After her pregnancy scare at the end of the second season, Liz realized that she really wanted to become a mother, so she looked into the possibility of adoption. "Is it so wrong that I just want to have one of these to grow up and resent me?" she asked Pete. Megan Mullally, best known for playing the kooky Karen Walker on "Will and Grace", made an appearance as Bev, the adoption agency evaluator who was giving Liz the once-over in this episode.

When Bev was accidentally hit in the head and couldn't remember the bad first impression from her visit to the studio, Liz thought that she was given the chance to have a "do-over", and went to painful lengths to duplicate Bev's evaluation of her workplace and colleagues, this time with everyone trying their best to make Liz look good of course.

The plan seemed to work at first, until it became clear that Bev couldn't retain any long-term memories, so Liz gave up the game and sent Bev to the hospital.

Answer: Oprah Winfrey

In "Believe in the Stars", Liz was called up for jury duty and had to fly back to Chicago, so Jack gave her a sedative to take on the flight. "Nobody flies without medication anymore," advised Jack. "Why shouldn't you enjoy the same luxuries as a dog?" Liz was under the influence of something called "comanapracil" (whose side effects included dizziness, sexual nightmares and sleep crime) when she thought she was sitting next to Oprah Winfrey on the plane. "Oprah" turned out to be Pam, a 12-year-old middle school student whose mother was a flight attendant. Liz's experience wasn't unique - Jack admitted that he had in-flight medication to thank for meeting M. Night Shyamalan, who turned out to be Jonathan, his personal assistant.

Answer: Jennifer Aniston

In "The One with the Cast of Night Court" (the title of this episode was a play on the titles for all the "Friends" episodes), Jennifer Aniston made a guest appearance as Claire Harper, Liz's emotionally unstable friend who developed an unhealthy obsession with Jack. "She's like a human Macarena," warned Liz. "Something everyone did at parties in 1996." Tragically, Jack found himself irresistibly drawn to Claire, even after she crashed a fundraiser to sing "Happy Birthday" to Jack and broke into his house to make him a white pizza and a pot roast.

The last straw came when Claire stole a gun from a cop and handed it to Jack outside a crowded club, which led to Jack's arrest and appearance in Court. "Lemon, real Night Court is not at all like the TV show," Jack informed Liz. "The hookers are not funny, there's a lot more sickly homeless people and terrified college students."

Answer: Steve Martin

When Liz accompanied Jack to the home of Gavin Volure in the episode of the same name, she never expected to be swept off her feet by the charming industrialist, played by Steve Martin. It later transpired that he was only pretending to have agoraphobia so that people wouldn't find out that he was actually under house arrest for tax fraud, embezzlement and racketeering.

The U.S. Government owned the grand mansion he was living in, which he shared with three other white-collar criminals. Gavin also tricked Jack into investing in a new "business venture", which turned out to be a ruse to raise money so that he could purchase disguises for his escape.

He tried to make his getaway when Liz visited him at home, but everything didn't go according to plan. "I thought Derek was upstairs," Gavin cried as he was tackled to the ground by a U.S. Marshal. "I miscounted the men, Liz! I miscounted the men!"

Answer: Nurse

After Jack hit his mother with his car just before Christmas, he hired Elisa to care for her while she was recuperating at home. "I think you'll find being my mother's nurse a mixed bag," Jack said to Elisa. "When she's in a foul mood it can be horribly unpleasant, but at other times, she is asleep." The two started dating, and had to work at overcoming the various obstacles that stood between them.

When Elisa's hectic work schedule threatened to keep them apart, Jack resorted to bringing her vegetative patient along with them on their dates. Jack also had to win the approval of Elisa's grandmother, who disliked him because of his uncanny resemblance to the villain in "Los Amantes Clandestinos", her favorite soap opera.

Answer: Valentine's Day

Liz couldn't make it on Friday because of her "stupid show", so she pushed for Saturday without realizing that it was Valentine's Day. Drew figured that she didn't have a good grasp on what month it was because of her Jack-o'-lantern rotting in the hallway. "Well it's just gotten so small that I kinda want to see if it disappears," Liz explained.

