Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Is it possible to become a paladin in this game if you aren't one already?

Answer: No. No class can become a new paladin

It's been rumored that there originally was going to be a way to become a paladin in this game but this was scrapped. I guess Rakeesh was so worried about the Rites of Rulership being completed and the villain being found as quickly as possible so he didn't want to stop and make the hero a paladin.

It also doesn't help that he gets poisoned in the middle of the game. In theory, Rakeesh should be able to make you a paladin at the end of this game. If being a hero in five lands, risking your life countless times, and even saving Rakeesh's life isn't enough to make you a paladin, what is? But becoming a paladin at the end of this game wouldn't do you any good since there never was going to be another sequel, so you can't.
2. Which of the following is not necessary for a Ring of Truth?

Answer: Enchanted by Pegasus

Rakeesh believes a Ring of Truth is necessary to discover the villain behind what's going on in Silmaria. He says that to make this, you need the ring of a rightful ruler and this ring must be forged into the blood of the earth (the dragon blood pool), purified by the blood of a paladin (used on the hero when he's hurt), and tempered by the waters of binding (River Styx).
3. The paladin gets a different item from Rakeesh at the beginning of the game than the other classes.

Answer: False

The paladin gets the Katta pin from Rakeesh just like the fighter and wizard do. Only the thief gets a different item from Rakeesh. The paladin, however, does get message from Rakeesh that the other three classes don't get. These messages include him saying that he senses the hero's adventures in Mordavia have matured him but also saddened him and saying that he would return Soulforge to the hero but the hero got an equally good sword in Mordavia.

He'll also say something different when you tell him about your adventures in Mordavia.

When the other three character classes do this, Rakeesh will talk about Ad Avis and the Dark One. When the paladin does this, Rakeesh will talk about Erana again, basically saying the same thing he said at the Hall of Kings.
4. How many paladin abilities can you have in this game?

Answer: Ten

These abilities are:

1. Flaming Sword
2. Healing
3. Danger Sense
4. Honor Shield
5. Magic Ward
6. Destroy Undead
7. Peace
8. Sense
9. Holy Strength
10. Awe

The flaming sword is the first one you get. You get it at the end of "Quest For Glory 2."
5. What paladin ability does Rakeesh use to learn that the hero has been altered by his adventures in Mordavia?

Answer: Sense

When Rakeesh speaks with the hero, he often begins each phrase with "I sense...." How does he know exactly what the hero is feeling? He uses the sense ability. Rakeesh has been a paladin for a long time so his sense ability as well-developed.

Shakra also seems to have some kind of sense ability (he can sense whether or not the hero knows magic), but he is not a paladin. He's either a wizard with some paladin abilities or he uses some kind of sense spell that the hero can never get.

It's not all the useful if the hero uses it though. It doesn't help solve any puzzles nor does it help deal with any monsters.
6. What does awe do?

Answer: Makes all enemies run away

When awe is used, enemies run away (or teleport away if they are magic centaurs) as fast as they can. It doesn't work on boss opponents like Claudius, Bruno, minotaur or dragon.
7. How many rites does the paladin get extra points for if he wins them peacefully?

Answer: One

The paladin only gets bonus points for winning the Rite of Peace peacefully. This is because the tritons are not true enemies. They were provoked be Minos to wage war with Silmaria. The paladin needs to explain to Hippolyta the way of the paladin so he can bring peace with the tritons and Silmaria.

One would think a paladin would get extra points for doing the other rights peacefully but no.
8. The paladin gets points for helping a total of how many people in Silmaria?

Answer: Six

The paladin gets points for helping:

1. Arestes (solving the bank robbery, talking to him in jail, then telling Julanar about his arm)

2. Andre (learn that Andre wants to be a healer then tell Julanar about him)

3. Ugarte (meet with him but the Guild Hall at night during the Rite of Conquest, then give him a poison cure pill after he is struck)

4. Rakeesh (give him poison cure pill after he is struck)

5 & 6. Erasmus and Shakra (bring Lethe water to Salim and Julanar)

All character classes can help most of these people, it's just that with two exceptions only the paadin gets point for it. The only person that cannot be helped by all character classes is Arestes. Only the paladin and wizard can help him. Well, the thief can help him financially by buying things from him, but the thief cannot fix his arm. The fighter can't do anything at all with him except talk to him in the Dead Parrot Inn.
9. Only the paladin gets points for helping Ugarte and Rakeesh.

