Question 1 of 10
1. Your first call of the day is to the scene of a liquor store robbery. A uniformed officer greets you to apprise you of the situation.

"Shortly after closing time, a guy broke in while the clerk was in the back counting cash. He had a mask on but the clerk said he could see the guy had a tie on," the officer states as he guides you to the side of the store, where there is a big gaping hole. "Here's the point of entry," he continues as he points at a large object nearby. "Think he threw this [pictured] through the window to get in."

"Oh yeah I've seen this M.O. before," you say as you write a name down in your notebook and tear the page out, handing it to the officer. "Find the last known address for this guy and bring him in for questioning. 99%, he's our guy."

Who's your top suspect in this robbery?

Question 2 of 10
2. Another call about a robbery brings you to a jewellery store. The frantic store owner flags you down as soon as you arrive in front of the store.

"Detective! Thank goodness you're here! You have to catch the guy who did this, please!"

"Ok ma'am, let's stay calm," you say as you take out your notebook. "Can you give me a detailed description of the guy?"

"Oh um not really. I didn't get a very good look, it happened so quickly. He was an average guy... well average but with spiky hair. Oh and he was blue. But other than that, average."

'Blue?' you think to yourself, writing it down. "Ok, and did he take much?"

"Well he ran around the store grabbing all our gold rings. But then when he went to leave, he tore out of here so fast, he ran into the door and dropped most of the rings. He took off after that."

Who do you think your probable thief is at this robbery?
Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. There's a serial kidnapper on the loose and since you're the only one on the police force with any training in criminal profiling, you've been called in to consult.

"He leaves this message [pictured] on the wall at every crime scene. We call him The Catcher. We don't have much to go on for a profile, but a witness at one of the scenes did see the unsub use some kind of weird ball to lure in his victim," the officer in charge of the investigation explains to you.

"What about victimology?" you ask. "Who's he taking?"

"Let's see, so far he's gotten over a hundred. Let me find the most recent names..."

Which of these is the most likely one of the kidnapping victims?
Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. You're driving along when your police radio starts crackling.

"Any and all available units, we have reports of erratic driving and gang activity in Los Santos, San Andreas. Requesting back up from other jurisdictions if you're in the surrounding area."

You have some time so you turn on your siren and hang a hard right, speeding off to Los Santos. Looks like you've just been called to a scene from which video game franchise?
Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. You've been called to what looks like a kidnapping. You ask the first officer on the scene for details.

"We got a call about a domestic disturbance but when my partner and I got here, there was no one home," he explains. "There were clear signs of a struggle."

"Do we know who the vic is?" you ask.

"Not her name. We've asked the neighbours and no one really knows her, but they've described her as blonde, always wear a pink dress."

"Well that's helpful. Any clues around?" you ask.

"We found a small crown on the floor with blonde hairs in it, probably hers. And her cell phone was next to it [pictured]. Looks like she was trying to contact someone for help."

You read the unfinished text message on the phone and suddenly you know what happened. "This one's out of our jurisdiction, guys. We have to put in a call to a plumber."

The officers are perplexed but you're not. Who was kidnapped at this scene?
Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. "Hey, Detective!" It's a young officer getting your attention. "We've got a lead on that serial arsonist we've been tracking. A witness who saw the last fire called the tip line."

"Yeah? They sound credible?" you ask.

"I think so. Guy said he saw a purple dragon breathe fire onto the building and it went up in flames."

"Hmm. I've dealt with a purple dragon before. He was just a little punk kid then, but yeah I could see the leap to arson. Let's go track him down."

Who are you after?
Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Now you've been called to the scene of a suspicious death. Upon your arrival, you flag down one of the officers interviewing witnesses.

"So where's the body?" you ask.

"Coroner took it already, but the chalk outline is just over there [pictured]," the officer points.

"Ok. Anything from the witnesses?"

"Yes, this lady over here says she sees the victim all the time, running around the streets very erratically, chased by four colourful guys."

"Could be our prime suspects. What'd the coroner say?"

