Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Larvitar
Answer: Tyranitar
Larvitar is a rock/ground-type Pokémon. It has greenish-grey skin, with a spike on its head, and eye markings that make it look permanently angry. It first evolves into Pupitar, which is a curious pupa-like creature that resembles a spikey rock with eyes. Pupitar then evolves into Tyranitar, which is a large dinosaur-like creature with spines on its head, back and tail.
2. Croconaw
Answer: Feraligatr
Croconaw starts off as Totodile, a water-type Pokémon which looks like a small bluish crocodile. Croconaw itself looks rather more like a chubby tyrannosaur-type dinosaur, with sharp fangs and a red spiny crest on its head and down its back. Its final evolutionary form is Feraligatr, which is an even more menacing and powerful incarnation.
3. Chikorita
Answer: Meganium
Chikorita is a small, green grass-type Pokémon with large eyes, small green buds around its neck, and an enormous green leaf growing out of its head. In its next evolution, Bayleef, the neck-buds have developed into curled-up leaves, and the head-leaf looks more like a type of blade.
Its third evolutionary form is Meganium, in which the neck-leaves have turned into pink flower petals, and the head-leaf has been replaced by twin antennae.
4. Flaaffy
Answer: Ampharos
Flaaffy is an electric-type Pokémon, which is coloured pink and has a sheep-like fleece over its head and round its neck. It evolves from Mareep, which is an even more sheep-like creature, except for its black-and-yellow striped ears and tail. Flaaffy's next evolution is into Ampharos, which has lost all its wool completely and hardly looks sheep-like at all. All three evolutions have a red ball on the tip of their tails.
5. Cyndaquil
Answer: Typhlosion
Cyndaquil is a fire-type Pokémon, with a bluish back, cream underside, and a long snout. When threatened or otherwise provoked, flames will erupt out of its back. It evolves first into Quilava (which shoots flames out of its head as well) and then into Typhlosion (which has even more devastating pyrotechnical abilities).
6. Jigglypuff
Answer: Wigglytuff
Jigglypuff is a round, pale purple Pokémon with big eyes and a peculiar curl of hair across its forehead. It has a habit of "singing" a strange melody which usually sends its listeners to sleep. Jigglypuff evolves from Igglybuff, a small even more spherical creature.
In turn, it then evolves into Wigglytuff, a particularly furry creature which is capable of inflating its body to enormous size.
7. Pichu
Answer: Pikachu
Pichu is a small, pale yellow electric-type Pokémon with big ears. It evolves into Pikachu, which is possibly the best-known of all Pokémon, and one which even non-aficionados of the games will recognise. Relative to its size, Pikachu's ears are smaller than Pichu's, and has a larger tail which is shaped a little like a lightning-bolt. Pikachu is capable of evolving further, into two different types of Raichu.
8. Squirtle
Answer: Blastoise
Squirtle is a water-type Pokémon and takes the form of a pale blue turtle-like creature which defends itself by squirting water at its attacker (hence its portmanteau-style name). It evolves first into Wartortle and then into Blastoise, which is much bigger and fiercer.
Instead of simply squirting out of its mouth, Blastoise has a pair of powerful water-cannon which can be extended from underneath its shell. Its name is derived from "blast" and "tortoise".
9. Charmander
Answer: Charmeleon
Charmander is a fire-type Pokémon. It is an orange lizard-like creature with a flame burning at the tip of its tail. It evolves into Charmeleon, which is larger, redder, and fiercer, with a horn-like growth starting to sprout out of its head. If you think that's bad, wait until you see its next evolution, named Charizard.
This has now grown to a huge size, with dragon-like wings and a second horn on its head. It still has Charmander's fiery tail, connecting it to its earliest form.
10. Bulbasaur
Answer: Venusaur
Bulbasaur is described as a Seed Pokémon and is a blue/green-coloured quadruped. It evolves first into Ivysaur and then into Venusaur. Bulbasaur has a bulb-shaped growth on its back, which becomes a leaf-fringed bud as Ivysaur, and then opens into a flower following evolution into Venusaur.
