Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Bob-ombs
Answer: Super Mario Bros. 2
Bob-Ombs are a type of bomb that can be first found in "Super Mario Bros. 2" (World 1-1). They move around and after a certain length of time explode, killing everyone (friend and foe alike) in its vicinity. These bombs can be found dropping from the sky or shooting from cannons. Sometimes, Mario can even jump on them and carry them for a short, making it easier to use on his enemies.
2. Boos
Answer: Super Mario Bros. 3
Boos are ghosts first appearing in "Super Mario Bros. 3", in the Castle of World 2. They are almost always white, but on the rare occasion, other colors of Boos are seen. Whenever Mario is looking at them, they don't move and cover their eyes. However, when Mario doesn't look at them, they attack Mario. Boos are often found in dark places like castles or forests due to their sensitivity to light.
3. Bowser
Answer: Super Mario Bros. 1
Bowser is Mario's main enemy first introduced in "Super Mario Bros. 1" (World 8-4, although fake Bowsers are seen earlier). He is in love with Princess Peach and usually kidnaps her leaving up to Mario and Luigi to rescue her.
4. Clawgrip
Answer: Super Mario Bros. 2
Clawgrip made its debut appearance in "Super Mario Bros. 2" (World 5-3). After defeating Birdo, Mario must now face a crab named Clawgrip. It throws rocks at Mario trying to hurt him, but Mario can grab them and throw it back at Clawgrip. If Mario throws enough at him, then he is defeated.
5. Chain Chomps
Answer: Super Mario Bros. 3
Chain Chomps first appeared in World 2-5 of "Super Mario Bros. 3". Their physical appearance resembles a ball and chain. Some are attached to blocks while others can move freely. Those that move freely usually try to attack Mario. Additionally, if Mario spends too much time trying to get past a chained Chain Chomp, then it will break loose.
6. Goombas
Answer: Super Mario Bros. 1
A goomba is the first enemy Mario ever faces in "Super Mario Bros. 1" (World 1-1) and is one of the most recognizable enemies in the franchise and one of the easiest to defeat, since all Mario has to do is stomp on them. They are also variations of goombas that appeared in later games, such as the flying goomba.
7. Hammer Brothers
Answer: Super Mario Bros. 1
The Hammer Brothers, usually appearing in pairs, first appeared in "Super Mario Bros. 1" (World 3-1). They throw either hammers or in some games, boomerangs. If they were found near rows of bricks, then they would jump up or down between the various rows. Also, if Mario spends too long trying to get past them, then they would start following Mario.
8. Lakitu
Answer: Super Mario Bros. 1
First appearing in "Super Mario Bros. 1" (World 4-1), Lakitus are a type of Koopa that ride clouds and drop spiny creatures. In some games, if a Lakitu is defeated, Mario can ride the cloud. Other times, the cloud also disappears. There are other games, such as racing games, in which Lakitus are friendly towards Mario.
9. Phanto
Answer: Super Mario Bros. 2
Phanto, who first appeared in "Super Mario Bros. 2" (World 1-2), is a mask that attacks whoever tries to pick up a key that unlocks a door. Whenever someone drops a key or puts it into a lock, Phanto stops attacking.
10. Tryclyde
Answer: Super Mario Bros. 2
Tryclyde made its debut in "Super Mario Bros. 2" (World 2-3). As the name implies, they have three heads with each one shooting fireballs at Mario. It is up to Mario to throw blocks at Tryclyde in order to defeat him.
