Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. By the beginning of Chapter 5, how many locations can Mario visit via blue sewer pipe?

Answer: Four

Using power-ups and party members obtained by this point in the game, Mario can unlock the blue pipes directing him to Goomba Village, Koopa Village, Dry, Dry Outpost, and Boo Mansion. It isn't until Mario's next party member joins the group that he can access the pipe taking him to Lavalava Island. Because the events of Chapter 4 were confined to Toad Town, no new pipes were necessary for Mario to discover in that time.

Instead, he can use Watt's power to find rank-raising blocks throughout. By this point, all of Mario's companions can have Super Rank.
2. How does Mario reach Lavalava Island?

Answer: On the back of a whale

Arriving in Toad Town Harbour, the fun will begin. At the end of one of the docks on the pier will be a whale on which Mario can spin jump. When the whale surfaces he'll ask for Mario's help- there's something inside him that's giving him a stomach ache.

When Mario heads inside and uses Watt to light the place up, he'll find a Fuzzy who he'll need to attack. Quelling this unusual pain will make the whale happy and he'll offer Mario a ride across the sea to any location. Twink suggested Lavalava Island for the next star location, so that's where they decide to go.
3. What is the name of the character who joins Mario's party in this chapter?

Answer: Sushie

Coming across Yoshi Village on Lavalava Island, Mario comes across Sushie taking care of the Yoshi Kids of the town. Heading east, nothing really comes of this first trip when Mario discovers that there's no way to reach Lavalava Island's volcano from his current location so he'll need to return to the Village.

This is when things go bad. The Yoshi Kids are missing and so is Sushie. Mario can find Sushie in the forest north of town (in a tree) and she'll join the party to help locate the missing youngsters. Outside of battle, if Mario presses C-down, he can ride Sushie across water.
4. How many Yoshi Kids must be found by Mario?

Answer: Five

Mario and Sushie, now together, are able to cruise through the waters of Lavalava Island to search for the five Yoshi Kids (who call themselves the Fearsome Five). Taking off from the docks, Mario and Sushie can find these kids hiding behind bushes, on islands, and in other weird places, many of them afraid after getting lost during their game.

After being found, the Yoshis will admit their foolishness and wander back to town. When Mario returns he'll need to speak to the leader of the Yoshis who will hand over a Jade Raven statue to be used when you head back into the forest.
5. What is the name of the Raven Mario must visit on Lavalava Island?

Answer: Raphael Raven

Placing the Jade Raven into a statue in the jungle will allow for Mario and his comrades to visit the northern reaches of the jungle where, after a couple of fights and puzzles, he can ascend into a giant tree to meet the ubiquitous Raphael Raven. Raphael, who received a message from the stars regarding Mario's arrival, helps out by allowing for Mario to reach Lavalava Volcano (by creating a rope and basket system across the lava chasm). Raphael also gives Mario the Ultra Stone which allows him to upgrade super-ranked party members to the ultra ranking to up their power. Yay!
6. Who is on Lavalava Island searching for artifacts?

Answer: Professor Kolorado

Professor Kolorado accompanies you on the whale ride over to Lavalava Island and continues to be an obnoxious responsibility during your entire stay. In between getting attacked every once in a while and not pulling his weight, Kolorado will join Mario when he crosses the lava-filled chasm to Lavalava Volcano and make a nuisance out of himself while Mario navigates, finds the Ultra Hammer (his strongest hammer) which can break metal blocks around the world, and discovers the mysteries of the dungeon.

In fact, Mario, if he finds the rank block, can put his new Ultra Stone to use.
7. In this chapter, Mario will fight the Lava Piranha. What will happen halfway through the match?

Answer: The boss will set on fire

Heading into the deepest depth of the volcano, Mario will come across the boss guarding the fifth star, Lava Piranha. This three-tendril plant will shoot fire and reside within the lavas of Lavalava Volcano. In the first half of the fight, the largest bulb will have 40HP while the smaller two will have 8HP. Mario can disable the two smaller ones for a short time if he chooses as it will reduce the damage taken.

When Mario defeats these, the plant will descend into the lava only to emerge on fire! Sushie's water attacks will put out the flames so that Mario can jump on the creature, but the boss' health will be refilled from the first half of the match. After the battle, Mario, Kolorado, and the Star Spirit will need to escape from the volcano as it erupts!
8. What is the name of the Star Spirit found in this chapter?

Answer: Misstar

Misstar is found as Mario and Kolorado flee from the Lavalava Volcano before it erupts. When he comes across this fifth Star Spirit, they will all head to safety away from the lava. Misstar will reward Mario with a fifth row for the Star Power meter and a new Spirit Power, 'Smooch'.

When used, this power takes three bars of Star Power. Misstar will appear during battle to refill 20HP on Mario's bar if necessary. She is the second of only two female Star Spirits.
9. Upon heading back to Toad Town after the events of this chapter, Mario must fight Jr. Troopa once again.

Answer: True

Jr. Troopa, who spent ages swimming to Lavalava Island, is shocked when Mario departs from its sandy shores and returns to Toad Town. Swimming after him once again, he catches up to Mario when he arrives at the harbour in Toad Town. This time, Jr. Troopa will use his wings and shell spike to ensure that Mario is unable to do much of anything. Fortunately, the swim tired Jr. Troopa out. Rather than 40HP, Mario only needs to fight the boss while he's at half health. Unless Mario makes use of badges, there is no way for him to inflict any damage on this boss.
10. Peach, trapped in her castle, occupies herself with a quiz game this time (of all things). What does she get if she wins?

Answer: Jammin' Jelly

Peach, now able to search another floor of the castle having been given a key by Gourmet Guy, will come across a group of Bowser's minions in one of the rooms. Although they should be taking her back to her room, they instead decide to have her participate in their quiz game which asks multiple choice questions about the next star location. If the Princess correctly answers them all, she wins a jar of Jammin' Jelly which she can transport to Mario if she chooses. No matter what, win or lose, she'll receive the Sneaky Parasol.

She can't use it yet though...
