"The Extras" - Maggie Jacobs Trivia Quiz

Actor Ashley Jensen is from Scotland, so Maggie's Scottish accent comes naturally. While Maggie doesn't talk much about her upbringing, in one scene we hear a long message left on her answering machine from her parents, who are worried that they'll have to clean out her old bedroom so she can move in; they don't have much confidence in Maggie's acting career.

Maggie and her friend Andy, like most extras on movie sets, have a lot of downtime, and they fill these periods with useless blather. Andy can tell there is something amiss in Maggie's relationship, and, when she blurts out that her boyfriend likes phone sex and she doesn't know what to say to him, Kate Winslet overhears and jumps in with some startlingly precise advice.

Unfortunately, Maggie's boyfriend finds out and, angry that Maggie revealed to others what he thought was private, he breaks up with her.

Although Maggie thought the man was handsome and flirted with him in the production office, when they meet at a party, Andy points out the man's orthopedic shoe and limp. Maggie admits to being shallow and while she tries to cover it up, she shows her true colors to the man, who walks out.

Answer: "He reads the big papers."

Maggie tells Andy that the bloke is an intellectual because he reads the big papers, whereas she confuses "Christopher Columbus" with "Colombo," the television detective. With Andy's encouragement, Maggie approaches the man and they go out on a date. He turns out to be a major jerk so that is that. Another romantic disappointment for poor Maggie.

The young man Maggie dates is very polite and clearly kind, but Maggie is over-aware of their racial differences and keeps saying off-putting things by accident, and even has a racist toy in her doll collection which she unsuccessfully tries to hide from him. It only gets worse from there and there is no second date.

Orlando Bloom at first doesn't believe Maggie doesn't think he's handsome, and he gets so annoyed, he insists that he kiss her to change her mind. Maggie shrugs him off and says that Johnny Depp is more her style.

When Maggie arrives at Lizzie's house for Lizzie's birthday celebration, Maggie is horrified to see that all of Lizzie's friends are as old or older than her parents, and that Lizzie is overly attached to her father, who has forced Lizzie to pursue a career in entertainment she's not particularly suited for. Maggie tells Lizzie what she thinks, and then Lizzie tells her father....and Maggie is thrown out of the party.

They won't even let her take a snack with her for the tube home.

Daniel Radcliffe, from the "Harry Potter" films, plays a randy teenage version of himself in this episode as he hits on Maggie and really any woman in sight. Maggie is not impressed but treats the boy kindly.

Darren had an unfortunate experience with his W.C. and Maggie, probably feeling a bit nauseous as well as turned off, fled. Before that, it had seemed they might have been a promising couple, but it was not to be.
