Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 'Chicago Hope', which of the following characters was NOT a doctor?

Answer: Alan Birch

Alan Birch (Peter MacNicol) was the hospital's legal adviser, who met a violent end when he was shot multiple times whilst on his way to a blind date. Shutt (Adam Arkin) was a brain surgeon, and Austin (Christine Lahti) was a heart specialist. Although Watters (Hector Elizondo) spent much of his time in his office, he sometimes ventured into the ER.

His response to 'Phillip, what are you doing here?' would be 'I'm a doctor!'
2. Dr. Legg ministered to the needs of the residents of Albert Square for many years, even before the series 'EastEnders' began in 1985. Do you recall his first name?

Answer: Harold

Leonard Fenton portrayed Dr. Harold Legg and it was implied from the start of the series that he'd been the local doctor for many years already. He made his first appearance in the first episode, and was a fixture for many years thereafter, though the gaps between 'house calls' grew longer as time went on.
3. George Vogelman, a client of 'The Practice', brought a severed head in his medical bag, to show to Ellenor Frutt. What type of doctor was George?

Answer: Podiatrist

Ellenor (Camryn Manheim) and Eugene Young (Steve Harris) successfully defended George (Michael Monks) in the ensuing trial for murder. This would, however, not be the last time that George was heard from in the series.
4. In 'M*A*S*H', the part of Dr. Borelli was portrayed in two episodes by the father of one of the regulars on the series. Which character did that regular play?

Answer: Hawkeye

Alan Alda's father, Robert Alda, appeared first as Borelli in 'The Consultant' in 1975, and again in 'Lend a Hand' in 1980. The latter episode also featured Antony Alda, Alan's (much) younger half-brother, son of Robert by his second wife.
5. After playing a veterinarian for many years, which actor went on to play Dr. Brendan McGuire in the UK series 'Doctors'?

Answer: Christopher Timothy

Christopher Timothy played everybody's favourite vet, James Herriot from 1978-1990 in 'All Creatures Great and Small' before switching to practice on people as 'Mac' McGuire on 'Doctors'. Hardy and Davison appeared in 'Creatures' as Siegfried and Tristan Farnon. Butcher was Dr. Marc Elliot in 'Doctors'.
6. Sister Grace Scott was a nurse with attitude in the Australian soap 'The Young Doctors', back in the 'seventies. The actress who played her seemed the perfect choice to host the Aussie version of 'The Weakest Link'. Who played the sharp-tongued Grace Scott?

Answer: Cornelia Frances

Cornelia Frances is a familiar face to fans of Australian soaps, having also appeared in 'Sons and Daughters', 'Home and Away' and 'Prisoner: Cell Block H'. The other choices have all played characters named Grace in other Australian shows. Bayly was Grace Sullivan in 'The Sullivans', Docker was Grace O'Connor in 'Home and Away' and Gill (a man) was Detective Inspector Jack Grace in 'Prisoner: Cell Block H'.
7. Nerys Hughes starred as 'The District Nurse' in the BBC series of the 1980s. Where did her character care for her patients?

Answer: Wales

Miss Hughes played Megan Roberts, nurse to mining communities in south Wales during the 1920s and 1930s. The series ran from 1984-87, and also featured Freddie Jones as Dr. Emlyn Isaacs.
8. Robert Young played 'Marcus Welby MD', and James Brolin was Dr. Steve Kiley, but can you remember who played their receptionist, Consuelo Lopez?

Answer: Elena Verdugo

Elena Verdugo's career began as a child in the early 1930s, and she compiled a long list of acting credits in movies and television, including guest appearances in 'Rawhide', 'Mannix' and many other programs. She reprised her role as Consuelo in the TV movie 'The Return of Marcus Welby MD' in 1984.
9. Which two medical programs each aired one part of the two-part episode 'Four Feet in the Morning' in November 1963?

Answer: 'Dr. Kildare' and 'The Eleventh Hour'

The 'Kildare' part aired first, on 21st November, with 'Hour' stars Jack Ging (as psychologist Paul Graham) and Ralph Bellamy (as psychiatrist Dr. Richard Starke) guest starring. Six nights later, Richard Chamberlain (Dr. James Kildare) and Raymond Massey (Dr. Leonard Gillespie) returned the favour, guest starring in the 'Hour' portion of the story.

Other guests in both segments were Andrew Duggan, Ruth Roman and Tony Dow (Wally in 'Leave it to Beaver').
10. Which actor from the BBC series 'Casualty' distinguished himself by winning 'Comic Relief Does Fame Academy' in 2003?

Answer: Will Mellor (receptionist Jack Vincent)

Will and Kwame both participated in the charity fund-raising version of 'Fame Academy', and though Kwame was quite simply the best singer of the entire group, he did not make the final. Instead, diamond in the rough Will went head to head with Ruby Wax, and emerged victorious.
