Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In a default Free for All game, you start any map with two weapons at your disposal. One of them is the lightsaber, the other is which gun?

Answer: Bryar Blaster Pistol

The Bryar is the nominally the weakest shooter in the game, but it is a very accurate weapon. However you'll not really have a chance in a fight with it alone, so one of your initial concerns will be to get a better weapon before encountering rival players.
2. "Jedi Outcast" allows for team play as well, with players fighting on either of two sides. Which of these multiplayer modes is NOT a team mode?

Answer: Jedi Master

Jedi Master mode is a twist on the Free for All game: Players don't get a lightsaber to start with and neither do they have access to their Force powers nor can they score kills. There is a lightsaber available for picking up on the map and the player who wields it can use the Force and score for kills - even those inflicted on each other by his or her rivals!
3. In a "Jedi Outcast" team game, the two sides are identified by colors. Which colors does the game use to denote team allegiance?

Answer: Red and blue

In team games, players are identified as red and blue and these colors are shown in the logos hovering above each character to identify their team allegiance. The blue side shows the Rebel Alliance logo while the red side has the Imperial one. Characters' clothes are also tinted in the respective color in team games.
4. Which of these Force powers does not directly inflict damage but is still responsible for a large number of multiplayer kills?

Answer: Force Push

Most multiplayer maps in the game have a substantial number of places where it is possible to fall, usually into a bottomless pit. While falls do quite often occur by simple player mishap, it is also possible to push an opponent into a pit, scoring a quick kill in the process. Force Speed and Force Jump just help the player to get around while Force Lightning is a straightforward damaging power.
5. If playing in Capture the Flag mode, if you manage to take the opponent's flag to your headquarter, you normally score a point. However, sometimes you may not score even if you manage this - which in-game condition can prevent you from scoring?

Answer: Your team's flag is currently not at your headquarter

To score in Capture the Flag, you must grab and the opposing team's flag (located at the opposite side of the map from yours) and bring it back to your own headquarter while your own flag is present there. So by grabbing the flag, you don't only set up your own team for scoring, you also prevent the opposing side from doing so.
6. If a flag-carrier is killed in Capture the Flag mode, the flag drops to the ground. Who can pick it up?

Answer: Players from either team

Once a flag drops, either team can pick it up, but the effect is somewhat different. If a member from the owners' team picks the flag, it is immediately returned to its base regardless of its original location while picking up an opponents' flag does simply make you the new flag-carrier and you still have to return it to your headquarter the hard way.
7. Capture the Ysalamiri is a variation of the Capture the Flag mode of the game - which additional difficulty is added to the game in this mode?

Answer: Flag-carriers cannot use Force powers

Capture the Ysalamiri is a regular Capture the Flag game except that anyone carrying the Ysalamir (which replaces the flag) is prevented from using any Force powers. This not only cripples their attacking possibilities but also reduces their maneuvering ability due to the lack of the Force Speed and Force Jump abilities.

In spite of the effect of an Ysalamir in the canon "Star Wars" universe (it generally prevents Force use in a certain radius), the Ysalamir in the game only prevents the player from using Force powers - they can still be fully affected by others' uses!
8. Are all Capture the Flags maps provided with the base "Jedi Outcast" game fully symmetrical?

Answer: No

In fact, none of the standard "Jedi Outcast" team/Capture the Flag maps is fully symmetrical. Some of them have a much higher level of symmetry than others, but each has a slightly different setup for the red and blue sides - even if it is only with the regard to the possible weapon pickups located near each team's headquarter.
9. One special interaction possible between players in some multiplayer modes is a lightsaber duel. Which of these is NOT true about a lightsaber duel? (I am not talking about "Duel" mode, but about the lightsaber duel that can be invoked during a regular Free for All game)

Answer: You cannot use Force powers while in a duel

A lightsaber duel is initiated by one player igniting their lightsaber and challenging another player. They can then accept that duel at which point they'll be locked in a protective bubble preventing interference by any player not involved in the duel.

At this point, players can't switch weapons or pick up any boosts, but they can still use some of their Force powers. There can always be only one duel active during a game session even if there are four or more players on the map.
10. "Jedi Outcast" can be played in online multiplayer mode either with one player hosting the game (all other players connect to their machine) or with a dedicated server. Why do most players prefer to use a server in spite of the additional complications involved?

Answer: Using a server makes it more likely that no player has a timing advantage

Like with any real-time shooter game, the playability of "Jedi Outcast" as a multiplayer internet game heavily depends on the lag you are experiencing between your game and the game's host. If the game is hosted by a player actively involved in the game, they experience no lag and thus have better control over their character. Thus, most players will either prefer to have a server-based match or at the very least take turns hosting and add the results of all hosted games together so that overall, no player will enjoy the advantage.
