Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Carapaced arachnid

Answer: Scorpion

The Scorpion is a human-constructed heavy tank capable of holding five people; a driver/gunner inside and four marines outside, all of whom can shoot with their regular weapons. Used sparsely in the campaign, it's probably the strongest of all human vehicles; the equivalent Covenant vehicle would be the Wraith, a plasma-firing heavy tank capable of taking out almost any other vehicle in a single shot. Fortunately, the lobbed plasma shots move slowly, so evasion should be straightforward.

The only other human vehicle is the Warthog, a jeep-like ride with a turret in back.
2. Jabber

Answer: Needler

The Needler is a Covenant weapon capable of firing sharpened points of plasma at enemies in quick succession. The needles load into the gun and are visible out the top. When fired they arc towards the target, piercing the skin and then exploding to cause further damage.

These weapons are typically only carried by lower units though they can be seen in the hands of other enemies. Needlers get a much-deserved upgrade in "Halo 2" to do more damage. Other Covenant weapons include the Plasma Rifle and Plasma Pistol.
3. Biblical-scale water disaster

Answer: The Flood

The Flood is a group of parasitic entities residing deep within the Halo emerging to feast on other lifeforms and propagate throughout the galaxy. Although the humans believe that the Halo is meant to destroy these creatures (or can be used for such a purpose), this is only a half-truth.

They later discover that the Halo only kills off The Flood by killing off its food source-- any living thing in the galaxy. The Flood only appears in the latter half of the game. They're capable of striking with physical attacks but they are also known to use human-made weapons.
4. Commanding leader

Answer: Master Chief

Master Chief, also known as Spartan John-117, is the playable character in the majority of "Halo" games including the very first one. A super-soldier (to say the least), he's capable of using virtually any weapon and piloting nearly any vehicle provided he's seen it or encountered it at some point or another...or so it seems. Provided you reach the end of the game, Master Chief also happens to be one of the only survivors of the 'incident' in the game's plot. Literature developed after the release of the first game outlines the fates of other human survivors on the first Halo.
5. One pointer finger

Answer: The Index

An important plot device in the latter half of the game, Master Chief heads to the Flood-overrun Library to collect The Index, a physical key containing passwords, codes, and access to the Halo's controls during the seventh level of the game. Once it's collected, he returns to the Control Room to use the device but Cortana discovers that it activates the Halo (not a good thing). Upon this discovery, 343 Guilty Spark will turn on you; Master Chief will have to make his way backward in the Two Betrayals mission to destroy the Phase Pulse Generators and buy time.
6. Shrieking ghost

Answer: Banshee

Also known as a Type-26 Ground Support Aircraft, the Banshee is a Covenant air vehicle known for being a nuisance. Aside from regular guns, the Banshee can also fire off a plasma shot to blast foes though it has a recharge time. Banshees are only found in open stages on the Halo itself, never in narrow corridors because they need open air to fly.

They can only be piloted by Elites and, if they're free, Master Chief. Enough shots with any weapon or grenade and you can knock one out of the sky.
7. Vicious attack atop the command space

Answer: Assault on the Control Room

The fifth level of the game, Assault on the Control Room is perhaps one of the longest in terms of the stage's physical length-- you start at one end of a snowy base on the Installation 04 Halo and cross to the Control Room on the opposite end. The trip takes you through many narrow canyons populated by Covenant forces, some in Wraiths, Ghosts, and Banshees. You revisit this area in the eighth level of the game, Two Betrayals, when you're forced to work your way backwards from the Control Room to a location near the start.

This stage of the game is completed at nighttime with both Covenant and the Flood.
8. Annoyed noise

Answer: Grunt

Known as the Unggoy, Grunts are small Covenant forces, the weakest in the game, who are essentially the foot soldiers of the enemy. These foes wield both guns and grenades and never stray from using plasma weapons; they'll typically only carry Plasma Pistols and Needlers in combat while larger enemies will wield Plasma Rifles. Later in the game you may find some with Fuel Rod Cannons. Grunts are odd creatures; sometimes you can find them dancing and some you can ambush while they're sleeping, curled up on the ground.

They also tend to be skittish. If surprised during a patrol they may let out a sound of surprise and alarm, flee, or just open fire.
9. Missile lobber

Answer: Rocket Launcher

The M19 SSM Rocket Launcher (or the SPNKr) is the highest-powered human gun in the game due to its ability to shoot exploding projectiles at enemy targets. They are especially effective against armored vehicles including Wraiths and Banshees though they can also be used to wipe out small groups of enemies in a single shot.

Although they can be found on the ground in interesting spots throughout the game (or in armories) they are also carried by some Flood foes and can be used against you.
10. Fall-time monolith

Answer: Pillar of Autumn

The Pillar of Autumn is the first stage of the game and it's a location visited in the last stage as well. For this level, the Master Chief must escape the ship as it's being attacked by Covenant forces. After this, the Pillar of Autumn crash-lands somewhere on the Halo while the human forces are scattered about having landed in dropships and escape capsules. Master Chief and Cortana return to the ship late on in the game to activate its self-destruct sequence and destroy the Halo, preventing the Flood from spreading through the galaxy.

This leads to a climactic fight against the parasites and a daring escape in a Warthog.