"She said she saw signs of poisoining. She's starting the post-mortem right away, full tox screen."

"Good," you say. "I want a full report on the stomach contents, too. The easiest way to poison someone is to poison what they eat."

What do you think the coroner will find when she checks the victim's stomach contents?
Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. You've been working on a puzzling case of a mysterious creature who inhales big objects and spits them out at random victims; sometimes he just swallows the victim whole. There have also been complaints of terrible singing coming from him. You may have finally caught a break; you have a witness who has agreed to sit down with a sketch artist.

"Here's the sketch, Detective!" an officer brings it [pictured] to you.

"This is it?" you ask incredulously. "Our sketch artist drew this?"

The officer hesitates. "Kind of. The chief's four year old drew it."

"Well let's get it out to the press. Let's not hold our breaths though. This could be anyone."

Who is your perpetrator in this case?
Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. You're in your office when the phone rings. You answer.

"Hi, is this the ACME Detective Agency?" the caller asks.

"Uh, no. Sorry it's not. But I am a detective," you say.

"Well I'd like to report that I've spotted your most wanted suspect. She was wearing the red hat and everything."

"Where did you see her?" you ask, wondering who is the most wanted suspect of the ACME Detective Agency.

"In Italy. She and her henchmen were trying to steal the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel."

"Right. Ok, well thanks for calling, ma'am. I'll check that out."

It may sound like the caller is crazy but she's talking about which thieving game character?
Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. There's been a string of vicious beatings. Your colleague is updating you on the situation.

"The hospital has reported several more beating victims. They've seen all kinds of guys come through... Pikachu, Link, Jigglypuff, Mario and Luigi. A bunch more."

"And what kind of info did we get from the vics? They know who did it?" you ask.

"We got nothing from them. We think they're part of some of underground fight club, but we can't get them to talk about it. If that's the case, it's probably the fight club boss delivering the beatings," your colleague explains.

"Any physical evidence then?"

"All we've got is this print [pictured]. That's literally all he leaves behind."

What video game series do you think these crimes originated in?
Hint

"Find the last known address for this guy and bring him in for questioning. 99%, he's our guy." Who's your top suspect in this robbery?

Answer: Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong, the large ape first seen in the 1981 Nintendo arcade game "Donkey Kong", is typically pictured wearing a red necktie that says DK on it in yellow. He and his fellow Kongs (such as son Donkey Kong, Jr. among other relatives) are also known for throwing barrels. DK is one of Nintendo's most popular and well recognized characters and has been featured in many games over the years, including games like "Super Smash Bros." in addition to his own series.
2. Another call about a robbery brings you to a jewellery store. The frantic store owner flags you down as soon as you arrive in front of the store. "Detective! Thank goodness you're here! But then when he went to leave, he tore out of here so fast, he ran into the door and dropped most of the rings. He took off after that." Who do you think your probable thief is at this robbery?

Answer: Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog is the main character in the "Sonic" games and is one of Sega's most recognizable characters. In 2005, he was included in the first group of video game characters to be named to the 'Walk of Game' (like the Hollywood Walk of Fame). He was also the first video game character to be featured as a balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving parade.

Aside from a very brief appearance in the arcade game "Rad Mobile", Sonic made his real debut in 1991's "Sonic the Hedgehog". In the game, Sonic, who is known for his speed, races around different zones, beating bosses to get to the final round to take on Dr. Robotnik. He collects gold rings which help him sustain damage or prevent his death when he is attacked or crashes into something. He loses most if not all the rings in his possession when this happens though and has to start collecting again.
3. There's a serial kidnapper on the loose and since you're the only one on the police force with any training in criminal profiling, you've been called in to consult. "He leaves this message [pictured] on the wall at every crime scene. We call him The Catcher. "What about victimology?" you ask. "Who's he taking?" "Let's see, so far he's gotten over a hundred. Let me find the most recent names..." Which of these is the most likely one of the kidnapping victims?

