Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When "Mega Man IV" opens, how much time has passed since the events of "Mega Man III"?

Answer: One year

Only a year has passed when Dr. Cossak makes his entrance into the world domination scene. This is the only game in the NES series that tells you how much time has elapsed from the previous installment.
2. "Mega Man IV" introduces the Mega Buster which allows you to charge up your energy for more power shots. What other "Mega Man" game used the same concept for one of its Robot Master weapons?

Answer: Mega Man II

Although "Mega Man IV" get the credit for introducing the Mega Buster, the true roots of the Mega Buster can be traced back to "Mega Man II". Just like the Mega Buster, you can charge Heat Man's weapon, the "Atomic Fire". The longer you charge the weapon the more powerful and larger its blast will become.
3. What other Capcom NES title uses the same graphics and for the quicksand that appears in "Mega Man IV"

Answer: Duck Tales 2

Many of Capcom's games reuse sound effects and graphics. This is just one such example. "Duck Tales 2" features quicksand in the Egypt stage. In "Mega Man IV", the quicksand appears in Pharaoh Man's stage.
4. In 1991, early screen shots of "Mega Man 4" were published in one of the gaming magazines. Notable for featuring a deleted "Sphinx" mini-boss, these screenshots in many ways appear quite different from the final product. What gaming magazine published these photos?

Answer: Electronic Gaming Monthly

Like many games, during the construction of "Mega Man IV", apparently several things were changed before the game was finally released. The "Sphinx" mini-boss is the most intriguing of the screenshots published. Also the Robot Master select screen differs from the final version.
5. What is the first boss of Dr. Wily's Castle?

Answer: Super Metool

The Metool appears in all six NES titles. This time they just supersized the Metool for a boss.
6. How many stages in "Mega Man IV" feature water in one way or another?

Answer: Three

Toad Man has water flows you must be careful with or they will push you off platforms. Most of Dive Man's stage takes place in water. The first stage of Dr. Wily's castle also features water.
7. What is the best Robot Master stage to harvest energy tanks as the password system does not retain the energy tanks in "Mega Man IV"?

Answer: Skull Man

Unlike "Mega Man II" and "III", the passwords do not save or record the number of energy tanks. The best stage to get energy tanks is "Skull Man". There are three energy tanks on that level, more than any other level.
8. Dr. Cossak's named his daughter Kalinka. "Kalinka" is the name of a famous folk song. What other game adapted this song?

Answer: Tetris

"Tetris" is Russian in origin. This famous Russian folk song appears as "Sound Number 7" in Atari's arcade version of "Tetris". The song itself is old, dating at least back to 1860 and has been covered at sporting events, video games, and various other media outlets.
9. Where does Protoman appear in this game?

Answer: At the end of Dr. Cossack's Castle

Protoman reveals Dr. Cossack to be innocent, and Dr. Wily is the true villain behind all this robot madness. The last three NES titles all employ a fake villain, and only have beating the said fake villain do you discover (shock shock) that Dr. Wily is the true villain.
10. In the gaming magazine Nintendo Power, Nintendo published monthly lists of the top games for each of their consoles, calling them the "Power Charts" . "Mega Man IV" made its debut within the Top 5 games for the NES in April 1992 as the fourth most popular game on the console. What was the highest position "Mega Man IV" obtained in the NES "Power Charts"?

Answer: Two

In April, May, and June of 1992, "Mega Man IV" held steady at four. In July, the game inched up to number three on the chart. Then in August, 1992, "Mega Man IV" managed to make it to number two on the chart, the highest position it would obtain. The game was only number two for one month.

After August 1992, "Mega Man IV" would appear a total of five more times in the Top Five. The March 1993 issue of Nintendo Power was the last time "Mega Man IV" would peak within the Top Five. "Super Mario Bros 3" was the number one game when "Mega Man IV" was number two.