Answer: True

Sad and strange but true. All character classes can save Ugarte and Rakeesh but only the paladin gets points for doing so. The other character classes can just let them die and it will make little difference. All that will be affected are whether or not you see them during the ending and the cut scenes and dialogue with some characters immediately after the events. In Ugarte's case this only affects whether or not you see him during the chief thief ending.

Hence, the fighter and wizard have no reason whatsoever to save Ugarte. They don't have to let him die, but they could just skip the meeting with him altogether. There is no reason for the fighter or wizard to meet with Ugarte during the Rite of Conquest. It's an out-of-the-way side quest and it does NOTHING for those two characters. I wouldn't even know about this side quest if not for the internet.

However, you should save Rakeesh. Even if you are heartless enough to let him die, when you go to the town square you'll have to deal with a long cut scene where the guard slowly walks up to you and drags you to the Hall of Kings. That's unavoidable and while it is minor, it is enough reason to save Rakeesh. The only reason to let him die is if you're curious about what happens.

The only characters that all classes get points for saving are Erasmus and Shakra. However, all classes also get a minor benefit for helping Andre; he'll give you a discount for his boat rides if you help him.

You do lose honor if you let people die, but again, honor only counts for the paladin.
10. If the paladin rescues Katrina from Hades, the game ends.

Answer: False

The paladin has more reason to save Erana than the other 3 character classes, but the game does not end nor does anything terrible happen if he saves Katrina. All that happens is that he forfeits points and if he intends on getting married he'll have to marry Elsa or Nawar. When I play the game nowadays, I rescue Erana if I'm a paladin, otherwise I rescue Katrina.

When I first played "Quest For Glory 5" I thought rescuing Katrina would be a game over for any class. I thought Erana was good and Katrina was evil. Katrina is actually not really evil, she's just very selfish. The hero can made her unselfish at the end of "Quest For Glory 4", and he can make her more unselfish in "Quest For Glory 5". If you rescue Katrina, she will cast offensive spells at the dragon during the final battle. If you rescue Erana, she'll be able to heal you and others during the final battle. You should have gotten all the healing pills and potions you'll ever need by the end of the first rite so Erana's healing abilities are completely unnecessary. The dragon is very, VERY tough, you need all the offense you can get for it. That is why I save Katrina. I only save Erana as a paladin because I always try to get as many deeds as possible.
11. During which rite is the "Destroy Undead" ability most useful?

Answer: Courage

During the Rite of Courage, you go down into Hades where you will meet a lot of undead creatures who will try to kill you. "Destroy Undead" works like a charm here if you have enough stamina pills.
12. The Ring of Truth is necessary to beat the game if you're a paladin.

Answer: False

As far as I know the Ring of Truth only serves one purpose. It reveals Minos' lies when he is confronted in the Hall of Kings after the assassin is killed. However, it is possible to get Minos to confess without doing this. Logos will see through Minos' lies no matter what.
13. Only the paladin gets points for sacrificing himself.

Answer: False

All character classes get points for sacrificing themselves. Only the paladin gets points for OFFERING to sacrifice himself but not doing it.
14. During the dragon battle, only the paladin gets points for doing which of the following?

Answer: Healing Toro

All character classes get points for the other three things. The reason only the paladin gets points for healing Toro but they all get points for healing Gort is because Gort has no healing pills or potions. The healing pills and potions are magical and Gort spends 90% of his time stuck with a mad scientist who does not believe in magic. Toro has healing potions, so he doesn't need the hero's healing as badly as Gort does.
15. Only the paladin ever has an incentive to refuse the throne.

Answer: False

When you beat the game, you are given the choice of becoming the king of Silmaria or not. You get the same number of points regardless for what choice you make. However, the paladin gets points for refusing the throne but he gets additional points for explaining the way of the paladin to Logos. After all, the hero learned from Rakeesh, who was king of Tarna but gave up his throne to continue to be a paladin. When the hero explains the way of the paladin, Rakeesh will defend the hero to Logos if he is alive, otherwise the hero will nod his head and Logos will say that Rakeesh would have been proud if he were still alive.

However, the paladin is not the only character class that can have incentive to refuse the throne. The thief can also have good reason to do so. If the thief promises a certain character in the game that he will do something for him but doesn't deliver on his promise, he must refuse the throne to avoid a bad ending.

As far as I know, no character class gets any extra incentive to become king of Silmaria unless you are curious about the bad thief ending. I, however, like to do it because I like to be king.
