Gladys is taken from a gas station to the woods, where she is bound to a tree. Multiple assailants dressed all in black silently hurl rocks at Gladys' head. Weak and bleeding profusely, Gladys breaks GR protocol and speaks, begging them to stop. Her pleas fall on deaf ears.

Answer: The mystery man

It turns out the mystery man is real, and not just some figment of Kevin's imagination. Kevin learns the mystery man's name is Dean and that he lives somewhere in Mapleton. Dean was in the woods hunting dogs.

Answer: All his white shirts

Eight white shirts, to be exact. It's an odd plot line that threads through the episode. He later goes to the laundromat assuming he forgot to pick them up. The clerk greets him as "Officer Mustard Stain". They do a cursory search for the shirts and claim they don't have them. Even later in the episode, and a bit tipsy, a much more hostile Kevin returns to the now closed laundromat, demands they open, and makes the clerk search for his shirts again.

This time the clerk finds them. We're left to wonder about the significance of this part of the story.

Answer: ATF

The ATF is now the ATFEC: Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Explosives and Cults. We had our first real look at ATFEC in action in a previous episode, during the raid of Holy Wayne's compound. Their approach was basically 'shoot first, ask questions later'. In this episode, ATFEC Agent Kilaney offers to "eliminate the infestation" of GR in Mapleton.

Answer: Instituting a curfew

Kevin wants a mandatory 8PM curfew for the town in hopes of keeping everyone safe. The Mayor calls a council meeting to vote on the proposal, and backs Kevin's request. Interestingly, Dean (mystery man) is the most vocal opponent to the curfew. The council unanimously opposes the curfew.

Answer: A diner

The scene in the diner is surprising in many ways. Patti breaks with all of the GR protocols - she speaks, she's not wearing white, she's not chain smoking. She gives Laurie permission to speak, a 'day off' as it were, but Laurie remains mute.

The most interesting reveal during Patti's monologue is her comment "You remember what you told me to do in the last session?" It implies a previous relationship between the women, possibly of therapist/patient.

Answer: Reverend Matt

Matt was a reasonable suspect. He'd been assaulted with a rock while trying to help a GR member. The GR bought his church out from under him and painted it white. Kevin theorizes Matt wanted revenge.

Matt's alibi is strong, though. During the murder he was at home with his study group, some of whom spent the night to help with Matt's invalid wife, Mary.

While it isn't revealed who the murderers are, we see Laurie have a flash of Gladys being stoned to death. Whether it's just Laurie's horrified imagination, or Laurie took part in the murder, is unclear.

Answer: Whistles

Knowing they won't call for help, Kevin hopes they'll whistle for help. While he's at the compound, Kevin asks Meg about Laurie - where is she, how is she. Meg keeps giving him an 'I don't know' answer.

Later in the episode, Matt and some followers show up at the compound to pray for Gladys. Laurie storms up to him, blowing her whistle to drown him out.

Answer: True

Meg grew colder throughout the episode. After finding Gladys' body, Meg admits she should be scared, yet she isn't. When Kevin asks after Laurie, Meg's heart seems to harden and she tells him nothing.

When Patti and Laurie return to the compound, they find Meg dressed all in white, holding a notepad and pen. Meg writes "I am ready now".

One of the better insights into the GR, in my opinion, came from Matt in this episode. During a conversation with Kevin, Matt says "Killing these people is pointless. They don't care, because they're already dead."

Answer: Cremated

Without any exam or ceremony, Gladys is fed right into the crematorium. Other bodies in the same shipment are being photographed and clearly retained for further investigation, but the murdered cult member is quickly dispatched. On the phone with Kevin, Agent Kilaney tells him the ATFEC doesn't need Kevin's reports, forensics, etc.

It's clear the only interest ATFEC has in the cults is to destroy them and that the ATFEC will not be investigating Gladys' murder.
