Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The original "Mega Man" game only features six Robot Masters. Which two Robot Masters were later added to its remake "Mega Man Powered Up"?

Answer: Time Man and Oil Man

The first "Mega Man" (aka Rockman in Japan) video game was released by CAPCOM for the Famicom (aka Nintendo Entertainment System/NES) in December, 1987. The original "Mega Man" is unique in that has only six Robot Masters to choose from (Bomb Man, Guts Man, Cut Man, Ice Man, Fire Man and Elec Man). The original "Mega Man" is also the only game that uses a points system, which was omitted in later games.

In March 2006, CAPCOM released "Mega Man Powered Up" for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). It is a remake of the original "Mega Man" game with chibified graphics. In addition, two additional Robot Masters (Time Man and Oil Man) were added to the mix.
2. Which Robot Master from "Mega Man 2" can be defeated with only one or two shots of his own weapon?

Answer: Metal Man

"Mega Man 2" was released for the NES in December 1988 and it set the precedence of having eight Robot Masters for the player to choose from. It also standardized having the Robot Master stage select screen arranged in a tic-tac-toe pattern. "Mega Man 2" features Heat Man, Wood Man, Flash Man, Crash Man, Bubble Man, Quick Man, Air Man and Metal Man.

Metal Man's weapon (Metal Blade) is one of the most versatile weapons in the game. There are several Robot Masters who are weak to it, most notably Metal Man himself. During the boss rush section of Dr. Wily's castle, a single Metal Blade is all Mega Man needs to defeat him for a second time in Normal mode. It will take two Metal Blades in Difficult mode.
3. In "Mega Man 3", which Robot Master's stage must you revisit in the Doc Robot phase of the game?

Answer: Spark Man

"Mega Man 3" was released for the NES in September 1990. It features Needle Man, Snake Man, Spark Man, Top Man, Hard Man, Gemini Man, Shadow Man and Magnet Man. It also introduces several new features for Mega Man including his dog Rush and the ability to slide.

Once all eight Robot Masters have been defeated, the player will have to revisit four of the eight stages (Needle Man, Shadow Man, Gemini Man and Spark Man) to take on the Doc Robots. Each Doc Robot is programmed with the spirit of a Robot Master destroyed in "Mega Man 2" and there are two bosses to fight per stage.
4. Which two Robot Masters' stages must you visit in order to obtain the special Balloon and Wire adapters in "Mega Man 4"?

Answer: Pharaoh Man & Dive Man

"Mega Man 4" was released for the NES in December 1991. It introduced the chargeable Mega Buster to the series. In addition to the Rush adapters and Robot Master weapons, "Mega Man 4" also features two other special items.

One of these is the Balloon adapter, which provides Mega Man with a floating platform he can ride on. It can be found at the far right of the quicksand at the beginning of Pharaoh Man's stage. The second one is a Wire adapter which can be found in a spike-filled pit in Dive Man's stage. The Wire adapter allows Mega Man to climb up to the ceiling.
5. What is the name of a Robot Master in "Mega Man 5" who is designed to look like a train?

Answer: Charge Man

"Mega Man 5" was released for the NES in December 1992. It introduced a new animal partner for Mega Man named Beat, a blue bird who will continuously attack enemies on screen until his energy runs out. Beat became available after collecting one letter from each Robot Master stage. The letters spell out the name of the game (MEGAMANV).

Charge Man is a Robot Master from "Mega Man 5" who is designed to look like a steam locomotive. His stage is set on a moving train as well. His signature weapon is the Charge Kick. When equipped it allows Mega Man to damage enemies while sliding. "Mega Man 5" also features Stone Man, Gravity Man, Crystal Man, Napalm Man, Wave Man, Star Man and Gyro Man.
6. Which of these is NOT the name of a Robot Master that appears in "Mega Man 6"?

Answer: Spear Man

"Mega Man 6" was first released in November 1993 and it was the last "Mega Man" game to be featured on the NES. In this game, the Robot Masters are designed to represent different nations from around the world. These robots are Blizzard Man (Canada), Plant Man (Brazil), Flame Man (Saudi Arabia), Wind Man (China), Centaur Man (Greece), Knight Man (UK), Tomahawk Man (USA) and Yamato Man (Japan).

Yamato Man was the first North American version of a Robot Master to be named using a word from a foreign language. Yamato is a Japanese word that means "great peace". However, Yamato Man's signature weapon is the Yamato Spear.
7. In "Mega Man 7" only four Robot Masters can be selected at the beginning of the game without using a password. Which Robot Master is not available in the first wave?

Answer: Turbo Man

"Mega Man 7" was the first game to be released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Super Famicom/SNES) in March 1995. "Mega Man 7" made some changes to the usual format.

"Mega Man 7" is the first main series title to feature an intro and intermediary stage and only four of the eight Robot Masters (Freeze Man, Cloud Man, Junk Man and Burst Man) can be selected after completing the intro stage. Once the first wave of bots are defeated, the player needs to complete the intermediary stage in order to unlock the second set of Robot Masters (Spring Man, Shade Man, Slash Man and Turbo Man).
8. Which two Robot Masters from "Mega Man 8" are also present in the spinoff title "Mega Man & Bass" (aka "Rockman & Forte")?

Answer: Tengu Man & Astro Man

"Mega Man 8" was released in 1997 for both Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn. It kept the same play style as "Mega Man 7" as it featured an intro and intermediary stage and only allowed players to choose from four Robot Masters at a time. In addition "Mega Man 8" did not arrange the Robot Masters in the usual tic-tac-toe configuration.

Two Robot Masters from "Mega Man 8" (Tengu Man & Astro Man) were reused for the Japanese exclusive title "Rockman & Forte" which was released for the SNES in 1998. It also added six additional Robot Masters (Pirate Man, Dynamo Man, Burner Man, Cold Man, Magic Man and Ground Man). "Rockman & Forte" was eventually ported to the Game Boy Advance (GBA) in 2002, where it became known as "Mega Man & Bass".
9. "Mega Man 9" introduced the first female Robot Master to the series. What is her name?

Answer: Splash Woman

"Mega Man 9" was released for multiple gaming systems in 2008 including Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Microsoft X-Box 360. Despite being released for more modern gaming platforms, "Mega Man 9" was designed to look and play like the classic games from the NES era, specifically "Mega Man 2".

Splash Woman is designed to look like a mermaid and her signature weapon is the Laser Trident. The other Robot Masters featured in "Mega Man 9" are Concrete Man, Magma Man, Hornet Man, Jewel Man, Plug Man, Tornado Man and Galaxy Man. Comet Woman later appears in "Mega Man Unlimited" a fan-made NES-style "Mega Man" game that was released in 2014.
10. Which animal themed Robot Master is featured in "Mega Man 10"?

Answer: Sheep Man

Sheep Man is the electricity specialist of this game as his signature weapon is Thunder Wool. In addition to Sheep Man, the Robot Masters that are featured in "Mega Man 10" include Commando Man, Nitro Man, Blade Man, Pump Man, Chill Man, Solar Man and Strike Man. Shark Man appears in "Mega Man Battle Network", a spinoff series released for the GBA in 2001.
