The first tank you see displayed when you start the game is Deep-Sea Farm, which, true to its name, offers you the chance to decorate your aquarium with haystacks, farm buildings, agricultural implements, etc. The other choices are Evergreen Oasis (Egyptian theme), Kingdom of Poseidon (mermaid theme) and Underwater Paradise (themed with a variety of aquatic animals, including alligator, hippopotamus, shark, dolphin and octopus).

Comfort items include heat, light, aeration, filters and food - obviously important for the survival of your fish! Each type of tank has a variety of fish from which to choose. My personal favorite is the red seahorse (available in Underwater Paradise and Kingdom of Poseidon tanks), but the turtle whose image graces the opening screen of the game is also a nice choice (available in all tanks except Evergreen Oasis, which offers a blue-green Sea Dragon instead).

There are three levels of achievement: bronze cup, silver cup and gold cup. To reach each cup, you need to make purchases to reach a predetermined number of points awarded for each of the three categories at that level. You can purchase beyond the minimum in one category, but don't proceed to the next level (which has a cup bonus meaning you can collect money faster as you play the matching game) until all three have reached the required level. I actually like to purchase all the comfort items at the very start, because some of them are quite bulky, and having them in place helps me decide where I want to place everything else.

By the way, the points for purchases only require that you buy them - the game doesn't care how you arrange them. If you are pleased with the effect you have created in a tank, you can take a snapshot of it and add it to your photo album for easy viewing.

You can only purchase one of each Comfort item. Beauty and Fish do allow multiple purchases, but progress is faster if you purchase a variety. You can reach gold cup level in fish with the fewest fish by purchasing two of each type. In Beauty, the larger and gaudier items, which are also the most expensive ones, give faster progress, but only when you include variety. Repeatedly buying the same item, even the most expensive one, makes the progress slow down dramatically. Just to see if I could, I filled one tank with only my favorite plant - by the time the tank reached a gold cup, they were packed so densely that you couldn't distinguish the individual plants!

Periodically you are presented with a mini-game challenging you to find ten gems that have been strewn around the tank. The first few times, your reward for completing the bonus level is a funny-looking pink and purple jellyfish; after that you just get $500. You can also collect gems between matching games - there will occasionally be one or two in view, and they give a small amount of money when collected.

Each game screen has a selection of the available tile types, they do not all appear in every game. They include a pink starfish, a green turtle, a blue jellyfish, a white clam shell, a red lobster, a brown steering wheel and a yellow diver's helmet. Each of these becomes animated if you click its tile and pause to think about where you plan to move it, as if it is drawing your attention to the fact that you haven't yet completed the move.

When you finish the level, the screen contains only blue background tiles, and the symbols seem to be floating in water. As well as the yellow tiles, which turn blue when they are cleared, there are some that are silver - these need to be matched once to turn yellow, then again to go blue. Tiles with a chain on them cannot be moved - you need to move the matching tiles to them, and tiles with a double chain need to be matched twice before they are free to move.

Line up five similar tiles, and you get a mine. They may be in a straight line, or in an L or T shape. The mine can be detonated by swapping it with an adjacent tile, or by double-clicking it. The choice depends on where you want it to be at the moment of explosion, as that is the centre of the area which it will clear - they have a two-tile radius. If you line up six tiles, you get dynamite, with a three-tile radius; seven tiles earns a large explosive device that clears an even larger area - if you can use one of them, most of the tiles on the screen get affected.

Less powerful is the firecracker, with a one-tile explosive radius. These appear when five tiles line up 'accidentally' during a cascade started by either a matching swap or an explosion.

Answer: Clear all of any tile type currently on the board

When you swap the lightning tile with any other tile, all of the tiles of that type will be zapped. This can be very useful in some board configurations, where tiles that need to be cleared cannot have others moved to be adjacent to them. If that is not an issue, you can select the type that appears most often, since that will yield the most points.

It may be necessary to set up matches that will manipulate the desired tile to be adjacent to the lightning.

Aside from the fact that there is nothing to keep you from adding more decorations even after you have received a gold cup, you can also purchase new tanks endlessly. It keeps the process fresh to set yourself different challenges - getting gold with only one type of fish, or only using one kind of decoration, for example.

It takes a lot longer, but then once you have a few dozen tanks under your belt, there doesn't really seem to be much of a rush about the whole thing.
