Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the store where you find the chainsaw in the original "Silent Hill"?

Answer: Cut Rite Chainsaws

Cut Rite Chainsaws is the creators tribute to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2". It is the store where Dennis Hopper buys his saw. The chainsaw is also a weapon you can only obtain after completing the game once.
2. In the PAL version of the original "Silent Hill" what creature did the Mumbler replace?

Answer: Grey Child

The Grey Child could still be found in the demo of the game that came with "Metal Gear Solid". The Mumbler did make an appearance in the NTSC version of the game but is found in the second half of the game rather than the very beginning. The reason the Grey Child did not appear in the full version of the PAL copy of "Silent Hill" was because it was deemed too disturbing and it could influence people to abuse children by most European Censors.
3. Which of these final boss names from "Silent Hill" is the odd one out?

Answer: Incubus

Incubus is one of two names for the final boss you fight if you decide to save Kaufmann during the course of the game thus resulting in a hideous demon being born. The other three names are the various names for the final boss, if you do not save Kaufmann in the game, resulting in a divine angel-like figure arising.
4. How many different endings are there to see in the original "Silent Hill"?

Answer: 5

There are four serious endings and one joke ending that can be found in "Silent Hill". The serious endings are titled Bad, Bad+, Good and Good+ while the joke one is called UFO. Bad is the easiest to get as it requires no extra exploring while Good+ and UFO require extensive exploring and experimentation.
5. Out of all the endings for "Silent Hill" which one is proven to be officially correct in "Silent Hill 3"?

Answer: Good- Saving Kaufmann only

The ending titled Good is proven to be the correct ending in "Silent Hill" by the process of elimination. Obviously the Bad ending, where you fail to save either Cybil of Kaufmann, cannot be the correct ending as Harry Mason dies in that ending while he is still alive 17 years later in "Silent Hill 3". Bad+ cannot be the correct ending as it ends with Harry Mason being trapped in "Silent Hill" and also resulting in his death. Good+ is proven to be an incorrect ending as in "Silent Hill 3" there is no mention of Cybil from Heather or Harry Mason's diaries which tells you he escaped "Silent Hill" on his own.

This leaves Good, in which Harry Mason at the end is given a new child by the final boss and manages to escape from "Silent Hill".
6. "Silent Hill 2" has many references to films by which director?

Answer: David Lynch

One of the David Lynch references in "Silent Hill 2" is when the main character meets a woman that looks like his dead wife and afterwards finding a video tape that proves he killed his wife, this is in reference to "Lost Highway". Another reference is when James Sunderland hides is a closet after finding the Pyramid Head raping one of the monsters, this is in reference to "Blue Velvet".
7. In the PC version of "Silent Hill 2" the player could generally save the game at any time they wanted.

Answer: True

The PC version of "Silent Hill 2" generally received lower reviews than its console counter-part due to the difficulty controlling the game through a keyboard. However it did have a quick-save and quick-load feature along with trailers for "Silent Hill 2" and "Silent Hill 3".
8. Which of these names for "Silent Hill 2" is the odd one out regarding extra content?

Answer: "Born from a Wish"

"Born from a Wish" was the name of the extra scenario where you played as Maria which came with various special editions around the world while the other three titles were the names of the subtitles to the various special editions of "Silent Hill 2". "Restless Dreams" was used in North America, "Inner Fear" was used with most European releases and "Poem of Death" was used in Japan.
9. How many different endings can you get in "Silent Hill 2" including the UFO ending?

Answer: 6

Three possible endings can be seen after completing the game for the first time, while the other three can only be seen after acquiring items that are unlocked through completing the game once and then using the items when needed. Four of the endings were serious and were called Leave, In Water, Rebirth and Maria while two endings were jokes and called Dog and UFO.
10. What happens to the town of Silent Hill as you progress through "Silent Hill 2"?

Answer: It starts to show it true form

The more of "Silent Hill 2" you complete the more the town starts reverting back to what it truly looks like. An example of this is after finding more evidence of what happens to Mary at the Lakeside Hotel the more it starts to look like the burnt down building it is. Also James' letter from Mary gradually disappears as you solve the mystery showing you that James is imagining what he is seeing around the town.
11. What item can be found in "Silent Hill 3" that is a reference to "Metal Gear Solid"?

