1. The episode starts off with Clark up in what his father called (back in season one) Clark's Fortress of Solitude. Lana meets up with Clark for a "mystery date" in that loft of the barn. Although Lana doesn't think a "mystery date" is what their relationship needs right now, it turns out to be perfect. What does Clark's "mystery date" entail? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Mr. and Mrs. Kent are both very surprised to hear that Clark told Lana everything, and then proposed. Martha tells Clark she's proud of him. What does Jonathan say? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Lois turns on the water and is filling a kettle when she steps on a rocky stool to try and get "junk food". Lois almost falls (and actually does the second time around), but Lana catches Lois. Why (according to Lois) was the junk food up so high in the first place? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Lex is very upset that he's lost the election for Senator. When Lana asks him, "Since when have you cared about what other people think?" Lex responds with, "Since I've been branded at birth with the sins of my father." Lex tells Lana she's lucky to not have had to put up with a father- which hurts her feelings. Lana turns away and tells Lex that they shouldn't discuss this when he's so drunk, but when Lex says that he'd never want to hurt Lana, she turns back. How does Lex find out she's engaged to Clark? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Lana lies to protect Clark's secret, telling Lex that "Clark isn't hiding anything." Lex knows better, grabs Lana, and begins to shake her! She frees herself and runs away, and then gets in her car. She calls Clark, and tells him that Lex knows that she knows his secret- although she's not sure how he knows. She also mentions that he's really drunk. What happens next? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Crying, devastated, and unable to accept his new fiancée and love of his life (Lana) as truly dead, Clark appeals to Jor-El, whose only reply is that human life is insignificant. Clark won't let Lana go, crying, "There has to be a way to fix this!", but is informed that while his powers seem extraordinary, Kyrptonians can't alter destiny. But Clark knows that Lana dying wasn't her fate, and this truth makes Jor-El reveal a way to help. What does Jor-El say? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Clark has a chance to save Lana's life, finding himself back in time, right before he took Lana on an unforgettable date. When Clark sees Lana alive again he is ecstatic. However, Clark didn't have an alternative mystery date planned. Clark tries to improvise some new plans. Lana, however, thought she might actually experience a "day she would never forget". After expressing this to Clark, Lana wishes to break up and says "I think I need a break".

Question 8 of 10
8. Lex finds out that Lana and Clark have broken up. He tells Lana that it is possible that Clark will never be able to trust her. Lana reveals that she had thought that if she was patient enough, Clark would eventually open up to her. How ironic. Lana desperately asks Lex, "Why would you lie to the person you love?" Lex responds with "I wouldn't." What does Lex then do? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Lionel knows something about Jonathan's family- something Lionel claims both he and Jonathan would "protect with their lives". Lionel shows Jonathan a piece of paper, but Jonathan crumples it up. He exclaims that he won't let Lionel destroy his family! Jonathan attacks Lionel, but he apparently is having trouble breathing when he says his last words to Lionel. He starts holding his chest, and walks out of the barn, just as Martha and Clark are pulling into their driveway and up to him. When they see him, what happens? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Martha struggles to put on a piece of jewelry just as Clark walks in and tells her he's sorry. Martha insists that Jonathan's death isn't his fault, even when he protests that if hadn't saved Lana, Jonathan wouldn't be dead. Martha reasons that the choice between his father's life and Lana's would have been impossible to make. When Clark puts the piece of jewelry on Martha, he symbolically replaces his father's role in his mother's life, and Martha cries. What type of jewelry was it that Clark put on his mother?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Clark taking Lana to the "real" Fortress of Solitude, showing Lana his powers, and proposing with a ring he created

Clark takes Lana to the hidden room in the cave, and warns her that something highly unusual and scary would be about to occur, but then Clark asks if Lana trusts him, and she does. They arrive in the Yukon and the "real" Fortress of Solitude Jor-El left for Clark as a replica of his home planet's terrain. Lana realizes that Clark has saved her life a million times and never taken credit for it, but Clark's only response is that he could never let anything happen to her.

When Clark crushes coal into a diamond and melts it (with his heat-vision) to a gold band to propose, he doesn't ask for an answer right away.

But still- what a date!
2. Mr. and Mrs. Kent are both very surprised to hear that Clark told Lana everything, and then proposed. Martha tells Clark she's proud of him. What does Jonathan say?

Answer: I guess it's just hard looking over at your son and realizing you're talking to a man- who doesn't need his father's advice anymore.

Clark responds to his father, "I'm always gonna need you, Dad." But Jonathan Kent dies in later the episode, and Martha tells Clark that he'll be able to manage without his father, regardless of what Clark fears. Jonathan is very proud of his son, just as Martha is, when Clark risks everything because he cares about Lana so much.
3. Lois turns on the water and is filling a kettle when she steps on a rocky stool to try and get "junk food". Lois almost falls (and actually does the second time around), but Lana catches Lois. Why (according to Lois) was the junk food up so high in the first place?

