Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the company that originally developed 'Pac-Man'?

Answer: Namco

'Pac-Man' was released in Japan in May 1980. It became an immensely popular icon in the 1980s and one of the most classic and phenomenal video games of all time. The object of the game is for the yellow 'Pac-Man' to run through a maze and eat dots while trying to avoid his enemies from eliminating him.
2. In the English language, what is the nickname of the red ghost?

Answer: Blinky

The ghosts are enemies to 'Pac-Man' and try constantly to destroy it. 'Pac-Man' is killed off if touched by one of these monsters. After it's killed off three times, the game is over. The ghosts are known as Shadow, Speedy, Bashful and Pokey. Their respective nicknames and colors are Blinky (Red), Pinky (Pink), Bashful (Minty Green) and Clyde (Orange).
3. What gives Pac-Man the ability to eat the ghosts?

Answer: power pellets

These are four bigger dots that appear in each corner of the maze. If Pac-Man eats one of the four bigger dots around the maze, it has the ability to eat the ghosts. When this happens, the only their eyes remain visible but they go back to the center of the maze and get their original color back. In this case, Pac-Man again has to compete with them.
4. What is usually the first bonus item that appears in the center of the maze?

Answer: a cherry

These items often vary as the game progresses. When Pac-Man eats these, the player will gain additional points.
5. Who was the first person to achieve a perfect play score?

Answer: Billy Mitchell

Mitchell performed this goal in July 1999, after a playtime of six hours. However, David Race beat his score in 2009 after playing for only three hours and forty minutes, setting a record.
6. How many dots are there in a maze?

Answer: 240

When Pac-Man eats all these dots, the maze clears and new dots show up. Pac-Man must eat all these as well.
7. Which of these was the first game to follow the original "Pac-Man"?

Answer: Ms. Pac-Man

'Ms. Pac-Man' was released in 1981. It was created by General Computer corporation and has several different rules from 'Pac-Man'. Some of these are faster gameplay and a bigger maze. It was sold to Midway without the permission of Namco and they completely severed relations with Midway.
8. What was the inspiration for the appearance of Pac-Man?

Answer: A pizza with one slice missing

'Pac-Man' was designed to look like a 7-slice pizza because it was believed the lack of completion made much better advertising. They also believed it would appeal to the public.
9. When does the game officially end for the player?

Answer: When three lives are eaten by ghosts

If there is one life left, the game can go on until the last life is eaten. However, when all seven fruits are eaten, the ghosts tend to move faster and for the average player, it is not always possible to maintain the last life.
10. Which of these was inspired by 'Pac-Man'?

Answer: These are both correct

'Pac-Man' was aired on Saturday mornings on ABC from 1982 to 1984. In 1982, a pop duo called Buckner and Garcia released a novelty single called 'Pac-Man Fever'.
