Edgar is woken up by the sound of all the shooting in the video game. He runs to the living room to see Killian and Jimmy playing video games while Jimmy wears his army uniform. He questions Jimmy on why he is wearing it and Jimmy tells him that there was a veterans' discount at the diner that day and he was playing the role of an army veteran who is reunited with his son (Killian). Gretchen then walks in and gets mad at Jimmy for not waking her up for breakfast.

Lindsay walks into Jimmy's home after Gretchen and he interrupt Edgar while he tries to tell them a story of his war exploits. She then tells the gang that she had her jaw wired shut so that she doesn't put anything bad in her mouth. Gretchen then remarks that putting bad things in her mouth is kind of her thing.

She thanks Lindsay for driving her to work and then walks out with her. Edgar then tells Jimmy to take off his uniform.

Edgar is scheduled to speak at the dedication of a veteran's memorial which was made by Rumor Willis, in the show. After the unveiling of the memorial, Edgar is called on to give a speech. His speech turns out to be very intense and people are shown to be disinterested and so he is interrupted and pushed away from the microphone.

A band called Zig-Zags then starts playing their music which draws the crowd's attention much to Edgar's dismay.

Frustrated that people don't take him seriously, Edgar goes and takes a seat on a park bench. A man - who later in the show is revealed to be an actor - poses as a war veteran and takes a seat next to Edgar. He tells Edgar that he empathizes with the situation of veterans and then goes on to try to light a cigarette.

He is not able to do it as he has only one hand and suggests that he lost the other in the field. Failing to light his cigarette, he resigns to the fact that he has to learn to live with one hand for the rest of his life.

He invites Edgar to meet his troop mates saying that they'd love to hear his stories, which Edgar agrees to do.

Gretchen and Jimmy play a game of darts which Jimmy loses and has to do something of a sexual nature for Gretchen for a very long time. Jimmy then suggests they go to his place but Gretchen says that they should go to her place this time. Jimmy asks Gretchen if she actually has a place. Gretchen asks him whether he thinks she just materializes out of thin air whenever he wants. Jimmy then agrees after she givens him a talking down about how he wants people only in a certain way.

After being guilt tripped into coming to Gretchen's place, Jimmy sees the filthy mess that is her home and tells Gretchen that she is not human after she remarks that she is not much of cleaner. He takes a look around her place to find old food lying around.

He opens the fridge only to see a horrific sight. He then finds the bookstore manager's cat still with her and asks the cat if he missed books. They then settle down on the couch to watch something on Gretchen's laptop.

Edgar goes to the diner to meet the friends of the actor posing as a veteran. The actor introduces his friends to Edgar and one of the friends inadvertently makes a comment mentioning that Callard's character went to Juilliard after Edgar asks them about where they training camp was.

The actors then listen to Edgar narrate the story that he didn't complete at the event earlier in the day. Two women then walk up to Callard's character and ask for his autograph saying they are huge fans. He signs it for them with the arm he pretended to have lost at war.

The actors then come clean to Edgar about who they are and what they are doing. But in the end, Edgar storms out of the diner when they ask him to sign some kind of document.

Jimmy keeps complaining about what a disaster Gretchen's apartment is while they are in bed. Gretchen then tells Jimmy to go to his apartment if he wants to. They get into an argument about who wants who to leave but in the end Jimmy does leave back to his place. Gretchen then enjoys the extra space on her bed after Jimmy leaves.

Edgar, while waiting for his heroin dealer, sees someone driving up the road and jumps into the bushes. Lindsay sees him from her car and asks him a few questions. Gretchen goes to Jimmy's place to meet him and she sees him getting ready to leave somewhere. She asks him where he's off to and he tells her that he was coming to meet her. He then apologizes for sometimes being too set in his ways and that he should've invited her for breakfast that morning. Gretchen then admits that she was glad he left her place and that she was a little like him.
