trump claimed that his favourite burgers came from which restaurant, also the sponsor for the task completed by the remaining candidates?

Answer: Arby's

In week six, both teams were required to create a jingle promoting the new Chicken Naturals line-up at Arby's. Because the restaurant chain planned to branch out from their tendency to be known for steak burgers, it was important that the teams make note of the broad menu items being added to the menu. Synergy won the task, mainly because Gold Rush failed to feature the new Chicken Naturals.

They were rewarded with a six-course truffle-inspired meal, possibly the most expensive they would ever eat...each meal cost approximately $4,000.

It was at this point that Trump said it was second only to Arby's. Of course. In the boardroom, Bryce was fired because he neglected to return to the boardroom with those responsible for the failing jingle and because he was nearly a half-hour late for their original meeting with the Arby's executives.
6. Selling pizza-sandwich hybrids for 7-Eleven in week 8, it was believed that team Gold Rush lost the task for which of these reasons?

Answer: Too high a price-point

Going into week eight, the remaining candidates needed to work for 7-Eleven, taking a new sandwich product known as the P'Eatzza, featuring it, and selling it as much as possible to make the highest increase in sales. Synergy walked away with another victory-- they had an increase of nearly 1,000% when all was said and done while Gold Rush only had 600%.

This was attributed to a high price-point which, if they'd asked the executives, would have been avoided; Synergy sold theirs at half the price. Leslie, the project manager, was fired leaving nine in the competition.
7. In week ten, the teams worked in the haircare industry to open new franchise locations. How many people were eliminated in this task?

Answer: Two

In the tenth week of the competition, Synergy and Gold Rush made their way to Long Island to help open new Hair Cuttery franchise locations. This included marketing the opening day, organizing the staff, and setting up their respective salons. Charmaine lost the task, sending Gold Rush to the boardroom where they were criticized for all-around inadequacy; on the day of the opening, the project manager opted to get a haircut instead of promoting.

Not only was Charmaine fired for a fairly conclusive loss, but Tarek ended up getting let go for his poor track record.

This was the second of three double eliminations of the season.
8. For their penultimate task as teams in week twelve, the remaining five candidates promoted which of these products at a Wal-Mart location?

Answer: Xbox 360

For their second-to-last task as teams, Gold Rush found victory in week twelve, promoting the new Xbox 360 video game console for Microsoft using a display and marketing tactics. Sean, leading, ended up not wasting his time constructing his display instead deciding to have a third-party make the unit.

This allowed Gold Rush to take the win and the reward, voice roles in the animated film "Over the Hedge". Synergy lost the task with Tammy leading the group. She was fired for her decision not to include enough product placement in the team's self-built display.

After her firing, only four candidates remained.
9. The final four candidates were not subjected to one-on-one interviews with high-ranking executives.

Answer: True

Rather than have a customary series of interviews with CEOs of other major companies, the final four headed into their final task as teams in week thirteen. For this challenge, both teams needed to create a new line of uniforms for the workers at Embassy Suites Hotels and organize a runway show to exhibit their clothing. Synergy lost the task because more than 80% of employees enjoyed the outfits created by Gold Rush instead.

Although Allie was the project manager, both she and Roxanne ended up getting eliminated leaving only Lee and Sean in the game. Because the fourteenth week, normally reserved for the interviews, was not necessary, it did not occur.
10. What candidate won the apprenticeship offered by Donald Trump in this fifth season of "The Apprentice"?

Answer: Sean

In the final task, Lee ran Gold Rush with Lenny, Pepi, and Roxanne as his employees. His challenge was to head to Chelsea Pier to organize and run a charity hockey game in support of the Leary Firefighters Foundation. Sean ran Synergy, hosting a concert for the Barenaked Ladies in Trump's Atlantic City casino, Trump Taj Mahal.

He took Tammy, Andrea, and Tarek onto his team and needed to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). When push came to shove, Trump chose Sean as his fifth Apprentice, giving him the chance to run the new Trump International Hotel in SoHo. Several months after the show ended, Trump also hired Lee (though not as *the* Apprentice) to work as a high-ranking executive with Trump Mortgage.
