Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first full-length mission placed the player's character, Private First-Class Joseph Allen, into direct combat in the Afghan war. Whilst doing a ride-through of town in a Hummer, the Americans were attacked by the opposing force. After defeating them, Joseph Allen was placed under the command of General Shepherd. What was the name of the organization and military group that Shepherd represented?

Answer: CIA and Task Force 141

The tutorial mission was where the player first saw General Shepherd. The General was looking for a troop to be on his special team. The full mission in Afghanistan started under a broken bridge. The player had to lay suppressive fire on the enemies firing from the other side.

The militants were also trying to ambush the bridge layer. After holding them off long enough, the player had to get into a Hummer and man the mini-gun up top. After a short drive through the town, the Americans were attacked by military insurgents. Joseph Allen, Sergeant Foley, and Corporal Dunn were all that remained to clear out a school in which the militants had fortified themselves.

After doing that and getting back into the hands of the US Military, Joseph Allen was put under the command of Shepherd.

Shepherd represented the CIA and a secret military group called "Task Force 141" which featured such members as Soap, from the first game, and new characters like Roach and Ghost.
2. While Private Joseph Allen was being re-assigned, Captain Soap MacTavish, the player's character from "Modern Warfare 1", and the new player controlled character, Roach, were at an icy enemy base trying to recapture a downed ACS Module. After acquiring it, the base went on full alert and began its pursuit of the two troops. After a short time on foot, the two soldiers found themselves in possession of a new mode of transport to speed up their escape. What kind of vehicle did the two soldiers steal from the enemies?

Answer: A snowmobile

The first part of the mission saw Roach and Soap climbing up a vertical ice-wall, just to reach the base. The second part saw Roach sneaking around the base solo, so he could plant C4 on a gas line at the base's airfield. An achievement could actually be unlocked by reaching the gas line without being spotted or harming any enemies.

The third part of the mission was where the ACS Module was collected. The base was alerted by the two troops so several soldiers held Soap hostage. By detonating the C4 on the airfield, the soldiers were distracted long enough for the two people to escape. Eventually, some snowmobile riding troops tried to stop Soap and Roach.

The snowmobilers were taken out and one of the snowmobiles were in the hands of the British troops. With the vehicle, the two soldiers escaped to their evac-chopper, not before jumping over a deep gorge.
3. The assignment that Joseph Allen was chosen for took him right behind enemy lines. In a mission, entitled "No Russian", the player was put into the shoes of Allen as he took on the role of Alexei Borodin. The player, Makarov and two other henchman shot up an airport and killed hundreds of people. Before concluding the mission, Allen was killed by Makarov. As Makarov fled, the American's corpse was left behind. Was there a reason why Makarov chose to kill Joseph Allen?

Answer: Yes

Makarov, working with intel from an inside source, knew that Allen was an American. After fighting through Russian police and reaching the escape area, Makarov shot Allen and left him to die in the airport. The reason was so the Russians would think that the United States attacked the airport and killed the civilians within.

As a result, the Russians would go to war with America. Makarov planned well and eventually got the results he wanted.
4. Upon learning of the death of Joseph Allen, Soap, Roach, and Ghost were sent to Brazil. The troops were given the task of capturing Rojas, a big-time criminal in Brazil. What was the importance of Rojas?

Answer: The shell-casings of the bullets in the massacred airport were his products.

The troops were sent to Brazil because of the bullets found at the airport. The rounds were commissioned by Rojas, so the team had to find out some answers from the man himself. The Brazil missions of the game, particularly the first one, were arguably the most difficult in the entire game.

The levels featured tight corners, open rooftops, and almost infinitely spawning enemy troops with superb accuracy. Making it through the missions, especially on hardcore and veteran difficulties, was an accomplishment indeed.
5. As a result of Makarov's slaying of the American operative, Russia invaded the United States in true "Red Dawn" fashion, with paratroopers and the works. Playing as Private James Ramirez of the US Army, the player's role was to defend the land of the free and the home of the brave. Which of the following things did the player NOT do during the American campaign of the game?

Answer: Steal some data from an enemy computer hidden deep within the Pentagon.

The first American mission saw the player defending a fast-food district from the Russians. By utilizing unmanned Predator Drones, unmanned machine gun turrets, and stinger missiles, the player had to defend a diner, and a burger joint from the pressing troops.

The second mission saw the player defending a Stryker called "Honey Badger". After defending it, the player and his fellow troops had to rescue an important person. Unfortunately, the man was dead by the time the troops got there. Afterwards, the player had to attack a Russian fortification in a government building, before escaping in a helicopter and crashing.

After crashing, holding off Russians, and witnessing an EMP burst, the player had to retake Whiskey Hotel. After the player reached the roof, they had to activate some green flares to signal allied helicopters.

