Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which part of Vyvyan's dirty washing 'escapes' to terrorise the four students?

Answer: Sock

The students have not washed their clothes since "23rd October 1981" so the contents of the laundry bag are somewhat ripe! Vyvyan's sock escapes which cause much consternation amongst the four, Vyv retrieves the situation by 'killing' it with a frying pan. He is urged on by Rick and the supposed pacifist, Neil.
2. In a typically bizarre sketch Robbie Coltrane plays Dr Carlisle and Tony Robinson plays Dr ___.

Answer: Not The Nine O'Clock News

The scenes were an unlikely parody of "The Elephant Man" and featured a real elephant!
Tony Robinson is best remembered as the hapless Baldrick in the "Blackadder" series. The lead role in "Blackadder" was played by Rowan Atkinson who first came to national attention in the sketch show "Not The Nine O'Clock News".
3. Which of the four students breaks the news that they are to appear on "University Challenge"?

Answer: Neil

The opening scenes of this episode show Neil rushing along the street eager to tell his news. When he gets inside the house he has to answer the telephone; this distraction makes him forget to tell the others. He doesn't remember until after the ill-fated trip to the Laundrette.
4. Motorhead provide the music in this episode. Which song do they perform?

Answer: Ace of Spades

Lemmy and the boys set up in the students' front room and power through "Ace of Spades". The Students do not hang around to see the whole performance; they have to get to the station as quickly as possible.
5. On their way to the TV studios Vyv stops the train by pulling the communication cord after he, quite literally, loses his head. How is the train then further delayed?

Answer: The train is held up by Mexican bandits

Vyv has to stop the train initially to collect his severed head! The train is then held up further by a Mexican bandit who points a gun at the train driver. The driver just happens to be Alexei Sayle who launches into a rather strange tirade about the links between revolutionaries and biscuits, not surprisingly this thoroughly confuses the bandit and we assume the raid fails.
6. Scumbag College's finest arrive at the TV studios two weeks late and have to persuade the commissionaire to let them in. Vyv is now carrying a young pig called Bacon Sandwich which he claims is their mascot. What does he tell the commissionaire it is?

Answer: A ferret

Mel Smith plays the gullible commissionaire who reluctantly believes Vyv's ferret story until Vyv confesses it was a wind-up. Vyv's hamster, SPG, makes the trip as well and promptly assaults the Footlights' teddy-bear mascot.
7. Which of these comedians was not on the Footlights, Oxbridge team?

Answer: Griff Rhys-Jones

The Footlights team comprised Lord Snot (Stephen Fry), Lord Monty (Hugh Laurie),Mr Kendal Mintcake (Ben Elton) and Miss Money-Stirling (Emma Thompson).
Griff Rhys-Jones played the quiz-master, Bambi, which was a take on the original host of British "University Challenge", Bamber Gascoigne.
8. Footlights player Lord Snot receives which unsettling piece of news during the game?

Answer: He is no longer the richest person in the world

Bambi poses the question; "Who is the richest person in the world?"
To which Lord Snot replies, "It's me isn't it?"
Bambi, "No, I'm afraid not: your father's multi-national company collapsed only this morning!"
9. Which of these incidents does not occur during the "University Challenge" match?

Answer: Mike attempts to chat-up Miss Money-Stirling

Neil is desperate to go to the toilet so Mike empties a jug of water over Lord Snot so that Neil can put the jug to more effective use.
Scumbag College are being completely overun by a combination of slanted questions and obvious bribes by the Footlights team. Vyv has had enough and kicks through the 'partition' and stamps on Kendal Mintcake's head. He follows this up by hurling a stick grenade at the opposition which leaves only one team in the match.
Surprisingly, Mike doesn't make a pass at Miss Money-Stirling.
10. Question-master Bambi poses this tricky one; "Who holds the world record for sticking marshmallows up one nostril?" Which of these is apparently the right answer?

Answer: Toxteth O'Grady

It's one of the questions that Rick has substituted. While they were on the train Vyvyan had come up with the exceptional piece of information that Toxteth O'Grady from the USA had stuffed 604 marshmallows up one nostril. Vyv is not best pleased that Mike answers 'his' question.
