Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This lady was a love interest for part of her tenure on the show. Who played Dr. Cleo Finch?

Answer: Michael Michele

While all the others listed did have roles in the show, it was Michael Michele who played this role from seasons six through eight. In addition to her role as pediatric physician Finch, she also played the love interest of Dr. Peter Benton (Eriq La Salle).

She was written off the show after season eight, as was La Salle, as they both moved on to a different city to work at a new hospital with work hours more conducive to a family life. Michele's other notable roles have been on television, in shows such as "Homicide: Life on the Street", and "New York Undercover".

She also had a role in the film "Ali" which was the portrayal of champion boxer Muhammad Ali.
2. This heartthrob played the part of Dr. Tony Gates for the final stages of the series, after having another career earlier in the series. Who is this?

Answer: John Stamos

While all the others listed were guests on the show at one time or another, it was Stamos of course, who played this role during the final three seasons of the show. His character was originally an EMS paramedic who became an intern, first appearing in season twelve.

He became a regular ER staff doctor starting in season thirteen. He also had a love interest in the show, Nurse Samantha Taggart, played by regular cast member Linda Cardellini. Stamos started in soap operas in the early 1980s with appearances in "General Hospital".

He is best known for his eight year stint on the sitcom "Full House". Stamos is also an accomplished musician, and occasionally will make an appearance with the legendary group, The Beach Boys.
3. Abby Lockhart was an OBGYN nurse when she first appeared on the show. She became a doctor later in the show and became one of the mainstays of the series. Who played this character?

Answer: Maura Tierney

While all of the actresses mentioned appeared on the show, it was Tierney who spent ten seasons on the show from seasons six through fifteen. Abby moved from OBGYN to the ER and became the chief nurse of the ER, and finally got her medical license and became full fledged doctor at the end of season ten.

She was written off the series in the final season, moving to Boston to be with her husband who had found a position there, and her toddler son. Tierney's other credits include a five season stint on the television series "NewsRadio", as well as feature film appearances in "Primal Fear" (starring Richard Gere), "Liar, Liar" (with Jim Carrey), and "Insomnia" (with Al Pacino and Robin Williams).
4. This handsome actor spent ten seasons portraying Dr. Luca Kovac. Who is this good looking import?

Answer: Goran Visnijic

All the actors mentioned appeared as guests on the show, but it was Visnijic of course, who spent ten seasons in the ER, spanning seasons six through fifteen. He moved up the ranks, first being appointed to the position of Attending Physician, and then to Chief of Emergency Medicine.

He was the love interest of Nurse/Dr. Abby Lockhart, eventually marrying her after they lived together for a while. They also had a son named Joe. After developing marital problems, they separated for a while, and Visnijic eventually goes to Boston to find a job.

This is how he is written off the show, followed by his wife "Abby Lockhart", as they leave to start their new life together after reconciling. "ER" was Visnijic's biggest American role, although he has starred in a number of films and television shows in his native country of Croatia.
5. One of the final series regulars, this young man played Dr. Archie Morris. Who is this actor?

Answer: Scott Grimes

Scott Grimes commendably played the role for the final four seasons of the show. Archie provided some of the lighter moments of the show, from his beginnings as a resident during season ten, and throughout his tenure in the ER, being appointed as Chief Resident during season eleven and subsequently an Attending Physician later in the series. Grimes, in his younger days, appeared as a semi-regular on the sitcom "Who's The Boss?" as the love interest of the character played by Alyssa Milano.

He also played the bestfriend to Scott Wolf's character on "Party of Five".
6. This lady helped close the series as a regular for the final six seasons. Who played Dr. Neela Rasgotra?

Answer: Parminder Nagra

Originally playing a medical student, Nagra worked her way into the fabric of the show in season ten, and became an integral part of the show as "Dr. Rasgotra" through its season fifteen conclusion, first in the ER, and then as a surgical resident. In an episode near the end of season 15, she leaves the ER to take a position at another hospital. Nagra is of Indian descent, but is from Great Britain.

