Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the first name of Sookie's grandmother, whom she fondly called "Gran"?

Answer: Adele

Adele Hale Stackhouse raised Sookie and Jason after the death of their parents. They always believed their parents had died in a flood, but in season five found out they'd been killed by a vampire. It was their cousin Hadley that delivered this disturbing news. Lois Smith played Adele in season one, and in later seasons in flashback or spirit form. You may remember seeing her in such films as "Fried Green Tomatoes" (1991), "Twister" (1996), and "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" (2012).

In the novels, it was a fairy that killed their parents instead of a flood. Of all the changes from books to TV, it has been the gross misrepresentation of Charlaine Harris' Fae story lines that has bothered me the most.
2. Who married Arlene Fowler after she discovered she was pregnant with her third child?

Answer: Terry Bellefleur

Terry was happy to be a father to Arlene's children from a previous marriage, Coby and Lisa. He was even happier to know they'd be having their own child. Unfortunately, Arlene was alarmed when she realized her third child was sired by a dead psychopath she knew as René Lenier.

She and Holly tried to end the pregnancy magically, but it did not work. She named the baby boy Mikey Bellefleur. In season five, Arlene watched a video of her wedding to Terry during a trying time for the couple.
3. Who was forced to create the vampire Jessica Hamby after staking a vampire named Longshadow?

Answer: Bill

Bill staked the vamp to save Sookie. The Magister passed a sentence on Bill that required him to create a new vampire to replace the one he'd killed. Bill did not want to do it. Afterward, Jessica was glad to be free of her harsh religious upbringing. Upon Bill's request, Sookie tried to aid Jessica during her transformation. Since season one, Jessica has become quite an interesting character that was not a part of the books.

She and Tara are one of the few changes I have enjoyed. Tara in the books is nothing like Rutina Wesley's portrayal, and I'd describe her as a minute and boring character by comparison in the books. Deborah Ann Woll plays Jessica.
4. At the end of season four, this character died saving Sookie from Debbie Pelt.

Answer: Tara

Tara got in between Debbie's rifle and Sookie, taking a head shot in the process. Sookie was able to retrieve the weapon and blow Debbie's head off of her body. Lafayette was at Sookie's when this all happened. Pam arrived on seen not long afterward, and Sookie made a deal with Pam to save Tara by making her a vampire. Pam didn't even think it would work, since Tara's head was pretty much gone. It did work, and Sookie would owe Pam a huge favor. Tara awoke and was angry about her new situation. She even tried to kill herself, but Pam ordered her to never try that again.

In the books, it was an amnesiac Eric Northman with Sookie when Debbie came after her. Sookie blew her head off then as well, and Eric disposed of the body and Debbie's car. When his memory returned, he did not recall the events of that night, or his love affair with Sookie during that time frame. Though I did not love this change either, I did enjoy the vampire Tara.
5. Who was responsible for erasing Eric's memory in season four?

Answer: Marnie

Marnie Stonebrook was a powerful medium that practiced in the Wiccan faith. She allowed her body to be used by a vengeful spirit in season four, which culminated in her death. But, it was after Eric threatened her coven that she wiped out his memory. Sookie found him wandering the streets, bewildered and fearful.

She cared for him during this time of vulnerability, and they became lovers. In book four, "Dead to the World", Marnie and her brother Mark were witches, but also Weres. With the help of Alcide, Sookie was able to discover what they were up to, and allow Eric's memory to be restored.
6. How many daughters did Andy Bellefleur become father to in the season five finale?

Answer: 4

Sheriff Bellefleur had a couple of liaisons with a very old fairy woman, who still looked young and beautiful. One of those moments was after he began an intimate relationship with girlfriend Holly. A week later, the fairy came to him and explained they'd made a "light bond" and he was to be a father.

She went into labor inside Merlotte's, and Holly delivered her four daughters on a pool table. Arlene, Terry, Lafayette and Jane Bodehouse looked on as they were born. After the birth, the fairy told Andy to take very good care of the girls, and she was off on her way.
7. What was the name of the wolf that Alcide killed in season five that made him Packmaster?

Answer: JD

JD had one been a good wolf, but not was a V addict. He began forcing the pack to drink the vampire blood as well, and Alcide reached his limit with Pack destruction. His father gave him a dose of V to challange JD, and it was enough to kill the man. He proclaimed himself as Packmaster, and said there would be no more disgracing the Pack.

In the novels, it was his father who challenged the Packmaster, a Were named Patrick Furnan. Patrick killed Alcide's father in that battle. Alcide did eventually take the role of Packmaster, though.
8. In season five, Hoyt Fortenberry was glamored so that he would not remember either Jason or Jessica.

Answer: True

Season five had seen Hoyt as a vampire groupie, part of an anti-supe assassination squad, and finally just as a human done with Bon Temps. He saved Jessica from the killing party, and decided to take an oil job in Alaska. He told his mom he was leaving and then arranged for Jess and Jason to meet him at Merlotte's. Once there, he asked Jessica to glamor away all memories he had of her and Jason.

She did what he asked. On Hoyt's drive out of town, Jason pulled him over and asked him to stay. Hoyt asked Jason if he was related to Sookie Stackhouse, whom he still remembered, and asked if his mom had encouraged Jason to do this. Jason finally let Hoyt go, and then broke into tears with Sookie by his side. Actor Jim Parrack played Hoyt for all five seasons.
9. In season five, to whom did Russell Edgington gift a "pet" wolf named Emma?

Answer: Steve Newlin

Russell collected Emma from her grandmother after feeding the Pack his blood. He'd already been telling Steve all about the countless years he'd kept Weres as pets. Emma was the daughter of Luna Garza and Marcus Bozeman, though Marcus had been killed by Alcide. Sam and Luna infiltrated the secret underground nest of the Guardians by shifting into either mice or house flies, and stowing away in Steve Newlin's messenger bag. Luna, a shifter and skinwalker, imitated Steve and sneaked Emma out of the cells. Emma was part Were, but turned into a wolf as though full Were. Michael McMillian played the part of Steve Newlin beginning in season two.
10. At the very end of season five's final episode, who did Bill Compton trick into thinking she was drinking the sacred vial of Lilith's blood?

Answer: Salome

Lilith, being the devious God she was, kept appearing to members of the Authority down inside their secret lair. She was trying to get one of them to drink all of her blood, presumably to reincarnate herself. Bill told Salome that she was the chosen one, as he probably realized Salome had seen Lilith as well. Salome, being ancient, arrogant, and power hungry, ate up Bill's false praise and devotion. So, when the time came to consume the blood, she was in too much of a hurry to smell the silver Bill had added to the vial.

He'd also replaced the real blood. Salome drank down the liquid. As she fell to incapacitation, Bill confessed his trick and that it was he who was chosen. He staked Salome, and drank the real blood himself. Eric and Sookie pleaded with him not to do it, but he was too far gone.

After a short moment, Bill combusted as though he'd been staked and then something rose out of the blood pool. Was it Bill, as it appeared, or was it Lilith herself? Season five ended right there.
