Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Mega Man 10" introduces us to playable challenges for the first time in the classic series. Which challenge features a segment where Mega Man must cross a quick sand passage with spikes immediately above his head?

Answer: World Adventurer

"Mega Man 10" brings to the table for the first time in the classic series a list of challenges played separately from the main title.

"Mega Man 9" had challenges as well; however, they were all completed within the main campaign of the game. "Mega Man 10" has those type of campaign challenges as well, but the real meat is found in the 88 Challenges.

The great thing about these challenges is you can play any boss of the game, provided they are unlocked, at any time without having to go through the main campaign.
2. "Mega Man 10" is the first game in Classic series to feature Easy, Normal, and Difficult settings. What other game featured a difficulty option that featured three settings?

Answer: Mega Man 9

When Capcom released "Mega Man 9" in 2008, the game was rightfully seen as an oddity. Capcom was releasing a new 8-bit "Mega Man" game when the major companies hadn't released such games for fifteen years at the earliest. The title was a huge hit, although the difficulty was certainly up there.

To address this issue, Capcom included three difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, and Hard. Easy is exactly what it says it is, and will appeal to new players just breaking into the series. Normal, the game's default, is average difficulty for the series. Hard will have you tossing your controller across the room in frustration, it's that difficult.

Of the original six NES titles, only "Mega Man 2" had a difficulty setting option, and these were "Normal" and "Difficult".

"Mega Man 9" had three difficulty settings: normal, "Hero", and "Super Hero".
3. "Mega Man 10" is the first classic 8-bit "Mega Man" game that you can defeat using only the Mega Buster.

Answer: True

All six NES titles require use of special items at certain points in the game to progress. "Mega Man 9" also requires use of weapons as well. "Mega Man 7" can be completed using only the Mega Buster. "Mega Man 8" requires use of Clown Man's claw to cross the gaps as well.

The true difficulty of defeating "Mega Man 10" with only the Mega Buster is the second stage of Dr. Wily's castle. There are breakable ice blocks that are easy to destroy when defending yourself against enemies, and if you do destroy the blocks then Mega Man must use a special item. However, it is possible, though difficult, to get past this stage without the use of any special item.
4. How many Robot Master stages feature mini-bosses?

Answer: Four

There are four stages that feature mini-bosses.

Sheep Man's stage features Octobulb.

Solar Man's stage features Suzak and Fenix.

Strike Man's stage features The Keeper.

Blade Man's stage features the Tricastle.

One of the challenges from "Mega Man 10" is to get to boss room without firing a shot. Due to the minibosses, if you are attempting this challenge with only the Robot Master stages it can only be done on the four remaining stages.
5. "Mega Man 10" features the first 8-bit appearance of what Robot Master from "Mega Man 7"?

Answer: Slash Man

"Mega Man 10" features the first 8-bit appearance of two Robot Masters: Slash Man from "Mega Man 7" and Frost Man from "Mega Man 8".

The best items to use against Slash Man is either the Chill Spike or the Triple Blade.

Mega Man should use the Commando Bomb to bring Frost Man to his knees!

"Mega Man 10" features the earliest boss fight during normal stage progression of any of the 8-bit titles.

On the first playthrough of "Mega Man 10", I remember thinking it was rather insane that I was already at a boss door on the first stage of Dr. Wily's castle and I had just began the stage. Mega Man must fight three incarnations of what Capcom calls the "Weapons Archives". The Archives feature one Robot Master from each of the previous nine Mega Man titles in the classic series, not including "Mega Man and Bass".

Weapons Archive 1 features Elec Man from "Mega Man", Wood Man from "Mega Man 2", and Gemini Man from "Mega Man 3". (Personally, I think they should have went with either Air Man or Metal Man, preferably Metal Man.)

Weapons Archive 2 features Ring Man from "Mega Man 4", Napalm Man from "Mega Man 5", and Flame Man from "Mega Man 6".

