Not only do Marth, Link, Fox, and all the other characters have shields which will prevent them from taking damage, but Marth can counter attacks, Link's shield stops small beams and items being thrown, and Fox can use his down B move to shoot back missiles.

This can be very helpful when fighting characters with long range attacks such as Samus since you have time to react and use your counter moves.

Answer: Super Mushroom

A new item to Melee, the Super Mushroom makes your character double their normal size. The counterpart mushroom, the Poison Mushroom, shrinks your character to about half their normal size.

If you hit the sandbag at least 1,323 feet, you will unlock Past Stages: Yoshi's Island. You can either do this with Yoshi's down A attack while in the air or with Roy. With Roy, use the up A smash until there is about four seconds and begin charging his B move. It will unleash and the bag will go flying.

After performing a smash attack, press A again and Link will do a follow up slash with his sword. This works with Young Link as well.

You play as Mario in Event Match 1 and must kill Bowser twice before he does the same to you. It doesn't take much to kill him, as the damage ratio is not too low. A simple tactic is to simply use smash attacks until he is defeated.
