In a flashback in the same episode, Enid is shown inscribing the letters JSS on dusty windows, in the dirt, and on animal bones as she survives alone in the woods prior to stumbling on Alexandria.

Seasons later, Carl will write Enid a letter before she dies in which he tells her that surviving is not the same as living. Enid will later tell Henry about that letter.

In "Heads Up," Glenn has been hiding under a dumpster to avoid a walker attack. When he emerges, Enid tosses him a water bottle before running away. He pursues her, and though she initially points a gun at him, he convinces her to return to Alexandria. Enid confesses she ran away because she's afraid of losing people.

Carl tricks her into going in under the guise of getting a gun, and then he locks her inside because he doesn't want her to risk her life. He knows it's going to be dangerous getting Maggie to the Hilltop because of the Saviors. Enid asks what will happen if he doesn't return, and he throws her words in her note back at her: "Just survive somehow."

Enid and Carl end up holding hands as they roller skate down the road together. In the same episode - season 7, episode 5 - the young couple shares a first kiss.

Enid and Aaron go to Oceanside to see if they can get the women to share their guns in "How It's Gotta Be." Aaron is attacked in the dark by Natania, and Enid shoots her to save him. In season 10, episode 7, Siddiq has flashbacks to the day he witnessed Alpha decapitate his friends. Enid appears in the flashback, and it is the moment when she is decapitated that Siddiq hears, "Open your eyes." Siddiq expresses to Rosita the feeling that he failed Enid.
