Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Doctor and his friends encountered quite a few robots and androids. One turned out to be an undercover detective robot. What was its name?

Answer: D84

D84 was a supposedly "dumb" or unspeaking, robot aboard the sandminer in "The Robots of Death". It helped the Doctor and Leela. SV7 was a super-voc in the same story, while K9 became a companion. Kamelion was also a companion for a time, but was too-easily influenced and sometimes caused problems.
2. There was a splendid pair of characters that helped the Doctor and Leela in one story. One man was a theatre manager, the other a pathologist. Who were they?

Answer: Lightfoot and Jago

Trevor Baxter played Professor Litefoot, while Christopher Benjamin played Henry Gordon Jago in "The Talons of Weng-Chiang". These two were wonderful, and the sight of the refined Lightfoot eating a joint of meat in his hands so as not to make Leela feel bad-mannered was priceless.

Reuben and Josh were two characters from "The Horror of Fang Rock", Andrews and Sullivan were the names of Ian Marter's two characters in the show, and Baker was the surname of two actors who played the Doctor, the surname of writers Pip and Jane, and also the name of the street where Sherlock Holmes lived. Holmes was Rober Holmes, who wrote the script of "Talons". Easy, right?
3. Professors seem to appear in the Doctor's adventures quite a lot, and most of them are benign... at least, until whatever the alien menace of the week is gets to them! Which of the following profs was never taken over by greed, alien menace or madness?

Answer: Professor Lightfoot

Professor Lightfoot, bless him, keeps his head and his mind and morals throughout his story, "The Talons of Weng Chiang".

Professor Kettlewell, from "Robot" has been up to no good because he wants funds, Professor Marius from "The Invisible Enemy" is taken over by The Nucleus, while Professor Sorenson becomes a large, lumbering antimatter man in "Planet of Evil".

Two of the profs, Marius and Sorenson, were played by the same actor.
4. K9 was the Doctor's helper and companion for several stories. Let's consider K9 #1. From whom did the Doctor obtain him, and with whom did he end up?

Answer: Professor Marius and Leela

K9 #1 was the companion/assistant of Professor Marius in "The Invisible Enemy". Eventually, he chose to stay behind on Gallifrey with Leela when she chose to marry Andred. Sarah and Romana both got to keep different versions of K9. K9 #2 stayed with Romana in E-Space, while K9 #3 was sent to Sarah.
5. A white witch helped the Doctor and Jo in one of their adventures. What was her name?

Answer: Miss Hawthorne

Miss Hawthorne, played wonderfully by Damaris Hayman, is the white witch who helps the Doctor and Jo in "The Daemons". Together, they take on the Master's latest plot, along with the Daemon Azal and the gargoyle Bok.
6. In "The Two Doctors", the Sixth Doctor gets some help from two old favourites. Who are they?

Answer: The Second Doctor and Jamie

In Seville the Sixth Doctor runs across the Androgums who have esoteric eating habits. The Second Doctor and Jamie get in on the act, leading to a very funny scene during which Patrick Troughton gets to ham it up as a quasi-Androgum.
7. In "The Green Death", the Doctor gets help from yet another Professor. What's this one's name?

Answer: Professor Jones

Professor Cliff Jones lives at "The Nut Hutch", a kind of commune. At first he isn't pleased to meet the Doctor and Jo, but in the end he's even less pleased to see Jo go- so she stays instead.
8. A character called Bellal helps The Doctor and Sarah in one of their stories. What race does he belong to?

Answer: Exxilon

Bellal, who appears in "Death to the Daleks", is an Exxilon. The Thals and Kaleds were mixed up with the Daleks in other stories, and the Vogans tangled with the Cybermen.
9. In which of the Fourth Doctor's stories did every cast member except the Doctor and his companion die?

Answer: The Horror of Fang Rock

In "The Horror of Fang Rock", the story opens with three men in a lighthouse; Ben, Reuben and Vince. The Doctor and Leela arrive, and Vince befriends them. Shortly afterwards, a boat is wrecked on the rock. The four survivors take shelter in the lighthouse where they are soon menaced by an alien called a Rutan.

By the end of the story everyone except the Doctor and Leela is dead - even the Rutan!
10. What unlikely ally did the Doctor have in "The Five Doctors"?

Answer: The Master

The Master and the Doctor briefly joined forces in this anniversary special. The uneasy alliance didn't last, of course!
