After Caleb's arrest, all Seth can talk about is his new bad haircut, leading him to realize how self-absorbed he was. When it comes to his situation with Summer, his new stance is that he only wants her if SHE wants him back.

Ryan has just bought a cup of coffee, turns around and bumps into Lindsay (though he doesn't know her name at the time). His coffee spills all down the front of her shirt and when he turns around to grab napkins, he elbows her in the face. She then fusses at him for causing her to spend her first day at that school with coffee stains and a bloody nose.

For their first assignment as lab partners, Lindsay completes the project by herself, puts Ryan's name on it and turns it in. Ryan gets the project back from the teacher and they end up with an extra assignment. Lindsay thinks Ryan is a stupid rich kid and Ryan thinks she is a cold snob. They finally agree to split the assignment and meet up that weekend.

Seth wants to get tickets for Summer and Zach to see a band called The Walkmen, who are playing at The Bait Shop that coming Friday night. This is all part of his new persona of being selfless. When he gets to the club, he finds out that they're sold out but employees get tickets for free. Seth notices the Help Wanted sign and ends up being hired after a trial day on the job.

Summer arrives at The Bait Shop without Zach. Seth shows her to a nice table and sits with her during the show. Seth admits to Summer that he took the job there so that he could get the tickets for her. He wanted to show her he could be selfless so that she would like him enough to be friends. Everything goes well until he leans in and kisses her, causing Summer to storm out.

When Seth catches her outside, she tells him that if they can't be friends, they may have to end any type of relationship all together.

Sandy had suggested to Caleb that he step down as CEO and appoint Kirsten. Shortly after, Julie is trying to help Caleb in any way that she can and ends up getting told to order food. He says Kirsten has everything under control. We never see the confrontation between Julie and Caleb that leads him to make the decision to appoint her as CEO so the announcement is slightly shocking to the viewer as well.

Seth heads over to Marissa's house and tells her about what happened with Summer the night before at the Bait Shop. Marissa tells Seth that he screwed up and should just apologize.

Caleb offers this job to Kirsten, pointing out that the person who controls the money controls the company. Kirsten knows this and seems to accept the offer, still loathing the idea of working for Julie.

Marissa had found out from Seth that Ryan was at school that day (it was a weekend), working on a project. Marissa goes there and sees how well the two are getting along. She doesn't interrupt and leaves the school in a broken state, as always.

In season one, Seth goes to lunch with Summer and her father and it turns into a disaster, causing Summer to second guess her relationship with Seth. In this episode, Seth sees that Zach and Mr. Roberts are getting along wonderfully. He leaves the club and finds Marissa sitting on a bench on the waterfront.

He joins her, saying that he can't believe that they are the two loneliest people in Newport.
