Later, during the memorial service, Michael complimented Locke on killing the boar, and also asked him if he had seen the monster. Locke replied that he hadn't seen it, which apparently was an outright lie.

Locke said several times during this episode that the walkabout was his destiny, and that he was supposed to do it. He first mentioned this when he was being hassled at work by his co-worker. He also told Helen over the phone that he was destined to do these things, presumably the walkabout. And when Locke was denied access on the walkabout bus, he went into a rage and screamed that the trip was his destiny.

This was also the first episode where we hear Locke say repeatedly, "Don't tell me what I can't do!"

Answer: Vincent was barking

That night, Vincent was barking incessantly and acting very agitated. Walt couldn't get him to be quiet, and Vincent woke Boone and Shannon. Soon everyone else woke up to Vincent's barking and to noises from the plane. When the survivors approached the plane, Sawyer shined his light on something, which turned out to be a wild boar. Everyone ran and at least three boars ran into the jungle.

Sayid had made an antenna in hopes of picking up the French woman's transmission. When Kate was bringing Michael back to camp, she stopped to climb a tree and place the antenna. But as she was setting up the antenna, the island beast made an appearance, and Kate dropped the antenna in fright. The island beast then headed toward Locke.

When Jack was gathering wood for the big fire, Claire approached him and mentioned that it would be a good idea if they had a memorial service for those who died in the crash. She had found people's personal belongings, which gave her the idea. Claire wanted Jack to lead the service, but Jack was extremely reluctant and wanted no part of it, so Claire decided to do it herself.

As the fire burned and Locke looked at his old wheelchair, a faint smile of triumph crossed his face. He definitely looked happy! When we learn that Locke couldn't walk and was in a wheelchair, watching his flashback of him getting up after the crash is a very enlightening moment, even amid the screams and chaos of the crash.

After expressing concern for Rose, Boone and Shannon got in an argument (again), and Boone basically told Shannon that she would starve if she kept up her attitude. Shannon said she could catch fish in the ocean, which of course Boone didn't believe. Shannon then went to Charlie and got him to catch a fish for her.

When Boone found out, he was furious and told Charlie that Shannon had used him.

Sawyer is the only main character we see actually give Claire something for the service. When he did so, he inferred that he found the items while looting the plane, and finally told Claire to, "Just take it". He looked rather embarrassed and reluctant to be there. But this did show a softer side of Sawyer, who gave up the items from his stash.

When the group got very close to a boar, Locke gave some hand signal instructions to the others. Michael made a comment concerning the signals, and his voice caught the boar's attention. The boar attacked Michael and gored his leg. Kate had to take him back to camp, but Locke insisted on going ahead to kill the boar.

Claire found an envelope with Sayid's name on it and gave it to him. Inside were pictures of a young woman, who evoked memories and emotion in Sayid by the look on his face.
