Garvey is the Chief of Police of the small town of Mapleton. He has two children, high school student Jill, and college dropout Tom. Allusions are made about his missing wife, but we don't learn what happened to her until close to the end of the episode.

Only dogs that saw their owners vanish turned feral. It's implied that all other dogs are fine. No other animals seem to have been affected.

Wayne seems to have the ability to 'heal' folks psychologically. Those burdened by survivor's guilt, abandonment issues, grief, etc. It's also implied that he has an undisclosed mission and tells Tom to prepare, because the 'grace period' is over.

As they're burying the dog, one of the twins starts talking about the dogs that went feral and how they snapped when witnessing their owners disappear. That dogs can't reason and try to understand, they simply go primal. He points out the same thing is happening to the "leftovers", it's just taking longer.

Not until near the end of the episode do we learn that Kevin's wife, Laurie (played by "Judging Amy's" Amy Brenneman), is one of the silent members of the Guilty Remnant. Drunken Kevin begs her to come home, but she mutely refuses.

A deer is seen repeatedly throughout the episode but no clue is given as to its significance. Kevin sees one in a front yard, hits one with his car, believes a deer was responsible for his demolished kitchen, and then in the road moments before the deer is attacked by feral dogs.