Answer: Squirtle

This crime involves elements from "Pokemon" games. A goal of the would-be Pokemon Master is to capture and train the Pokemon characters, of which Squirtle (a cute little turtle-like guy) is one. "Gotta 'catch em all" is a catchphrase of the "Pokemon" franchise, which includes a TV anime and feature films in addition to the video games.

The first "Pokemon" video games were released in 1996, first in Japan as "Pocket Monsters Red" and "Pocket Monsters Green", and then internationally under the titles "Pokemon Red" and "Pokemon Blue". The "Red" and "Blue" are separate games but are played the same, and it is necessary to use both games to collect the full set of Pokemon. There have been many more "Pokemon" games released since then; the franchise is owned by Nintendo.
4. You're driving along when your police radio starts crackling. "Any and all available units, we have reports of erratic driving and gang activity in Los Santos, San Andreas. Requesting back up from other jurisdictions if you're in the surrounding area." You have some time so you turn on your siren and hang a hard right, speeding off to Los Santos. Looks like you've just been called to a scene from which video game franchise?

Answer: Grand Theft Auto

The "Grand Theft Auto" games feature content not suitable for kids; most of the games have received M for Mature ratings in most countries. The particular game referred to in the question, "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" (2004) was briefly rated Adults Only in the US and was banned outright in Australia due to a software patch released by a computer expert which players could install to view/engage in sex scenes in the game.

The game, the eighth overall among all "Grand Theft Auto" titles was a sequel to the 2002 game "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City". "San Andreas" took place in the fictional state of San Andreas; the Los Santos referred to in the question was one of the cities in the fictional state, modeled after Los Angeles.
5. You've been called to what looks like a kidnapping. You ask the first officer on the scene for details. "We got a call about a domestic disturbance but when my partner and I got here, there was no one home," he explains. "There were clear signs of a struggle." "Do we know who the vic is?" you ask. You read the unfinished text message on the phone and suddenly you know what happened. "This one's out of our jurisdiction, guys. We have to put in a call to a plumber." The officers are perplexed but you're not. Who was kidnapped at this scene?

Answer: Princess Peach

Princess Peach is a Nintendo character from the "Mario" series of games. She first appeared in "Super Mario Bros." in 1985, though in this game she was referred to as Princess Toadstool. She was endangered by the series' main villain, Bowser (the B referred to in the text message), in "Super Mario Bros." and several times thereafter. Mario has to rescue her.

Though she's typically the damsel in distress, Peach is a playable character in several games, such as "Mario Kart", and stars in her game called "Super Princess Peach" (2005). In this game, Bowser kidnaps Mario and his friends, and Peach has to rescue them.
6. "Hey, Detective!" It's a young officer getting your attention. "We've got a lead on that serial arsonist we've been tracking. A witness who saw the last fire called the tip line." "Yeah? They sound credible?" you ask. "I think so. Guy said he saw a purple dragon breathe fire onto the building and it went up in flames." "Hmm. I've dealt with a purple dragon before. He was just a little punk kid then, but yeah I could see the leap to arson. Let's go track him down." Who are you after?

Answer: Spyro

Spyro the Dragon is the hero of the "Spryo" series of games. He first appeared in the 1998 game "Spyro the Dragon", which was followed by several other games. The series was reinitiated in 2006 as "The Legend of Spyro" and again in 2011 as the "Skylanders" series. The original few games were developed for Playstation but the subsequent games have since been released on several platforms.

In the original series, Spryo is a young purple dragon, sometimes portrayed as a bit of a brat, who has the ability to breathe fire. In most games, he also has the ability to breathe ice, among other things.
7. Now you've been called to the scene of a suspicious death. Upon your arrival, you flag down one of the officers interviewing witnesses. "So where's the body?" you ask. "Coroner took it already, but the chalk outline is just over there [pictured]," the officer points. "Ok. Anything from the witnesses?" "Yes, this lady over here says she sees the victim all the time, running around the streets very erratically, chased by four colourful guys." "Could be our prime suspects. What'd the coroner say?" "She said she saw signs of poisoining. She's starting the post-mortem right away, full tox screen." "Good," you say. "I want a full report on the stomach contents, too. The easiest way to poison someone is to poison what they eat." What do you think the coroner will find when she checks the victim's stomach contents?