Her breakthrough role was in the film "Bend It Like Beckham".
7. This anti-authority figure became the authority during his tenure in the ER. Which actor played the role of Dr. Greg Pratt?

Answer: Mekhi Phifer

Phifer played the role of Dr. Greg Pratt from the beginning of season nine until the beginning of the final season, when he was written off the show after succumbing to his injuries and passing away after an ambulance explosion at the end of season fourteen. Pratt came to the ER as a doctor resentful of authority, and a doctor who sometimes wanted to show how smart he was by taking on procedures that he was either incapable of unqualified to do, which led to clashes among him and the staff.

He learned over the years and eventually became an Attending Physician, a position he kept until his character's untimely death. Phifer is known for his roles in such films as "Tuskegee Airmen", "Clockers", "Soul Food", and "8 Mile".

He has also appeared as a guest star on a number of television shows.
8. This lady had the longest tenure of any of the major characters on "ER". Which lady played the role of Dr. Kerry Weaver?

Answer: Laura Innes

Kerry Weaver first appeared as a regular cast member in season three of the show and was written off the show after season thirteen. Weaver ascended the ranks in the ER, eventually becoming Chief of Emergency Medicine, despite her physical disability (she walked with a limp and used a cane/crutch).

She also came out of the closet so to speak, in season seven, after she had a lesbian affair with a co-worker. None of this affected her work though, as she was an astute medical professional. She was written off the series at the end of season thirteen, after taking a position of Chief Medical Correspondent at a Miami television station.

She did appear in flashbacks during the final season of the show, and made an appearance in the final episode of the series.

Innes' career began in the late 1980s with various television guest appearances, and she did have a regular role in the series "Wings", playing a promiscuous ex-wife. Since departing the show, Innes has had film roles in "Deep Impact", and "Can't Stop Dancing".
9. Another veteran of the show, who started in the first season and grew into a major role with the show. His tenure lasted eleven seasons. Who played Dr. John Carter?

Answer: Noah Wyle

Dr. John Carter started in season one as a third year medical student and grew into the role of a skilled compassionate physician over the years. He came from a very wealthy family, and agreed to work his first year for free after switching from surgery to emergency medicine.

His family also did not support him in his chosen profession, and this created an on going storyline over the years. From seasons eight through eleven, Carter became the main focus of the show and eventually followed a story line in which he decided to do some time in Africa to bring medical help to that region.

This also laid the foundation for his exit from the show after season eleven, as he moved to Africa to practice medicine, and be with his girlfriend, whom he had met in his initial trip there. Wyle appeared in a total of 245 episodes of the show. Wyle did reprise his role as Dr. John Carter for a number of episodes in the final season of the show.

He has also appeared in several feature films beginning with a minor role in "A Few Good Men" in 1992.

He also appeared in "Swing Kids", "The Pirates of Silicon Valley", and "Enough" (with Jennifer Lopez).
10. This guy was an original cast member and starred in the first five seasons of the show, then left to further his movie career. Who was Dr. Doug Ross?

Answer: George Clooney

Dr. Doug Ross was an ER pediatrician for five years. He was strictly anti-establishment, with numerous instances of not playing by the rules. His recklessness finally caught up with him after five years, when he resigned, rather than be fired for his involvement in the death of a patient. He was also followed by his lover and mother of his children "Nurse Carol Hathaway" (Julianna Margulies). Dr. Ross moved to Seattle, and Carol followed him shortly thereafter (after one more year on the show). Clooney, of course, has gone on to major motion picture stardom with such films as "Ocean's Eleven" as well as the two sequels, also "Batman and Robin", "Three Kings", "The Perfect Storm", "O Brother Where Art Thou", "Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind", (his directorial debut), "Solaris", "Good Night And Good Luck", "Syriana", and "Michael Clayton". Pretty good resume. Clooney appeared in one episode during the show's final season.
