Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the legend of 'The Dead Man's Hand', who is said to have been holding the cards when they were shot and killed?

Answer: Wild Bill Hickok

Wild Bill Hickok, was born James Butler Hickok on May 27, 1837 in Troy Grove, Illinois. He was killed in Deadwood, Dakota Territory in 1876. He was playing a game of poker at Sweeney's Silver Dollar Saloon when he was gunned down by Jack McCall. McCall believed that Hickok had killed his brother Lew, back in Kansas, and was out for revenge.

The dead man's hand are the cards Hickok was holding when McCall shot him in his head. Calamity Jane was Hickok's girlfriend at the time. It has been said the two were married, although there is no record of a ceremony to back up the claim.
2. Who originally owned the cards?

Answer: John Jax

John Jax originally owned the cards. When Jax went to see him in the desert he was clutching the only card he still owned. Lady Jane told Jax that John had lost his will to live. John thought of the cards as his "luck" and was slowly dieing without them.
3. The dead man's hand included five cards, aces and eights in both clubs and spades were four of them. What was the fifth card?

Answer: Jack of diamonds

The fifth card was the Jack of diamonds, well at least on "GH" anyway. In reality the fifth card is uncertain. There are four theories as to what the fifth card may be. The five of diamond, which is supposedly on display in Deadwood, the nine of diamonds, also in Deadwood, the Queen of clubs, on display at Ripley's Believe it or Not, and the King of spades, used in the 1936 movie "The Plainsman".
4. Jax found out Sam's last name was McCall by looking at her driver's license.

Answer: True

Jax did indeed look at Sam's driver's license to find out her last name. She later told him that Jack McCall, the man who shot Hickok, was her great grandfather. She claimed that her family had been having bad luck ever since that fateful day and she wanted the cards to destroy them.
5. Who showed up at the masquerade ball and performed magic tricks with the cards, later inviting certain individuals to an auction?

Answer: Luke

6. After the auction everyone was suddenly overcome by gas that was being pumped into the club. Someone snuck in and stole the cards, who was this person?

Answer: Chase

7. Who did Dillon steal the cards from?

Answer: AJ

Dillon stole the cards from AJ at the request of his mother, Tracy. AJ had originally stolen the cards from John Jax. Tracy told Dillon that if he stole the cards for her, he would not have to attend the Military Academy Edward was planning on sending him to.
8. Skye sabatoged the car Jax and Sam were using to take the cards back to John.

Answer: False

Sam sabatoged the car not Skye. Sam wanted to use the cards to win some money at a casino before returning the cards to John. She was on a winning streak when Jax set out to prove that the cards were not lucky. Instead of proving his point he won the grand prize on a slot machine. Once Jax got the car up and running he made it to the hospital just as John died.
9. Feeling guilty about John's death, Sam wrote a letter to Jax and sat it on his pillow along with the cards. Tracy came in, stole the cards and later tried to become partners with Jax. What kind of business did Tracy want Jax to invest in?

Answer: casino

Tracy wanted Jax to invest in a casino with her. She wanted to display the dead man's hand and attract clientele from all around the world.
10. Who gave the cards to a homeless man?

Answer: Sam

Jax accused Sam of trying to con him and turned the cards over to her in disgust. She gave them to a homeless man who turned out to be Luke in a disguise.
