Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Zigzagoon, one of the new Pokémon met early in the game, will evolve into which of the following Pokémon?

Answer: Linoone

Sentret evolves into Furret and first appeared in "Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Version". Rattata evolves into Raticate and has been around since "Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow Version". Zagzagzig doesn't exist.
2. What Pokémon do you help Wally capture at the beginning of the game?

Answer: Ralts

Ralts will evolve into Kirlia and then later into Gardevoir. Ralt's Pokémon Power is either Trace or Synchronize, Trace copies the enemy Pokémon's ability and Synchronize will pass any status problem onto the enemy Pokémon. Abra can be found in Granite Cave and Spoink can be found in Route 112.
3. What steel and rock type Pokémon is first found in Granite Cave?

Answer: Aron

Nosepass is only rock type and Mawile only steel type. Aron will evolve into Lairon, and then Aggron. Steven uses an Aggron on a very high level, which is weak against water. You can later find its evolved form, Lairon, in Victory Road.
4. What Pokémon is green, found on Route 110 and 118, and has Static or Lightningrod as a Pokémon Power?

Answer: Electrike

Electrike evolves into Magnetric at level 26. Static might paralyze a Pokémon anytime it is attacked physically and is a common power among electric Pokémon. Lightningrod will draw all electric attacks to it. So, if there's a double battle, all electric attacks must hit a Pokémon with the Lightningrod ability, regardless or whether or not it was the original target.
5. What Pokémon, found on Route 117, sounds as if it is an electric type, but is actually a bug type?

Answer: Volbeat

Volbeat are always male Pokémon. Illumise is a similar looking Pokémon, but they are always female. Volbeat's Pokémon Ability is either Swarm, which will increase bug-type attacks when its HP is below 1/3, or Illuminate, which will cause you to run into more wild Pokémon when Volbeat is the lead member. Illumise's ability is Oblivious, which means it cannot be attracted.
6. Which fire Pokémon can not evolve, is one of Flannery's Pokémon, and can be found in the Firey Path?

Answer: Torkoal

Koffing is a poison Pokémon. Numel and Slugma both evolve, into Camerupt and Magcargo respectively. Koffing, Numel, and Slugma can all be found in Fiery Path as well. Torkoal's ability, White Smoke, will prevent moves that lower stats, so things like tail whip and sand-attack do nothing.
7. Which Pokémon, found in Route 113, looks slightly different every time you encounter it?

Answer: Spinda

The spots on Spinda's face always look different, although their bodies always looks the same. Its power is Own Tempo, which prevents confusion. If an opponent uses Swagger, Spinda's attack will double, but it won't become confused. A Yellow Flute will snap your Pokémon out of confusion if they are confused. Spoink and Grumpig can also have the power Own Tempo.
8. Which two Pokémon, found in Meteor Falls, are rock and psychic type?

Answer: Lunatone and Solrock

Gym leaders Tate and Liza use a Lunatone and Solrock. Barboach, which will evolve into Whiscash, can also be found in Meteor Falls. Both Lunatone and Solrock have the ability Levitate, which prevents ground type attacks from hitting.
9. Lileep and Anorith will come from the Fossils found in Route 111, if taken to the Devon Corp. What is one of the Fossils you can pick up?

Answer: Root

The Root Fossil will result in Lileep, which will evolve into Cradily at level 40. The Claw Fossil will result in Anorith, which will evolve into Armaldo at level 40. Lileep and Cradily cannot be forced out of battle by roar or whirlwind due to their ability Suction Cups. Anorith and Armaldo's opponents cannot get a critical hit due to their ability Battle Armor.
10. Which Pokémon is a gift from the Weather Institute after you save them from Team Magma or Team Aqua?

Answer: Castform

Castform will change form based on the weather into either ice, fire, or water form. There is only one you can get in the game. In Emerald, the Weather Institute will tell you that Droughts or Heavy Rain are on certain routes, which means Groudon and Kyogre are on that route currently.
11. What timid Pokémon is unaffected by sound-based moves?

Answer: Whismur

Whismur can first be found on Route 116. If you are lucky enough to stumble upon a shiny Whismur, it's ear and feet will be green instead of yellow. All sound based moves, like Metal Sound and Growl, will be negated by the ability Soundproof. It will evolve into Loudred at level 20 and again into Exploud at level 40.
12. Which Pokémon can be found in the cave on Route 125, but only during low-tide?

Answer: Snorunt

Snorunt can be found in an icy area of the cave, but only during low-tide. If you find 4 shoal shells and 4 shoal salts, you can have the old man in the cave make you a Shell Bell, which will have your Pokémon regain some health every time it attacks.
13. Which Pokémon, when traded with the Deepseascale or Deepseatooth, will result in either Huntail or Gorebyss?

Answer: Clampearl

You can find Clampearl in any grass underwater. Trading it with a Deepseascale will yield Gorebyss and a Deepseatooth will yield Huntail. You can get either item from Captain Stern after his submarine is returned.
14. Which steel and psychic Pokémon is found in Steven's house later in the game?