After the green flares were lit, the American campaign in "Modern Warfare 2" concluded.
6. Intel from a captured criminal revealed to Soap, Roach and the other troops that Makarov had an enemy locked up in a Russian Gulag. Makarov almost certainly wanted his enemy eradicated. As a result, the troops and some massive back-up forces were sent to Russia to invade the Gulag and free the prisoner. The prisoner turned out to be Captain Price from the first game. With the building crumbling around them, how did the soldiers escape the prison?

Answer: The soldiers zip-lined up through a hole in the building.

The first part of the mission was on a helicopter. The player had to snipe some troops and prevent them from revealing some pretty massive AA guns. Afterwards, the player, as well as dozens of other US troops were landed in the centre of the prison yard. Fighting through the prison, the player's character(Roach), and Soap reached the prisoner, who turned out to be Captain Price.

The player was supposed to be under the impression that Price was dead at the end of the first game. As the soldiers tried to escape, the building began its collapse around them. With no other options available to them, Soap decided to send a flare up through a large hole in the building.

A helicopter sent down a rope and the three troops rappelled their way to freedom.
7. After freeing Captain Price, the troops were sent to a snowy enemy base. The main objective was to try and reach a submarine that had some critical weaponry within. Upon reaching the sub-bay, Captain Price decided to get onto the submarine. The weapons on the submarine were launched. Did the enemies launch the USA-bound weapons?

Answer: No

It turned out that Captain Price launched the missiles at the USA. The missiles were not nuclear, but rather, electro-magnetic in origin. By hitting the USA, the troops who were fighting the Russians could be on even ground. Without communications and technology working, the Russians would be just as vulnerable as the US troops were.

The missile launch was witnessed by the player in the perspective of an astronaut. Unfortunately, as the missile hit the USA, the astronaut was killed. The EMP burst worked just as Price had predicted. Without support for the Russians, the Americans staged some impressive assaults on their fortifications.
8. When Ghost and Roach reached Shepherd's evac-helicopter, with the downloaded data from Makarov's computer in hand, it turned out that Shepherd was a bad guy. Which of the following things did Shepherd NOT do to Roach or Ghost after acquiring the data from them?

Answer: Shepherd threw the soldiers' corpses off of a cliff.

The downloaded data turned out to contain some sensitive information to the General. That info would have linked him to Makarov. Not wanting to have his alliance with a known criminal made public, Shepherd tied up some loose ends, Ghost and Roach. Shepherd shot Roach in the stomach and took the data. Ghost tried to react, but he was too slow.

Shepherd shot him and killed him instantly. The two were thrown into a clearing and covered in gasoline. Ghost was dead, but Roach was still alive as Shepherd lit them up in flames.

The disturbing part was that after their deaths, Price and Soap tried to contact Ghost and Roach about Shepherd's betrayal. Had the two ill-fated troopers taken an extra minute to reach Shepherd, they might have survived to continue fighting the good fight.
9. Upon being betrayed by Shepherd, Soap and Price managed to escape from the troops attacking them. Using some of their acquired intel, the two troops landed at Shepherd's base of operations in Afghanistan. After taking out the base, the player and Captain Price had to pursue Shepherd. What kind of transport was used to pursue Shepherd?

Answer: A speedboat

After all of Shepherd's men in the base were killed, Shepherd attempted his big escape. Conveniently, there was one speedboat leftover for Price and Soap to use. The pursuit lasted some time, before Shepherd decided to get into a helicopter. The player had to keep the boat steady so Price could shoot down the chopper.

The chopper was eventually downed, but Soap and Price both ended up going down with the waterfall. The player's character was dazed by the fall. Regardless, the player had to find Shepherd and finish him off once and for all.
10. With only a knife in hand, a dazed Soap pursued an equally dazed General Shepherd. When the player tried to stab him, Shepherd used some self-defence to knock down the player. After knocking Soap down, Shepherd stabbed him in the chest. As Shepherd was getting ready to shoot Soap, Captain Price intervened. After a few minutes of fighting, Price was defeated by the General. With his remaining ounce of strength, Soap managed to kill Shepherd. How did Soap kill the General?

Answer: Soap threw the knife he was stabbed with right through Shepherd's left eye.

As the player was lying on the ground watching the events of the fight unfold, the player was prompted at one point to continuously press the action button. It quickly became obvious that the player had to pull the knife out of Soap's body. After removing the blade, a shaky aim reticule became visible. Once lined up, the player threw the knife at Shepherd. The knife ended up hitting him right between the eyes. One of the two main antagonists had finally been killed. Only Makarov remained. Despite being told not to go get them, Nikolai showed up to help Soap and Price. The two men led a badly wounded Soap to the helicopter before fading to black. The cliffhanger ending also left open the possibility for another sequel.

Thanks for playing!