Answer: Lois tries to put the junk food out of reach, but sometimes it's more "reachable" than other times

After Lana catches Lois, viewers (and Lois) notice that Lana is in a state of shock. Lois gives Lana advice on dealing with the "whole new side" of Clark- Lois tells Lana that she must ask herself if it changes the way Lana feels about Clark. Lana's not sure- Clark's secret was a very big one, but then again...
The second time around, Lana never found out about Clark. Lana isn't there to catch Lois, and Lois, water still running, falls from the stool. Clark finds her in a puddle of water unconscious and rescues her.

Answer: Lana puts her hand on Lex's shoulder, and Lex reaches over and touches her hand, then notices a ring on it, and says, "Looks like it's a bigger day than I thought."

Lex does feel, then see, Clark's power-made ring, and notice that Lana's engaged. The actual words "propose", "engage", "marry", etc. never are spoken- they aren't necessary. Lana tells Lex that there just wasn't time to tell anyone about "it", (notice that the actual word "engagement" never leaves her lips), because "it all happened so fast". Lex then makes a very true statement- she'd never say "yes" with all the doubts she had.

Although Lana says nothing about Clark and his secret other than "He isn't hiding anything", Lex realizes that Clark must have revealed himself to her. How else could she have ever said "yes"? Another answer choice of mine mentioned Lex kissing Lana, and Lana backing away.

This only happens when the day occurs a second time (after Clark has turned back time)- not the first time around.

Answer: Lana realizes that Lex is following her, and she tells Clark she's scared. Clark asks where she is, Lex begs Lana to talk, and Lana is hit by a bus...

Lana is hit by a bus just as Lex is screaming "Watch out!" Clark speeds over as soon as Lana's voice isn't on the other end of their cell phone conversation, but by then it's too late. He speeds over to see Lana's car totaled, and doesn't happen to car about secrecy after that moment. Lex sees Clark appear, and obviously realizes what he's seen, but the next moment is focused on Clark seeing Lana's dead body.

The school bus driver has stopped after seeing what he's done, and Clark is horrified by what he's let happen. Jonathan, who was driving by the scene of the accident on his way to meet Lionel, skids off the side of the road and runs over to Clark.

In a meaningful embrace, Jonathan tells Clark that there was nothing Clark could have done...

Answer: There is one more trial for Clark to go through, but there is only one crystal, so Clark must choose carefully. Clark has been warned...

Clark knows that someone, and not just anyone, but someone whom he loves, must die in exchange for his life. However, Clark doesn't think through his decision to use the crystal- he simply says to himself, "I have to save Lana," and takes the crystal without second thought.

However, if Clark hadn't done whatever he could to prevent Lana's death again, she, Lois, and his father would have died. Talk about devastation and feeling guilty for their deaths!

Answer: True

Interesting time choice, Jor-El. Did Lana really have to not know about Clark? Back to Lana. After saying this ("I think I need a break"), she starts to walk away. Clark just stares after her, unable to think of what to do or say. After a few moments, he asks, "A break from me?" "No," Lana replies. "A break from us." When told that he still could have told Lana his secret, Clark explains his reasoning for now feeling that he can never tell her. Lana knew who he truly was for less than a day, and she died! As long as Clark's alive, he reasons, someone will always be trying to figure out his secret.

However, Clark could have told Lana his secret, as viewers get to see within a few minutes. Lex and Lana still fight, Lana still tries to get away, Lex still follows, and Lana still is "supposed to" be hit by a bus, but this time Clark is there to stop it.

Interesting way for the writers to prove to the viewers that they'll never get the satisfaction of Lana finding out what Clark's hiding...

Answer: Kisses Lana

Lana doesn't pull away immediately, but she doesn't like the fact that he kissed her as soon as she's realized what's happened. Lex apologizes, but Lana says, "It's okay." She then says, "I'm just gonna leave now," and leaves Lex's study. Then Lex throws his glass into the fire in frustration, just as he did when Lana didn't reveal Clark's secret to him. Interesting...

Answer: Jonathan collapses, and they pick him up and bring him over to a bench, but Jonathan looks from Martha to Clark, smiling, and then dies...

After Jonathan smiles to express his love for his wife and "adopted" son, Jonathan becomes limp and unconscious. Martha screams into the night, wishing with all her might for Jonathan to not be dead, not now. Lionel is still in the barn, most likely forgotten. Viewers do see Lionel's hand pick up the crumpled piece of paper, though, which seems significant to future plot lines.

Answer: necklace

Clark helps his mother put on the same pearl necklace that Jonathan put on for her at Jonathan's own election party. This time, Martha is dressing for Jonathan's funeral. When this episode aired for the first time, the "major character" that would die in this 100th episode of "Smallville" was an extreme mystery- no one knew.

The most likely candidates were Chloe or Jonathan, though, followed by Lana. Chloe isn't a character in the "real" Superman universe, so it would make sense if she left. Jonathan already had a heart condition, and Clark doesn't really need his father anymore (besides the fact that Jonathan does actually die in other versions of Superman), so Jonathan dying wouldn't be a shock. Lastly, Lana would be the most devastating to Clark- the ideal candidate for Jor-El to punish Clark with.
