Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Each town has 7 types of creatures that can be recruited there. The non-upgraded level 1 creature available in a Necropolis town is called what?

Answer: skeleton

The Necropolis is an undead town. All Necropolis heroes start with the Necromancy skill which allows them to resurrect enemy casualties into Skeletons who then join the Necropolis hero's army. This occurs only when the Necropolis hero wins the battle. An army of 10 Skeletons does not strike fear into the hearts of enemy heroes. An army of 10,000 Skeletons is a different story.
2. Each town has the ability to build a Mage Guild. What is the highest level spell that can be learned at a Mage Guild in a Necropolis town?

Answer: 5

There are not many spells that are especially aligned with the Necropolis town. I would have liked to have seen more undead-specific spells. Undead creatures, however, are immune to many spells that affect live creatures. There are also certain beneficial spells that cannot be used to improve the skills of undead creatures. Win some, lose some.
3. Upgraded level 7 creatures in each town require money plus resources to purchase. The upgraded level 7 creature in the Necropolis town is the Ghost Dragon. Which resource type is required to buy one?

Answer: mercury

The Ghost Dragon is a little underpowered for an upgraded level 7 creature. They do, however, have a very useful special effects. Ghost Dragon attacks have a chance to "age" their opponent. If they succeed, all opponent creatures in the affected stack have their hit point totals divided in half. Thus, those pesky Ancient Behemoths, for example, are now reduced to 150 hit points each instead of 300 hit points each. Quite a difference this special can make...
4. All towns have the ability to build a Blacksmith. The Blacksmith produces different machines for different towns. Which machine does a Necropolis Blacksmith produce?

Answer: First Aid Tent

This seems an odd choice by the game designers. A First Aid Tent attached to a castle of undead creatures and heroes? I think I would have chosen a Ballista for this castle.
5. The upgraded level 4 creature of the Necropolis is a Vampire Lord. Vampire Lords can resurrect members of their own stack during combat. If a stack of 20 Vampire Lords is attacked and knocked down to 14 full strength Vampire Lords by the attack of a group of Stone Golems, how many Vampire Lords will be resurrected if the Vampire Lords attack the Stone Golems on their next turn and do 160 points of damage?

Answer: 0

Trick question, did you get it? Some creatures are immune to the Vampire Lord's life draining trick. Animated from a piece of rock, the Stone Golem is one of them.
6. Each town has access to 2 types of affiliated starting heroes, a magic type & a might type. Which are the two starting hero types available to Necropolis towns?

Answer: Necromancer and Death Knight

As mentioned before, all undead heroes start with the Necromancy skill. The better at necromancy the hero is, the more Skeletons he or she can resurrect at the end of a battle. Here's a trick. If you fill all your hero's slots with creatures, making sure none of them are Skeletons but one or more of them are Skeleton Warriors, then Skeleton Warriors, the upgraded form of Skeleton, with be resurrected instead of Skeletons. Galthran's (a Death Knight) unique ability is to increase the attack and defense of all Skeletons and Skeleton Warriors he commands. I don't often play the Necropolis, but this sounds like a nice hero to have when you are leading that army of 10,000 Skeletons.
7. The combination artifact, "Cloak of the Undead King", adds 30% to your Necromancy skill. Additionally, based on your hero's Necromancy skill level, other creatures are resurrected instead of Skeletons. How many individual artifacts are required to construct this combination artifact?

Answer: 3

With Basic Necromancy: Zombies are resurrected.
With Advanced Necromancy: Wights are resurrected.
With Expert Necromancy: Liches are resurrected.
8. Zombies, the upgraded level 2 creature of the Necropolis, have a special ability. They have a chance to cause disease in their opponent. Fill in the blanks: Zombies have a ___ percent chance to cause disease in their opponent. Diseased creatures have their attack and defense reduced by ___ for ___ combat rounds. Fill in all three blanks.

Answer: 20,2,3

What a useless creature. At speeds of very slow and extra slow, damage of 2-3 points each, similar attack and defense rating to a Skeleton and a cost of almost TWICE a skeleton, why would anyone waste their time developing these creatures? Perhaps a Death Knight in the audience can enlighten me.
9. When a Necropolis town is fully built, where is the Shipyard located?

Answer: bottom right

As lairs and buildings are built in a town, they are always placed in the same location. However, each town has its own layout. Not all buildings are in the same relative place in different towns.
10. Which artifact makes undead creatures immune to the Destroy Undead spell?

Answer: Pendant of Death

Pendant of Life makes your units immune to the Death Ripple spell. Amulet of the Undertaker increases Necromancy skill by 5%. Hourglass of the Evil Hour negates all Luck bonuses during combat.
