Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the Special Cup's symbol?

Answer: A diamond with an S in it

The Special Cup's symbol is a blue diamond with a red S in the middle of it. The star is given to the Star Cup. The silhouettes of Bowser and Mario are not used in this game.
2. What cannot be found in DK's Jungle Parkway?

Answer: Eight Silver Coins

A ship can be seen sailing along the river in DK's Jungle Parkway. The bridge is located near the end of the course and crosses in front of the waterfall. It leads straight into the short cave located right before the starting line.

The eight silver coins is a reference to "Diddy Kong Racing" where one of the challenges is to collect eight silver coins on each course. They are not found in "Mario Kart 64".
3. When you drive off Banshee Boardwalk, what do you fall into?

Answer: Water

As with most stages, when you fall off the course, you'll land in water. Lava is used only in Bowser's Castle, and you can fall into nothingness if you jump off Rainbow Road. When you fall into water, lava, or nothingness, Lakitu will come and rescue you with his fishing rod.
4. What creatures can be found on Rainbow Road?

Answer: Chain Chomps

Chain Chomps are those large black balls that have eyes and large mouths. In other Mario games, they would normally have a chain holding them to some stationary object, limiting their effective range. In "Mario Kart 64", however, they travel along Rainbow Road in the opposite direction they you are traveling, without any restrictions.

They just keep chomping along, and if you hit one, you'll be sent into the air.
5. What colour is Bowser's kart?

Answer: Orange

Bowser's kart is orange while blue is given to Toad, and green is given to both Luigi (dark), and Yoshi (light). Kart colour does not affect game play and is merely there to help differentiate the other racers when racing.
6. What is not a hazard in Yoshi's Valley?

Answer: Falling Yoshi eggs

Yoshi's Valley has sheer cliffs at some parts that you could fall off. If you do, Lakitu will come and put you back on course. Another hazard is the porcupines. They hang around in groups on this course, and will send your racer spinning if you run over one. Finally, there is a giant, floating Yoshi Egg near the end of the course. If you drive under it, you will be flattened and unable to move for a while, but it's not too hard to dodge.
7. Luigi shares his weight class with one other character. Who is it?

Answer: Mario

There are eight characters and three weight classes. Peach, Toad, and Yoshi are all light weights. Mario and Luigi are mediums, and Wario, DK, and Bowser are all heavy weights. Light weights have excellent acceleration, and do not sink when driving on sand or grass.

Heavy weights are the exact opposite, but they can bash other racers out of their way with ease, and sometimes send them spinning. Medium weight racers are a balance between the two.
8. What creatures inhabit Banshee Boardwalk?

Answer: All of these

When driving along Banshee Boardwalk, there is one part where a Cheep Cheep (a giant, colourful fish) will jump over the course, though he does not affect the race. Soon after, a group of Boos will materialize in front of you to scare you, though they also do not affect the game.

The bats are seen in the creepy old building that you drive through, and come out of the fireplaces. If you drive through them, they will drastically cut your speed.
9. What gives Yoshi's Valley its character?

Answer: It has multiple routes

The course breaks up into about four routes (give or take depending on your definition of a route) you can take. Some are shorter with more hazards, or one could drop you secretly in front of everyone else. When racing on this course, everyone's portrait is replaced with a question mark until they have completed their last lap, so you can never be sure of anyone's progress.
10. Is it possible to skip a large portion of Rainbow Road?

Answer: Yes

There are actually a few places where you can jump down to a lower part of the course, but the largest shortcut is near the beginning. If you have a mushroom at the start of the course (such as when playing time trial), you can turn your kart off to the left and activate when just starting to go down the large ramp. If you do this correctly, you can fly right of the course, and due to the "bottom" of it being so far down, Lakitu will not come to pick you up. If your angles were right, you should land with about a third of the course already done, and with Rainbow Road being the longest course, that's quite a bit.

In time trial mode, if you save a mushroom for each lap, you can do this three times, and get an impressive record.