Answer: Pistol Silencer

In the construction site in "Silent Hill 3" there is a corner of a wall which appears to be bleeding, if you proceed to break the wall with a strong melee weapon you will discover a silencer which can be attached to the handgun to suppress the noise of firing which doesn't attract other monsters.
12. Complete Claudia Wolf's line from "Silent Hill 3". Father Vincent: Well, the guest of honor has arrived. Let's get this party started. Heather, go ahead and kill this crazy bitch. This demon who claims to speak for God. The time has come. You can kill her now. Claudia:_________________!

Answer: You'll go to Hell

This is said just before Claudia stabs Father Vincent in the back. The two had just been having a heated conflict. Heather enters the argument half way through. Through out the game both try to tempt Heather to their own ways of thinking, both with themselves in mind.
13. What is the name of the boss character you fight on top of the apartment blocks in "Silent Hill 3"?

Answer: Missionary

Heather fights the Missionary after following a trail from her father's apartment up to the roof. There, after confronting Claudia Wolf, who tells you that if you survive she will see you in Silent Hill, the Missionary attacks. The Missionary can be killed by targeting the weak spot on his back. This is best done with the shotgun.
14. How many endings can be seen in "Silent Hill 3"?

Answer: 3

"Silent Hill 3" was the first "Silent Hill" game to only have definite good or bad endings instead of having endings that have pros and cons. The game has two serious endings entitled Normal and Possession and one joke ending called Revenge which is the traditional UFO ending.
15. What is the name of the song that plays over the credits if you obtain the normal ending in "Silent Hill 3"?

Answer: Hometown

Hometown is the song played over the credits if you obtain the normal ending along with a picture of Heather visiting her fathers grave. The song was sung by Joe Romersa and composed by Akira Yamaoka. Akira Yamaoka not only is the composer to "Silent Hill" games he has creative input, which allows him to put together a musical score he feels is more than appropriate.
16. What prominent figure from previous "Silent Hill" games became an enemy in "Silent Hill 4: The Room"?

Answer: Wheelchairs

Wheelchairs, after having a disturbing role as a prop in "Silent Hill" and "Silent Hill 3" became an unstoppable enemy which could only be delayed by shooting them before they resumed their attacks. Unlike the appearance of the Wheelchairs in "Silent Hill" and "Silent Hill 3", where they were from the dark mind of Alessa Gillespie, in "Silent Hill 4: The Room" the Wheelchairs are from the mind of Walter Sullivan because they are an effective tool of fear in the correct setting.
17. Which of these elements of gameplay is the odd one out in "Silent Hill 4: The Room"?

Answer: NPC Partner

All gameplay elements mentioned above are new to the "Silent Hill" series except the idea of a NPC partner which was seen for the first time in "Silent Hill 2" when Maria was with James, although she couldn't fight with him. Eileen in "Silent Hill 4: The Room" can be armed and can fend off enemies for short periods of time but she still needs Henry to protect her.
18. The apartment building you are locked in from "Silent Hill 4: The Room" takes place in what town?

Answer: South Ashfield

None of this game takes place directly in the town of "Silent Hill" but there are areas that are very close such as "Silent Hill" Forest and the Water Prison under Toluca Lake which is also part of "Silent Hill". The reason for the game not taking place most of the time in "Silent Hill" was because it was originally planned to be the beginning of a new series of its own but it was decided it couldn't be sold to the public without an established background.
19. How many endings are there to see in "Silent Hill 4: The Room"?

Answer: 4

"Silent Hill 4: The Room" is the first "Silent Hill" to not have a UFO ending or a joke ending of any kind. The four endings you can receive are entitled Escape, Mother, Eileen's Death and 21 Sacraments.
20. What was the victim number of Cynthia Velasquez in "Silent Hill 4: The Room"?

Answer: 16

Cynthia was the first victim that Henry encountered during the course of the game but despite his efforts her assumption of that the whole thing was dream ended in her being killed. When you encounter Cynthia's ghost later on in the game her special ability is that she slithers across the floor but cannot get up.
