Daryl was driving down the road when it started to rain. Then the rain turned to heavy hail and he lost control of the car, sliding off the road and crashing. As the hail piled up on the ground, it was clearly shaped into little icy hearts!

Scully and Mulder stepped off the small plane and Mayor Gilmore and a young girl in a patriotically colored leotard emerged from behind a trailer. The girl put down a boom box and began dancing and twirling her baton as a sort of really pitiful welcoming ceremony. Scully turned to Mulder and reminded him, "Don't look at me.

This was your idea." Scully's displeasure only intensified when Gilmore told her that he believed Daryl was causing the drought so he could charge people for the rain.

Cindy had just caught on that the FBI was looking into Daryl's business and asked if they needed "a warrant or a subpoena or something like that." Scully told her that they "usually just say, 'please.'" After Scully suggested that Daryl was following rain rather than causing it, Cindy angrily handed over the client list in order to get rid of the agents.

Answer: "It's like looking in a mirror."

The Gundersons were the winners of the "Watch the Weather and Win" competition, but after Holman wished Scully and Mulder a "truly romantic getaway," Scully whipped out her badge and set them straight. Then the real Gundersons arrived and walked over to where the agents were standing with Holman and Sheila.

The Gundersons were shorter, fatter, and much, much plainer-looking than Scully and Mulder, but Mulder turned to Scully and said wryly, "It's like looking in a mirror." Scully seemed far less amused by the situation than was Mulder.

He used crutches to get to the tent and sat down, availing himself of the beer the townspeople had provided for him. Cindy walked up with a case, which contained a prosthetic leg and boot. Daryl wasn't happy with it, though, and sent her back to the truck to get the "red snakeskin" boot instead.

Daryl announced that he came "from a long line of healing people. I'm a spiritual man, in touch with the really real. The... the unseen real." Cindy started playing pop music on a tape player as Daryl continued: "And I am one 64th Cherokee and I can summon up my ancestors to bring water to this thirsty land." At that point, Scully stalked out from the tent and into the dry field, with Mulder following. Mulder tried to defend their presence by citing the historical precedent of rainmakers, but Scully shot back, "Mulder, that is not a rain dance. My Irish Aunt Olive has more Cherokee in her than Daryl Mootz. I mean, look at him, Mulder. Does that look like a man who can control the weather?" Of course, as soon as she'd said that, the skies opened and a drenching rain began to pour down!

Mulder was sitting on his bed reading articles about strange weather. He heard the storm get worse and went to the window. As Mulder watched, a cow in a field outside was lifted into the air. Mulder was confused at first, but jumped out of the way just in time to avoid the cow as it crashed through the ceiling and onto his bed.

Afterwards, the hotel manager told Scully that she'd moved her "boyfriend's things" into Scully's room. Scully, annoyed by the too-frequent reminders that she and Mulder were not a couple, informed the manager, "He's my partner, and we prefer separate rooms."

The local doctor who had come to tend to Mulder's minor wounds following the falling cow informed Holman and the agents that Daryl's car crash had not been caused by the hailstorm; "Daryl was drunk and driving too fast." Holman was surprised to hear that Daryl had been drunk, and the doctor explained, "We all felt that Daryl losing his leg was punishment enough." Once Holman realized that he hadn't caused the crash with the storm, he no longer felt guilty about the accident and the rain stopped following Daryl.

Mulder saw that "on the same day it rained rose petals" there was a notice that Holman's mother passed away. Mulder realized then that Holman's bottled up emotions were manifesting themselves in the strange weather.

Holman wanted Mulder to stay and help him, but Mulder told him that he had to go to the airport to catch his plane out of town. Just then, Scully called to tell Mulder that their "plane can't take off until after this fog lifts." Mulder correctly deduced that Holman was responsible for the fog, but couldn't do anything about it.

Mulder explained to Scully that Holman had caused the fog because "he wants advice. Dating advice." Scully asked, "Dating advice? From whom?" Mulder told her, "Yours truly." Scully fell completely silent on the other end of the phone line, and Mulder finally asked if she was still there. Pulled back to the conversation, Scully said, "I heard you. Mulder, when was the last time you went on a date?" Somewhat tersely, Mulder replied, "I will talk to you later" and hung up. Scully commented ruefully to herself, "The blind leading the blind."

Trying to be reassuring, Cindy tried to paint Daryl as a "tragic rock star" whose start shined "too bright for too short a time," but told him that they'd tell their "kids all about it." Clearly disgusted by the idea of children, Daryl pointed out the trouble he'd be in if he couldn't come up with a lot of money soon. Cindy assured him, "Dairy Queen will take me back. I get almost six dollars an hour." Daryl was at least smart enough to see that Cindy wasn't going to be able to support him, and he dumped her to go back to Sheila.

They were at the Kroner High School reunion when Holman told Sheila how he felt. Sheila, clearly stunned, ran to the bathroom. Scully followed her to try to talk her through her confusion. Sheila wasn't sure what to do because Holman had always been her "closest friend" and she'd never thought of him romantically. Scully reasoned, "Well, it seems to me that the best relationships, the ones that last, are frequently the ones that are rooted in friendship. You know, one day you look at the person and you see something more than you did the night before. Like a switch has been flicked somewhere. And the person who was just a friend is suddenly the only person you can ever imagine yourself with." This seemed to get through to Sheila, and just in time, since the storm drains were filling up and dirty water was pouring out of the sinks! Of course, all the "X-Files" fans watching were just teased by Scully's comforting words for Sheila, because we want her and Mulder to wake up and realize how perfect they are for one another!

They (presumably) married and had a child together. Even better, though, the future seemed to hold pretty idyllic weather conditions, complete with a rainbow ending in their backyard!
