Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "The Fourth Man in the Fire", Sookie had to come to terms with Bill's death. The only thing was, that the fourth man in the fire was not Bill. Where did Sookie finally find Bill and end her grieving?

Answer: in the cemetery

Bill had hidden himself literally underground sometime after retrieving Malcolm and company from Merlotte's, but before the fire had been set at their new home. Sookie went to visit Bill's Civil War era grave site, and suddenly he crawled out of the ground.

The couple celebrated his awakening instantly and enthusiastically. Terry Bellefluer had seen Sam running nude from the general direction of Malcolm's house, but Sam had to convince Terry he'd hallucinated the entire scene. Later though, when question by Andy Bellefluer, Sam admitted it was him.

He said he was honoring his dead parents and their naturist lifestyle. A naturist is basically a nudist. I think it's safe to say that by now we all know the reason Sam was nude was because he is a shifter. Alan Ball and company painted the murder suspicions toward Sam, even more so than Charlaine Harris did in the book "Dead Until Dark".
2. Jason started dating a girl named Amy who was addicted to vampire blood.

Answer: True

He met her in Fangtasia when he himself was jonesing for V, as it was known by. She basically saved his behind when he began to get himself noticed in the fangbanger bar. He took her home and they shared the V she had left. What ensued was an amazing and psychedelic experience. In "The Fourth Man in the Fire", Amy met Jason's people at Merlotte's and was warned by Sookie what a player Jason was. It was later that evening that Amy's addiction began to rear its ugly head, and she talked/tricked him into kidnapping a vampire from his home just to take his blood. Jason got the vamp to open the door by claiming to be a friend of Lafayette's, and then Amy threw silver chainmail over his head. Lafayette had just been with the vampire (played by actor Steven Root) trading sex for V. Lizzy Caplan played Amy Burley. She was seen briefly in the series "Tru Calling", but starred in the series "The Class" and the nauseating film "Cloverfield".

In the book, Jason did not meet Amy in Fangtasia and neither drank vampire blood.
3. "Plaisir D'Amour"- Who staked Long Shadow and saved Sookie's life?

Answer: Bill

After she outed the vamp bartender, Long Shadow attacked Sookie at Fangtasia. Without a moment's hesitation, Bill staked the vamp. This led to a gloriously gory scene when Long Shadow's blood poured out of his mouth like a fountain down onto Sookie. Later, someone of high importance called on Bill to face a tribunal for his crime.

In the book, it was Eric who saved Sookie from Long Shadow inside Fangtasia.
4. "Plaisir D'Amour"- Approximately how much money was it going to cost Tara to have an exorcism performed on her?

Answer: $800

While it cost her mama about $400, paid for by Tara, the exorcist told Tara her own demons would cost more. She said it would be $799.95 to exorcise Tara's demons, and Tara was broke. She told Sam about the scenario, and he gave her the cash. She protested about it, but finally accepted the money.

In the book series, Tara was introduced in book two. She was also a slightly pathetic and needy woman, not the feisty, albeit angry, beauty played by Rutina Wesley.
5. "I Don't Wanna Know"- Did Tara have her exorcism?

Answer: Yes

She drank something called snake juice and hallucinated seeing her young self. The exorcist told her she needed to kill the little girl, so Tara used a knife to do it. Later, she came home and told her mom she was healed. They went to DeSoto to visit a favorite restaurant and stopped in a local pharmacy.

There Tara found the women who performed the exorcism on them both, working as a clerk. She attacked the woman and called out her deception. She finally admitted she did exorcisms to enhance herself financially.

She said she had a son in prison, one in Iraq and three grandchildren to take care of in the meantime. Tara decided not to tell her mom that the lady was a fake, but she did show up at Arlene and Rene's engagement party drunk.
6. "I Don't Wanna Know"- After much discussion, what was Bill's punishment for the murder of Long Shadow?

Answer: he had to turn a human into a vampire

The usual punishment was being encased in silver and placed in a coffin for five years. But, due to the fact that Long Shadow was stealing from Eric and Sookie had been the one to uncover the truth, the man in charge decided a better punishment was for Bill to give back a life. He was given a young woman named Jessica to turn. Bill had never created a vampire before, and wanted no part of the act. But, it was clear Jessica could either die horribly as a human, or die and come back as a monster. In the end, Bill began draining her for the change.

Sookie and Sam discussed his shifter abilities in this episode as well, and Sookie did not take it well. She felt he should have told her earlier. Also, the killer (whom I already knew from the books) finally attacked Sookie directly. It happened in Merlotte's during the engagement party. Bill did leave Sookie in the book, but there was no mention of turning Jessica, since he didn't kill Long Shadow at all.
7. After Bill turned Jessica into a vampire, did SHE appear to be happy about it?

Answer: Yes

She was relieved to be free of her formerly uptight existence. She was also extremely hungry and ready to kill for food. Bill tried to explain to her that she couldn't kill people and that she would learn to deal with the intense hunger. Jessica, played by Deborah Ann Woll, was returned to Bill's custody in the season finale. Pam and Eric found her way too annoying to keep an eye on her any longer.
8. What happened in the season finale that was also different from the first book, "Dead Until Dark"?

Answer: Sookie killed the killer- Rene Lenier

A lot of stuff happened in the season finale that did not occur in the first book. In the series, Sookie had to leave Merlotte's because of all the noise inside her head. When she went to her car it wouldn't start, so Rene drove her home in Jason's truck.

He stayed with her, as she said she couldn't be alone. While in her home, she overheard heard him thinking about wanting to kill. A chase ensued through the cemetery between her home and the Compton property. While that did happened in the book, it happened at night.

She was able to stab Rene with his own knife, but he didn't die. He brutally beat and kicked her before she got to Bill's house. He later confessed to the killings, freeing Jason from police custody. In the book he did not escort her home from the bar, but showed up at her house that evening. I am actually glad she killed him in the series, which she did to save both her and Sam. Sam was the one who saved her from Rene, instead of Bill. Bill, instead, rose from his sleep and attempted to beat the sunlight and save Sookie.

He was fried horribly before reaching her, but recovered after Sam buried him.
9. "You'll Be the Death of Me"- Who was Tara's mysterious benefactor?

Answer: Maryann

Maryann was a mysterious social worker who'd arrived at the jail to bail out Tara in the episode prior. She took Tara to her glorious home and sold her a bill of goods about being a do gooder. Tara, ever wary, did not want to believe someone could and would help her for no reason.

She told Maryann her mom called it Devil in a Sunday hat. Maryann was after Sam, and she saw him at Sookie's house after the battle with Rene. Sam was not happy to see her, though I have no idea who she was, as she was not in the book either.

She was a magical being, as seen on screen, but what kind was not yet revealed.
10. "You'll Be the Death of Me"- Who was NOT one of the people to discover a body in Andy Bellefluer's car at the end of the episode?

Answer: Sam

Andy had been in Merlotte's, drinking away his disappointment over arresting the wrong man for the murders. Both Tara and Sookie had taken time to be kind to him, and then walked him out to his car. His sister Portia was supposed to be on her way to pick him up, as he was definitely too drunk to drive. Once outside the bar, he realized his car was not where he'd parked it. It turned out to be just a small ways off from the original spot, and when Andy opened the door, a man's leg fell out. The man had painted toes and black skin...
This all happened in book two, so it was the set up for season two, set to air in the summer of 2009!

I hope book fans and new fans enjoyed the first season of HBO's "True Blood". I personally found it to be amazing and very well blended. The next Sookie installment comes out in hardback in May 2009.
