Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the protagonist of "Metal Gear Solid"?

Answer: Solid Snake

Solid Snake is the main protagonist in the first game of the series. He also appears in the second and fourth game in the canon series again as a main protagonist. In addition, he appears in the "Metal Gear Acid" spin-off games that are not considered canon, mainly because Solid Snake dies after the first one.
2. Who was the child soldier adopted and raised by the one who killed his biological parents?

Answer: Raiden

Raiden, the other main protagonist in "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty" (alongside Solid Snake) had his parents killed during a civil war and was raised as and fought as a child soldier, earning him nicknames such as "White Devil" and "Jack the Ripper". Raiden suppressed these memories but the truth behind them and their connection with Solidus Snake is revealed throughout the course of the game.
3. What is the real name of Master Miller, who appears in "Metal Gear Solid"?

Answer: Kazuhira Miller

Master Miller is a nickname of Kazuhira Miller who, in "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker", is an associate of Big Boss and deputy commander of Militaires Sans Frontieres. However, it is later revealed that it is in fact not the true Master Miller during "Metal Gear Solid" but Liquid Snake posing as him, having already had Master Miller killed.
4. Which of these is NOT a name given to a Metal Gear creation?

Answer: ZACK

Throughout the "Metal Gear Solid" series and its predecessor "Metal Gear" focus is placed on the protagonists stopping the nuclear capable, bipedal war machines called Metal Gear. There have been many created and all have another name after Metal Gear to show that they are different. ZACK is a real persons name, which has never been used for a Metal Gear. REX is encountered in the first game, RAY in the second and ZEKE is the Metal Gear created by Big Boss, Huey Emmerich and Dr. Strangelove in "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker" to show Militaires Sans Frontieres capabilities and serve as a deterrent.
5. In "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker", one of Big Boss' allies, Paz Ortega Andrade, is revealed to be a spy called Pacifica Ocean. You must battle her and Metal Gear ZEKE in the final mission, but, what is the name of the song that plays during this fight?

Answer: Koi no yokushiryoku

The song is Paz's image or theme song and is sung by Nana Mizuki, who voiced Paz in the Japanese localization. "Koi no yokushiryoku" translates to Love Deterrence, a reference to the idea that Hot Coldman has of nuclear deterrence through Peace Walker.

A re-arranged version appeared on Nana Mizuki's 8th album "IMPACT EXCITER". This song marked the first time an image song was created for a specific character in the series.
6. The "Metal Gear Solid" series has played host to a selection of 'Cyborg Ninjas', easily identifiable by their appearance and skills wielding a sword. However, who was the second Cyborg Ninja?

Answer: Olga Gurlukovich

Frank Jaeger, more commonly referred to as Grey Fox, was the first Cyborg Ninja, appearing in the first game. In "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty", Olga Gurlukovich is forced (by the Patriots) to help Raiden in his quest of stopping Solidus Snake, and assumes the identity of a Cyborg Ninja to aid him.

In "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots", Raiden becomes the third Cyborg Ninja. None of these characters have become a Cyborg Ninja by choice, all were forced by the Patriots. Frank Jaeger was an experiment, the Patriots held Olga Gurlukovich's daughter, forcing her to co-operate and Raiden was captured and surgically altered much like Frank Jaeger was.
7. Characters who are generally considered as working against the Patriots can freely say and hear the phrase "the Patriots." People under the Patriots control can't, they hear "The La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo." Why?

Answer: Nanomachines change the phrase

Some of the characters in the series say "the Patriots" and the other person will reply "The La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo? What the hell are you on about?" Most of these people are soldiers and have therefore been injected with nanomachines, which were altered by the Patriots so the phrase can't be heard, it simply replaces it with "The La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo." The replaced phrase itself is from the fact that, in Japan, L sounds technically doesn't exist, being replace with R therefore expressing the idea of the Patriots being an unspeakable organization. Obviously, this can't apply in English, we say L.
8. Finish the sequence with emotion: The Fear, The Pain, The End, The Fury, The Sorrow and The...what?

Answer: joy

If you got this wrong because you wrote 'Boss', I clearly wrote emotion. The Boss' true Cobra Unit codename was The Joy, showing the joy she felt on the battlefield. It also created a contrast between her lover, The Sorrow, who was killed before the events of "Operation Snake Eater".
9. What accent did Liquid Snake speak with?

Answer: British

Despite both Liquid and Solid Snake being clones of Big Boss, Liquid was raised in the United Kingdom whilst Solid grew up in the United States of America. This also allowed the "Metal Gear Solid" writers to create similarities between the two, such as Liquid becoming a member of the British SAS and Solid becoming a Green Beret, two similar military companies but in different countries.
10. Revolver Ocelot became Liquid Ocelot because he attached Liquid's right arm to his body after his was sliced off.

Answer: False

Although this is what you are lead to believe, this is not the case. It was all a ruse to fool the Patriots, Ocelot willing transplanted Liquid's personality in place of his own using nanomachines, drugs and psychotherapy.