Answer: Beldum

Beldum evolves into Metang and then Metagross. Ciper Admin Dakim uses a Metang in "Pokémon Colosseum" and Steven uses a Metagross in Ruby and Sapphire. The only move a Beldum can know is Take Down. At level 20, when it evolves into Metang, it automatically learns Confusion and Metal Claw.
15. Which Pokémon, although technically a normal type Pokémon, will always change type based on what attack last hit it?

Answer: Kecleon

Using a Devon Scope will reveal several Kecleon on Route 120, although they can also be found in the grass. Kecleon's ability is Color Change and it always changes types depending on the attack that last hit it. If it was hit by a Metal Claw, for instance, it would then have the stats, strengths and weaknesses of a metal type Pokémon. Castform will only change into fire, ice, or water type depending on weather.
16. Which normal and flying type Pokémon will evolve into a dragon and flying type Pokémon at level 35?

Answer: Swablu

Altaria is a dragon/flying type, although Swablu is not. Winona and her gym trainers commonly use Swablu and Altaria. Trapinch evolves into Vibrava, and eventually Flygon, which is a ground and dragon type. Skarmory is a good flying and steel Pokémon and can be found on Route 113, although it is rare. Pidgey is nowhere in the game, but can be traded over from "Pokémon Fire Red/Leaf Green Version" on Game Boy Advance, after the Elite 4 have been beaten and certain other requirements have been fulfilled, unlocking the ability to trade to Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald.
17. Which ancient Pokémon can be found underwater in most places and is needed to gain access to Regirock, Regice and Registeel?

Answer: Relicanth

Although you also need Wailord to gain access to the Regi-Pokémon, Wailord evolves from Wailmer, which is not found underwater, and sometimes, but very rarely, you can find a Wailord while surfing on Route 129. The Regi-Pokémon are similar in status to Red/Blue/Yellow's legendary birds and to Gold/Silver/Crystal's legendary dogs, except they have different types, rock, ice, and steel as compared to previous ice, fire, and electric.
18. Which of these legendary Pokémon were introduced before the "Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald" versions?

Answer: Mew

Latias and Latios appear randomly in the wild after defeating the Elite 4, Latias in Sapphire, Latios in Ruby, and either one depending on what color you say the mystery Pokémon was to your mother after defeating the Elite 4. A good way to find these two Pokémon is to walk in and out of the Weather Institute and search the grass, as it will often appear within 10 Pokémon battles. Once it has been spotted once, its area will be in the Pokédex. Walking in and out of the Weather Institute and checking your Pokédex to see where it is is a good way to find it fairly fast. Since it flees as soon as it enters battle, you need a Pokémon like Wobbuffet (Trapinch's Arena Trap ability will not work due to Latias's/Latios's Levitate ability), or a team of Wobbuffet in case one faints, so it can't escape.

After I had a level 27 Wobbuffet use Mirror Coat once (after Latias used Psychic), it was weak enough for me to catch it after at least 100 Ultra Balls and at least 5 encounters. A Master Ball is a better suggestion, but if you already used it, then this strategy will work too, as well as getting another Master Ball from the lottery. Any damage done to them will still be there next time you encounter it, so beware if it ends up using Struggle, it may kill itself and be gone forever, so save once it has a low HP. Good Luck in finding and catching Latias and Latios. Rayquaza can be found in the Sky Pillar, but you will need a Mach Bike to get access to it. Don't use your Master Ball on Rayquaza if you plan to catch Latias or Latios. Bring lots of Ultra Balls, save your game before you fight, and if it faints, just turn off your GBA and restart. Jirachi can be gotten through a promotion, or the pre-order bonus disc for "Pokémon Colosseum" also contained a Jirachi which could be put on your Ruby or Sapphire game. Mew was part of the original set of Pokémon and although you could get it in either Red, Blue or Yellow without a promotion, it was technically a glitch, much like Missingno.
19. Which grass and poison Pokémon has flowers for hands?

Answer: Roselia

Roselia is found on Route 117 in Ruby or Sapphire only. It cannot evolve and many Aroma Ladies use them. Shiny Roselia will have purple and black flowers. Its ability is either Natural Cure, which will heal any status effect when recalled in battle, or Poison Point, which may poison a Pokémon when Roselia is attacked directly.
20. If you have an extra slot and Pokéball when Nincada evolves, which additional Pokémon will you get?

Answer: Shedinja

You will get Ninjask regardless, but you can only get Shedinja if you have an extra slot and Pokéball. It might not seem like much at first with only 1 HP, which will never get any higher, but its Pokémon Power, Wonder Guard, prevents all harm except that which will do double damage to it (such as fire attacks).

It can prevent damage from even 1-Hit KO moves or powerful moves like Hydropump or Hyper Beam!