Weapons Archive 3 features Slash Man from "Mega Man 7", Frost Man from "Mega Man 8", and the ever popular Tornado Man from "Mega Man 9".
6. Who is running Bass's shop?

Answer: Reggae

In "Mega Man 9", Auto and Roll run the shop. In "Mega Man 10", Auto and Dr. Light are running the shop, as Roll is sick.

If you play as Bass, Reggae, Dr' Wily's hench bird, runs the shop. Reggae is one of the more obscure Mega Man characters, appearing in these two games in the classic series: "Mega Man 7" and "Mega Man 10". Reggae appears more so it the manga and other media rather than the games themselves.
7. Beginning with "Mega Man II" and in all subsequent titles in the classic NES series, toward the end of the game you find yourself in a teleportation room with eight doors, each door leading to a second battle with the evil Robot Masters. In "Mega Man 10", there are three doors arranged horizontally at the top of the screen., what Robot Master is in the middle teleportation device?

Answer: Solar Man

The Teleportation Room, present since "Mega Man 2", has long been a standard playing device in the "Mega Man" series. The only classic title this room is not present in is the original "Mega Man", though you must fight all six Robot Masters in the Wily stages which is the same idea as the Teleporation Room, just implemented differently. On the left side of the screen in "Mega Man 10", there are three doors arranged vertically, one on top of the other. The bottom most is Nitro Man, the middle is Chill Man, and the top is Blade Man. On the right side of the screen, which is designed the same way, Pump man is the lowest, Commando Man is the middle, and Sheep Man is the upper most. In the center of the room there are two doors, one on top of the screen and one on the botto. The top is Solar Man and the bottom is Strike Man.

Thankfully, unlike the first game, when you kill the robot masters they give you energy. That way, you don't have to fight all eight robot masters with only one health meter.
8. How many "Mega Man" titles were available via the Virtual Console when "Mega Man 10" came out for the Wii?

Answer: Three

Capcom released the first three "Mega Man" NES titles around the same time they released "Mega Man 9" in late 2008, and would not release the other three "Mega Man" titles.

"Mega Man 9" come out as a Wiiware title on September 22, 2008. Two "Mega Man" games were released at that point: "Mega Man" and "Mega Man 2". Capcom then released "Mega Man 3" three weeks later. Afterward, Capcom would not release another "Mega Man" title for the Virtual Console until April 19, 2010, when they published "Mega Man 4", almost two months after they published "Mega Man 10", the followup to "Mega Man 9".

Personally, I am still waiting for "Mega Man 6" to hit the Virtual Console, as I really like that title. Perhaps it could be part of the European Habaii festival, as that title was never released in the PAL regions.
9. Including "Mega Man 10", how many times does Dr. Wily use the famous disappearing, reappearing saucer attack in the eleven main games of the classic series?

Answer: Eight

For someone as imaginative and technologically advanced as Dr. Wily, he sure relies a lot on the old disappearing, reappearing saucer routine for the final. fight.

He first uses this attack in "Mega Man 4". He likes the attack so much (perhaps because he think it's effective, even though he continues to lose?) that he reuses it in "Mega Man 5", "Mega Man 6", "Mega Man 9", and "Mega Man 10".

He also uses the same form of attack in non 8-bit titles "Mega Man 7", "Mega Man 8", and "Mega Man and Bass". as well.
10. "Mega Man 10" is the first time we see an 8-bit sprite for Bass .

Answer: False

"Mega Man 10" marks the first 8-bit appearance of Bass in a playable form and many think it's the first time we get to see Bass in this retro style.

Technically, that's not quite true. The first 8-bit design of Bass (same sprite artwork) actually appears in the ending of "Mega Man 9". After defeating Wily, Mega Man and Wily run into a room that has a machine showing a draft schematic of Bass. While arguably Bass does not appear in the 8-bit titles until "Mega Man 10", it is "Mega Man 9" that first gives us the actual 8-bit sprite that Capcom will use for Bass.
