River Song's first appearance was in the duel episode storyline "Silence in the Library"/"Forest of the Dead" with David Tennant. She appeared at least once in each of Matt Smith's seasons, and one special in Peter Capaldi's reign, making her one of the companions that have been in the most amount of seasons (4, 5, 6, 7, and 10).

David Tennant started his tenure officially during the 2005 Christmas Special "The Christmas Invasion" and played the character regularly until January 2010 in the episode "The End of Time". Although his official tenure ended, Tennant still appeared in specials.

Captain Jack Harness made his first appearance in the season one episode "The Empty Child" and its continuation "The Doctor Dances". From the time of his introduction until the end of the season, Jack appeared in all episodes. He returned in the spin-off "Torchwood" that started in 2006 and lasted until 2011. Jack returned to the main series in 2007 in "Utopia" (which coincided with the end of "Torchwoood" season 1 finale), with the Doctor and Martha and stayed through the season finale where he returns to his team at Torchwood.

Matt Smith made his first appearance in the ending of the episode "The End of Time" but his first full episode wasn't until "The Eleventh Hour" in April 2010. His last episode as the Doctor was "The Time of the Doctor" Christmas 2013.

Amelia "Amy" Pond made her first appearance in "The Eleventh Hour" alongside Matt Smith in April 2010. She is first introduced as a seven year old who asks Santa (on Easter) to send her someone to fix the crack in her wall. The Doctor shortly thereafter crash lands in the TARDIS. Needing to fix something in the damaged TARDIS, the Doctor leaves and returns, at first believing it had been six months but later finding out from an angry Amy that it had been 12 years. After defeating the latest alien threat, the Doctor leaves once again to "run in" the TARDIS, appearing another two years later, making Amy 21 when she finally travels with the Doctor. Her final episode as a companion is "The Angels Take Manhattan" in September 2012 where she dies via old age as a Weeping Angel transports both her and Rory into the past. She also makes an appearance in Matt Smith's final episode to wish him farewell just before his regeneration.

Amy Pond was not the first role Karen Gillan played in the show. She played a soothsayer in the season four episode "Fires of Pompeii".

Answer: Arthur Darvill

Rory Williams is the husband of Amy Pond. He makes his first appearance in April 2010 in "The Eleventh Hour" along with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. However, he doesn't travel with the Doctor until "The Vampires of Venice" in May 2010. He gets erased from time for three episodes before reappearing in "The Pandorica Opens" as an Auton where he has to wait 2000 years protecting Amy who is inside (the Doctor later erases this timeline thus Rory is human), where he and Amy then get married.

He appears in all episodes up to and including "The Angels Take Manhattan" in September 2012 where he shares the same fate as his wife of being thrust back in time by a Weeping Angel.

Martha Jones makes her first appearance in "Smith and Jones" in March 2007 as a doctor who is still in her residency. After the hospital she and the Doctor are inside is taken from and then returned to Earth, the Doctor offers a "thank you" one time trip that turns into many more. She leaves at the end of season three "The Last of the Time Lords" saying that she must move on from him and that she had her family to look after. She joins UNIT as a doctor and appears in three season four episodes as well as the last of the 2008-2010 specials, being one of the old companions the Doctor visits prior to his regeneration where he sees her fighting off a Sontaran with her husband Mickey Smith.

Freema Agyeman did not first appear as Martha Jones, but as her "cousin Adeola Oshodi" in the season two finale.

Answer: Pearl Mackie

Bill Potts first appears as a cook at a university that the Doctor is teaching at and he begins tutoring her. After an alien encounter, she ends up traveling with him for the remainder of the season and the following Christmas Special. In the finale of the season, however, she is killed by a Cyberman and subsequently turned into one but retains her humanity.

After a battle that leaves the Doctor near death, a girl she had fallen in love with who had been turned into an alien herself returns to offer Bill an exploration of the universe.

She returns as a living avatar of Bill's memories where she helps the Doctor accept his need to regenerate.

Answer: Christopher Eccleston

The 9th Doctor is the first Doctor of the revived series. Christopher only played the character from March 2005 to June 2005, when David Tennant took the role over. His reasons for leaving the role have been debatable. One source saying it was because he was afraid of being typecast, but was later proven incorrect.
- On June 11, 2005, when asked about his enjoyment of the role he said "Mixed, but that's a long story."
- On October 4, 2005 it was said that Eccleston had been "overworked" by the BBC, and had left the role because he was "exhausted".
- In a 2010 interview, Eccleston said that he left the show because he "didn't enjoy the environment and the culture that the cast and crew had to work in", but that he was proud of having played the role.

Answer: Peter Capaldi

Peter Capaldi made his first official appearance as the Doctor at the end of the episode "The Time of the Doctor" Christmas 2013. However this was not his first appearance, or even his second. Like Karen Gillan, Peter played in the episode "Fires of Pompeii", where he played a marble sculptor. He also appeared very briefly in "The Day of the Doctor" as just a pair of eyes as the numerous versions of the Doctor flew around Gallifrey in their TARDISes. Capaldi's tenure ended in "Twice Upon a Time" Christmas 2017.
