Following Dorothy, Blanche and Sophia's mundane chatter about food, Rose snaps them all back to reality when she reveals that she has lost her job, due to the closure of the grief counselling centre. While Dorothy and Blanche express their concern, kind-hearted Rose insists "I'm fine! Don't worry about me, it's all those other people".

Even Sophia is involved in fielding calls from those wishing to speak to Rose, and with so many messages being left, Sophia begs Rose to tell her callers not to call during her favourite soap opera, "The Young and the Restless".

Early on in this episode Dorothy is ecstatic to receive a telephone message from an old high school crush of hers named Barry Glick. When Sophia asks whether or not she's going to see him, Dorothy responds with "See him? If he's within fifty pounds of where he used to be I'm going to marry him".

However Dorothy is eventually brought back down to earth with a bang when she discovers that Barry Glick is now gay.

Having cheered up Rose, rather than going back to bed the girls enjoy a late-night feast in the kitchen. During this, Dorothy reveals that it was her ex-husband Stanley who prevented her from getting together with Barry Glick during her high school years.

She explains to the girls that Stanley told her "he was being shipped off to Korea and would probably die" and it would mean so much to him if Dorothy slept with him, which she then did. She then adds "that was my part of the war effort".

Near the end of the episode, one of Rose's ex-clients (Milton) turns up at the house again, though this time he is there to see Blanche, not Rose. He also seems to have perked up considerably, flattering Blanche frequently, before arranging to take her out on a date that night.

When Blanche checks that Rose has no romantic interest in her ex-client Milton, she is mortified to learn that he only likes fat women. The reason for this is that Blanche has already agreed to go on a date with him, and has also spent most of the episode trying to lose weight. Needless to say, Blanche ends the episode with a sour expression on her face, all too aware that this must mean that Milton sees her as overweight.

Having searched for a new job throughout this particular episode, Rose is thrilled with her new position at the Fountain Rock coffee house. However Dorothy and Blanche are not quite as enthusiastic initially, for as Blanche points out, it's "gritty, grimy, gruelling work".