When Liz sought counsel from Jack for her blunder, he advised her to salvage the situation by taking it slow. "Instead of going to a restaurant where it'll be nothing but people in love and rings hidden in pastries, cook him a nice meal at home." Unfortunately, their first date was a bit of a disaster - Liz's breast fell out of her blouse during dinner, and she inadvertently gave Drew a view of her sitting on the toilet.

Their date was also interrupted when Drew's ex-wife dumped their daughter on him, and when he was called away to the hospital after his dying "mother" took a turn for the worse.

Elisa wanted to go to church for the Feast of the Martyrdom of St. Valentine, but Jack didn't seem very excited at the thought. "Please, Jack," Elisa pleaded. "Don't tell me you're one of those convenient Catholics that only goes to church every Sunday." Jack couldn't wait for the service to be over so he could scoot off to Plunder to enjoy "The Lover's Delight" - a dessert consisting of Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream in a pool of Cognac, drizzled in the world's most expensive chocolate, Amedei Porcelana, covered with shaved white, black and clear truffles, and topped with edible 25-carat gold leaf.

His impatience led to a hilarious attempt at multi-tasking during the Lord's Prayer: "Our Jonathan who art at the office. Hallowed be my reservation. If you are able, hold my table at Plunder as we will not be there by seven. Have them delay our heavenly dessert, and forgive us our lateness, as we forgive those who cause lateness against us."

Answer: Harry and the Hendersons

When Jack joined the TGS writers for a boys' night out, he bonded with Frank while watching "Harry and the Hendersons". "Maybe it's because we didn't have fathers," said Jack. "Maybe that's why we're drawn to movies where the father figure pushes away the child slash legendary North American forest ape." Later, Jack convinced Frank to go back to law school, but had to get him to change his mind after Frank's mother (guest star Patti Lupone) informed him that all the Rossitano men who become lawyers either ended up dead or in hiding, which was also the fate of Frank's father. Jack got Frank to stay on as a writer in NBC by treating him in the same way that John Lithgow treated Harry in the movie - he hit him and yelled at him to go back to where he came from and leave him alone.

Initially, Jack wasn't interested in meeting his biological father. "You know what family means to me, Lemon?" he remarked. "Resentment, guilt, anger. Easter egg hunts that turn into knife fights. Why would I want to invite more of it into my life? Why would I want more family?" It took some convincing on Liz's part, but she eventually prevailed upon him to change his mind. Jack's private investigator (guest star Steve Buscemi) narrowed down the list of possible fathers to three men, prompting Liz to pull a "Mamma Mia" on them.

As Liz explained, "We get them here under some pretense, figure out which one is your dad, and if its someone you don't want in your life, you walk away." Jack struck out with the first two men on the list - one was Korean and the other lost his genitals in World War II - but it looked like he had a winner with college professor Milton Green. "Fate has brought us together, Jack, to open a whole new chapter in my life," Milton declared when he learnt of his relationship to Jack. "Isn't it amazing?" said Jack. "You don't know the half of it," Milton replied. "I need a kidney!"

In "Kidney Now!" Jack found out that he wasn't a suitable kidney donor for his father, so he hatched a plan to put together a charity song to encourage someone else to come forward to give his father a kidney. His vision for the event was "One song, one man, one kidney" - he just needed the celebrities to agree to take part. He called in every favor he had, and even resorted to blackmail to assemble the group of singers and musicians for the song. "Ok, let's cut to the chase," Jack said when he had Mary J. Blige, Clay Aiken and Elvis Costello assembled in his office. "M.J., you owe me. Who got you a twenty year exclusive performance contract at Sea World? Aiken, your cousin Kenneth Parcell already promised me you'd do this. And Elvis, or should I say Declan MacManus, international art thief?"

Jack's tactics worked, and the season ended with Mary J. Blige, Clay Aiken and Elvis Costello joining Sheryl Crow, Maroon 5's Adam Levine, Cyndi Lauper, Robert Randolph, Wyclef Jean, Michael McDonald, Mike-D, Ad-Rock, Moby, Sara Bareilles, Steve Earle, Norah Jones, Rhett Miller, Talib Kweli, and Rachael Yamagata in a suitably over-the-top song about kidney transplantation. The star-studded spectacle prompted Liz to remark to Jack, "We sure had quite a year!" to which Jack replied, "What are you talking about, it's May."
