At the very beginning of this episode, following a successful dinner party thrown by the girls, Blanche comes out with this gem as she ties an apron around her waist and prepares to clean up. Though the ever snarky Dorothy promptly retorts with "What mirror do you use?" the thick-skinned Blanche merely ignores her. Though thrown by the entire household, the party's food was cooked by Sophia alone.

Answer: Herring

Having single-handedly prepared all of the delicious delicacies for the girls' dinner party, Sophia takes a well-deserved break, leaving the others to "do the dishes". As she takes a seat at the kitchen table, she and Rose begin the conversation detailed in the question. Hilariously. Rose's response to Sophia's quip, "What do you know? A thousand ways to make herring", is "Well, not a thousand, but a lot".

Answer: Belch

Early on in this episode, Sophia is found sitting on the couch rubbing her chest. When asked whether she feels pain she insists "If it was pain I'd call it pain - I have a bubble", which does nothing to quell Dorothy's fears. The latter then questions what a bubble is, which leads to Rose explaining that a "bubble is something that just sits there and presses until it's chased away by a you-know-what".

When pressed to clarify what this "you-know-what" is, Rose eventually whispers "a big belch", which leads Dorothy to come out with the quotation mentioned in the question.

Sophia's bubble very quickly becomes painful, prompting Dorothy to insist that her mother lies down while Blanche phones for the doctor. Frightened, Sophia worries that she is having a heart attack, yet even under stress the quips keep coming. When Dorothy asks her why she thinks that it is a heart attack that she's having, Sophia responds with "I'm eighty years old and I've got Pavarotti sitting on my chest. Odds are it's a heart attack".

Answer: Yes

Afraid that she is really dying, Sophia launches into an emotional speech. Though it still has plenty of her characteristic humour, she reveals to Dorothy that she has always been her favourite child. She also states that Dorothy should not allow a particular aunt to come to Sophia's funeral, adding "It's my death - she'll make it her moment".

Answer: Living in Minnesota

This priceless quote of Blanche's is from the middle of the episode, while she and Rose are making a pot of coffee in the kitchen. When Blanche infers that Sophia could very well be having a heart attack due to her age, Rose rushes to disprove her by mentioning her own grandparents, who lived until "their nineties".

This then leads to Blanche equating cryogenics to living in Minnesota. Blanche also adds that she'd move there "in a shot" if "only they had men there", as freezing slows down the aging process. Rose's comment that "We have men in Minnesota" is then rebuffed by Blanche's "Farmers Rose, farmers".

Answer: It is full of men

While still in the kitchen making coffee with Rose, Blanche reveals her desire to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery as it is full of men. Rose replies to this with "But they're all dead", and Blanche fires back bleakly, "So are the men I date".

Answer: Charlie had a heart attack while they were having sexual intercourse

As Sophia rests her eyes while waiting for medics to arrive, Rose reveals to Dorothy that her dead husband's heart attack occurred while they were having sex. Rose also reveals that Charlie asked her to dress him before the paramedics arrived, but passed away moments later. Regardless, Rose made sure that her Charlie was all dressed and decent before the paramedics arrived at her house.

Answer: An orphan

While searching for her mother's rosary, Dorothy reveals to Blanche that she will be an orphan if Sophia dies. Shaking her head, Dorothy asks "Can you believe it? I'm over fifty years old and I'll still feel like an orphan". She then adds, "It doesn't matter. You lose a parent, you might as well be six.

It's scary." Dorothy also contemplates her own mortality by acknowledging that the death of a parent "pushes you right up to the head of the line".

Answer: A gallbladder attack brought on by overeating

When the doctor finally arrives at the end of this episode, he asks what Sophia has had to eat during the day. Though she claims not to have eaten at all, the other three girls promptly list the numerous things they have actually seen her consume during the day.

This then causes the doctor to scold Sophia, before adding that her pain is actually a gallbladder attack that has been triggered by her excessive food intake.