Answer: Dots

The victim is Pac-Man and he eats dots (as well as the odd piece of fruit as a bonus item). Pac-Man first appeared in 1980 arcade game "Pac-Man". In each level of the game, Pac-Man must run around a maze eating all the pac-dots (or pellets), while avoiding his enemies, the four coloured ghosts; Pac-Man dies if a ghost touches him.

The "Pac-Man" franchise has been one of the most popular and successful game series of all-time. The original arcade game spawned many sequels, as well as other media featuring the characters. Though pictured here as the 2D representation of Pac-Man used in the original game, Pac-Man has also appeared as a more complete 3D character in other games.
"Our sketch artist drew this?" The officer hesitates. "Kind of. The chief's four year old drew it." "Well let's get it out to the press. Let's not hold our breaths though. This could be anyone." Who is your perpetrator in this case?

Answer: Kirby

Kirby, the pink puffball (as he can best be described) is a Nintendo character who first appeared in the 1992 game "Kirby's Dream Land". He has appeared in many games since then. The 'sketch' here is a general likeness but by no means exact. He also has arms and more facial features.

Kirby's main move to attack and defeat his enemies involves his ability to inhale large objects. He can them spit the object out at his enemy, or he can simply inhale and swallow the enemy himself. In some cases, swallowing the enemy gives Kirby the enemy's abilities and powers. Kirby is also known for his love of singing, but no one around him enjoys his singing; he has been known to defeat enemies just by singing.
9. You're in your office when the phone rings. You answer. "Hi, is this the ACME Detective Agency?" the caller asks. "Uh, no. Sorry it's not. But I am a detective," you say. "Well I'd like to report that I've spotted your most wanted suspect. She was wearing the red hat and everything." "Where did you see her?" you ask, wondering who is the most wanted suspect of the ACME Detective Agency. "In Italy. She and her henchmen were trying to steal the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel." "Right. Ok, well thanks for calling, ma'am. I'll check that out." It may sound like the caller is crazy but she's talking about which thieving game character?

Answer: Carmen Sandiego

Carmen Sandiego is the main villain in the "Carmen Sandiego" series of games, mostly PC games, that started with the 1985 game "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" Most of the games follow the same general plot; the player must find and arrest Carmen's henchmen before going after Carmen herself. The henchmen (and henchwomen) tend to have punny names, such as Anita Bath or Rob M. Blind.

Carmen and her accomplices are members of the V.I.L.E. criminal organization, while the player trying to catch them is doing so on behalf of the ACME Detective Agency. In some versions of her backstory, Carmen used to work for ACME. The crimes committed by the V.I.L.E. members are very impressive; they are somehow able to steal landmarks, unimaginable quantities of something (such as all the water from a river) or even things that can't be physically taken (such as the steps to the tango).
10. There's been a string of vicious beatings. Your colleague is updating you on the situation. "The hospital has reported several more beating victims. They've seen all kinds of guys come through... Pikachu, Link, Jigglypuff, Mario and Luigi. A bunch more." "And what kind of info did we get from the vics? They know who did it?" you ask. "We got nothing from them. We think they're part of some of underground fight club, but we can't get them to talk about it. If that's the case, it's probably the fight club boss delivering the beatings," your colleague explains. "Any physical evidence then?" "All we've got is this print [pictured]. That's literally all he leaves behind." What video game series do you think these crimes originated in?

Answer: Super Smash Bros.

The "Super Smash Bros." series features several Nintendo game characters (and the occasional non-Nintendo character) who take each other on in battles. The first game, "Super Smash Bros." was released in 1999 on Nintendo 64. It was followed by "Super Smash Bros. Melee" for GameCube in 2001 and "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" for the Wii in 2008.

Master Hand, literally just a big right hand, is portrayed as the creator of the "Smash Bros." universe and is the final boss to beat when playing in one-player mode. His left-hand partner, Crazy Hand, was introduced in "Melee".
