Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Route 119 is one really long route. Which of the following do you not need to fully explore it?

Answer: HM 01 (Cut)

Route 119 takes you from Mauville City, which is about Mid-Hoenn, to Fortree City, which is virtually the northern-most city in the game (apart from Fallarbar Town, which is on the same parallel as Fortree City). You'll want to come back to this route with Surf, Waterfall, and the Acro Bike sometime.

There are a few rare berries and other items, as well as a bunch of potential Secret Bases.
2. There is a large building on the northern part of Route 119 that your enemy team has taken over. What is this building?

Answer: Weather Institute

The Weather Institute incident is a small-time operation for your enemy team. None-the-less, there are a few Grunts to be taken care of, and Admin to beat, and some scientists to free. They're nothing compared to the two Gym Leaders you recently fought. Once the hostages (scientists) have been freed they will give you a Castform.

This is the only one you'll get in the whole game. Castform actually changes depending on the weather, and also has some weather control moves of its own. It's an interesting Pokémon, but not too powerful, and its move set makes it difficult to use in battle.
3. While finishing your journey up to Fortree City your rival will challenge you. After the battle, he/she will give you which useful item?

Answer: HM02 (Fly)

Fly will allow you to travel to any city or town you've already visited, but you need Fortree's badge first. In battle, Fly takes two turns to use. In the first the user flys up high where most attacks can't hit it (There are some logical exceptions to this. Pokémon in mid-flight can still be hit by Thunder, Blizzard, Gust, etc). On the second turn the user comes down and strike its target.
4. There is an invisible Pokémon blocking your way to the Fortree Gym. To identify it, you'll need the Devon Scope. Who gives you the Devon Scope?

Answer: Steven

Steven is that guy you met back in Granite Cave near Dewford Town. He'll ask you to get ready, and then activate the scope to reveal a Pokémon. After his little demonstration, he'll give you the scope to use.
5. What Pokémon is blocking the entrance to the Fortree Gym?

Answer: Kecleon

Use the Devon Scope to see the Kecleon. This is one of the two Kecleon that won't attack you when revealed; it'll just run away. Once it's out of the way you will be able to enter the gym to challenge a slightly different puzzle.
6. What is the Fortree Gym Leader's name?

Answer: Winona

Winona uses Flying type Pokémon. Her Pokémon include Swellow, Pelipper, Skarmory, and Alteria. All of them are Flying and something else, making this a difficult battle if you don't exploit weaknesses, and it's still a challenge if you do.
7. What is the name of the badge you get from the Fortree Gym Leader?

Answer: Feather Badge

The Feather Badge allows you to use Fly outside of battle. Fly is quite useful when you want to get from one place to another quickly; you'll be able to go to any town or city you've already visited.
8. On Route 121 (just west of Lilycove City) there's a place you'll want to remember. What is the place where you can catch as many Pokémon you want in 500 steps?

Answer: Safari Zone

The Safari Zone is the exclusive home to many Pokémon. Every time you enter you get 30 Safari Balls and 500 steps. When either of them runs out, you game is up, but you can always come back and try again. To fully explore the Safari Zone, You'll need to go at least twice because you need both bikes to explore it fully.
9. Now let's head down to Mt. Pyre. What is Mt. Pyre?

Answer: A monastery for Pokémon

This is where Pokémon are laid to rest once they've run through their lives. There are a bunch of trainers scattered throughout the interior of the mountain, but your objective lies at the top, which will require that you take a different route, on the outside of the mountain.
10. What does your enemy team take from Mt. Pyre?

Answer: An Orb

If you're playing "Sapphire" Team Aqua will take the Red Orb. If you're playing "Ruby" Team Magma will take the Blue Orb. The elderly couple at the top of Mt. Pyre will try to persuade your enemy team into not taking the orb, but they do not succeed. Once you get to the top, they'll explain that the two orbs should never be separated and will give you whichever one your enemy team left behind. You'll need this later.
