Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If the attack Belly Drum is used when the user is at below 50% of its maximum HP, how many Attack boosts does it get?

Answer: Two

The often known as "glitch drum", is an in-game bug that causes the Attack stat of the user go up two stages when Belly Drum is used with a Pokemon at below 50% health.

If the user is instead at above 50% health, it will maximize its attack stat at the cost of 50% of its maximum HP.
2. How much health does the Pokemon lose if the attack Belly Drum is used when the user is at below 50% of its maximum HP?

Answer: Does not lose HP

Only the attack boost happens; the user does not lose health.

Oddly enough, the game will show the text "But it [the attack] failed!" although the user's attack stat will still be increased.

Belly Drum is a very useful move in Pokemon such as Clefable, Quagsire, Charizard, and especially Snorlax. Although Belly Drum's main use comes from its unglitched effect, the added bug never hurts!
3. We know that three of the following Pokemon are shiny. Then, which is NOT shiny?

Answer: Pokemon X has Attack and Special DV of 11

For a Pokemon to be shiny it must satisfy the following criteria:

Attack DV must be either 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, or 15
Defense, Speed, and Special DV must be 10

For this reason, it is not possible to get a full 15 DV shiny Pokemon.
4. Which of the following HP DVs IS compatible with shininess?

Answer: 0

Since for a Pokemon to be shiny, its Defense, Speed and Special DVs must be even, the only possibilities are that either the HP DV is 8 (if the Attack DV is odd), or 0 (if the Attack DV is even).

Do you remember the shiny Gyarados? Its Attack DV is 14 and thus its HP DV is 0
5. Among the first 251 Pokemon, there is only one dual-type Pokemon that becomes a single-type Pokemon upon evolution. But which is the type that remains in the evolved form?

Answer: Grass

The Pokemon is Gloom, as it can evolve into Bellossom. Gloom is a Grass/Poison-type Pokemon (two types), while Bellossom is a Grass-type Pokemon (one type). Thus, the correct answer is Grass.
6. If a Pokemon with exactly 25% HP remaining uses either Flail or Reversal, what is the move's Base Power?

Answer: 80

Flail's and Reversal's Base Power depends on the user's remaining health.
From ~20.3125% to ~34.374% remaining HP, the Base Power is 80. Their Base Power can go up to 200, but only when the user is at very low health. An interesting combination consists on using Endure along with Flail or Reversal, because Endure makes the user survive the next hit with 1 HP. It works better on fast Pokemon though, or you will likely faint before you are able to attack!
7. Hidden Power's type and Base Power depend on the DVs of the user. If you want a Pokemon able to use an Ice-type, 70 BP Hidden Power, which DV spread of the following is possible?

Answer: Attack, Speed and Special DV = 15; Defense DV = 13

All choices provide a 70 BP Hidden Power but:

Defense, Speed and Special DV = 15; Attack DV = 13 corresponds to Steel-type
Attack, Defense and Speed DV = 15; Special DV = 13 corresponds to Drak-type
Speed and Special DV = 15; Attack and Defense DV = 13 corresponds to Bug-type

Hidden Power's type depends only on Attack and Defense DVs. Varying both DVs between 12 and 15 provide 16 different combinations, and each one corresponds to one of the 16 existing types. All these combinations provide a Base Power of 70.
8. If a Pokemon that is under the effects of Leech Seed, infatuation, confusion and Mean Look, uses the attack Baton Pass, what happens?

Answer: Only Leech Seed, confusion and Mean Look are passed

When Baton Pass is used the user switches with another Pokémon on its party, passing stat changes and some special conditions, including Leech Seed, confusion and Mean Look.

Baton Pass can be a very dangerous move if you can successfully pass Stat boosts to a more threatening Pokemon.
9. If a Pokemon holding the item King's Rock uses an attack without a secondary effect, it will have a chance to make the target flinch. What is, exactly, that chance?

Answer: 30/256 (~11.7%)

To be able to make the foe flinch, the user must be faster, so King's Rock is a move that works better on speedy Pokemon.

King's Rock also makes Slowpoke evolve to Slowking when traded if it's holding it.
10. In "Pokemon" "Gold" and "Silver", if the move Present is used, against which type of Pokemon can we expect it to do more damage?

Answer: Dark

In the damage calculation of the move Present, the user's level depends on the index number of the foe's type. If the foe is a dual-type Pokemon, the secondary type is used.

Type Rock index number: 5
Type Fire index number: 20
Type Dark index number: 27
