Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mulder: 'That doesn't quite explain the potato.'

Answer: Humbug

This episode involves the agents investigating murders in a community of circus performers. The agents discover that the sheriff of the town used to be a circus performer called "Jim Jim The Dog-Faced Boy". They do surveillance on him and see him burying something, which they think may be a clue to the murders.

It turns out the sheriff was actually trying out an old wives' tales - to get rid of a wart, rub a potato on it and bury the potato in the ground under a full moon.
2. Mulder: 'No, you know unfortunately around this time of year I always develop a severe hemorrhoidal condition.'

Answer: Detour

Mulder and Scully are on their way to an FBI team building seminar with two other agents. One of the agents, Kingsley, asks Mulder if he has ever been to one of the annual FBI meetings and this is Mulder's response. He and Scully are less than enthusiastic about being stuck with other agents, especially ones that are so enthusiastic about their road trip. Fortunately for Mulder, they stumble across a local murder investigation in the woods of Florida and he and Scully stay behind to lend a hand.
3. Scully: 'Loneliness is a choice.'

Answer: Milagro

Scully has a secret admirer in this episode, a writer named Phillip Padgett. Padgett gives Scully a pendant of a milagro, which is Spanish for "miracle". He is also a possible suspect in murders the agents are investigating. Scully goes to Padgett's because she is curious about him and wants to help their investigation by gaining some information.

When he asked her why she is alone (i.e. single), this was her response. In the end, Padgett's obsession with Scully almost costs her her life.
4. Scully: 'The only reason why you're alive is because I asked the judge for life!'

Answer: Orison

Donnie Phaster, a serial killer Mulder and Scully helped put away years earlier, escapes from prison and hunts for Scully, his one victim who got away from him. He holds her captive in her apartment and prepares to kill her. She tries to reason with him by telling him the only reason he isn't dead is because she asked the judge for mercy and that a judge wouldn't be merciful a second time. Phaster isn't moved by her plea. Mulder bursts into Scully's apartment just as she secretly frees herself from her bonds.

As Mulder is apprehending Donnie Phaster, Scully walks out of her bedroom and shoots Phaster dead.
5. Mulder: 'You know, I never thought I'd say this to you, Scully... but you smell bad.'

Answer: War of the Coprophages

Mulder is working with an attractive entomologist named Bambi to investigate mutant cockroaches that are terrorizing a town. Mulder and Scully assist in killing the roaches by blowing up the research facility where they are breeding. The explosion covers the agents in dung and Bunny, unscathed, walks off with a fellow scientist. Mulder, in a sour mood, tells Scully she stinks and from her expression, she is very hurt by his stinging remark.
6. Scully: 'You're in on it. You're one of them. You're one of the people who abducted me. You put that thing in my neck. You killed my sister!'

Answer: Wetwired

Scully says this to Mulder. While watching videos that have been linked to psychotic behavior, Scully was exposed to the same wave frequency that causes her paranoia. In a face off at her mother's house, Scully threatens to kill Mulder, thinking that he is behind her abduction. Scully's mother finally convinces her that Mulder can be trusted and that she needs medical care.
7. Mulder: 'We just spooned up and fell asleep like little baby cats.'

Answer: Arcadia

Scully and Mulder go undercover as a married couple, named Rob and Laura Petrie, to find out what evil is lurking in a gated living community. Their banter in this episode is classic as they try to keep up appearances as a happily married couple. When asked by their neighbor how their first night was in their new home, Mulder puts his arm around Scully and responds with this line. Scully is obviously miffed at Mulder's overacting but goes along with it.

She actually gets a few good digs in on him, even calling him Poopie Head in front of the neighbors.
8. Scully: 'Because the FBI has nothing to hide.'

Answer: X-Cops

A spoof of the FOX television show 'Cops', Mulder and Scully help the LAPD in a multiple-homicide investigation while being filmed for the reality show. While performing an autopsy on one of the victims, the assistant M.E asks why they are being filmed and this is Scully's response. Mulder enjoys the limelight while Scully is more skeptical about how they (and the FBI) will be perceived on national TV.
9. Mulder: 'Samurais without masters have to advertise.'

Answer: Pusher

Mulder and Scully meet a man who can get manipulate the minds of his victims and control their actions. Mulder finally gets Pusher behind bars but he reappears in a later episode, 'Kitsunegari', with his sister, who has the same deadly telepathic abilities. Mulder says this line about samurais when trying to explain how Pusher finds his victims.
10. Scully: 'It's about Agent Mulder. He's done something incredibly rash.'

Answer: Triangle

One of the best 'X-Files' ever! Mulder goes to investigate the Queen Anne, a luxury cruise liner that was lost in the Bermuda triangle in 1939, and has mysteriously reappeared. The Lone Gunmen seek Scully's help to locate him and she needs to explain his absence to AD Skinner. Even though she says this line to Skinner, he tells her that his hands are tied and he can't help assist her or Mulder since they now report to AD Kirsch. However, Skinner does come through for her and gives her the coordinates of Mulder's last whereabouts. This episode was shot in widescreen format, had great costumes and an excellent storyline (Mulder and Scully kiss!).
