Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the narrator for this game during gameplay?

Answer: There is no narrator

Unlike "Quest For Glory 4," there is no narrator in "Quest For Glory 5." Greg Tomko-Pavia narrates the introduction as King Justinian, but the key words in the question were "during gameplay".
2. Who is the villain causing all the problems in Silmaria?

Answer: Minos

In theory one would think you should not know who the main villain is until near the end of the game. However, the introduction gives away that it's Minos. Unfortunately, while you can see the introduction, your character can't. Even if you know it's Minos, you can't do anything about it any sooner than if you didn't watch the introduction and didn't know it as Minos.
3. What character summoned the hero away from his victory celebration Mordavia and into Silmaria?

Answer: Erasmus

Summoning the hero to Silmaria was a good idea. Silmaria was in trouble and in need of the hero. Furthermore, the hero wanted to go to Silmaria. He never wanted to be in Mordavia. However, the timing was a little insensitive as was the lack of warning. If I were Erasmus, I would have waited until the victory ceremony was over before summoning. I also would have teleported myself to Mordavia to let the people there know I was summoning the hero to Silmaria. Those people must have been really confused when he magically disappeared.
4. Who also comes to Silmaria and recommends the hero to the interim king?

Answer: Rakeesh, but not Uhura

Rakeesh and Uhura always seemed to go together in the previous games. Uhura ran the Adventurer's Guild in Shapeir, where Rakeesh spent most of his time. They are both from Tarna. They are both fighters who do not use magic or steal. Hence, they are most useful guides for the fighter in their previous appearances.

However, in "Quest For Glory 5" only Rakeesh appears. Rakeesh was summoned there by his son Shakra because they needed a hero and a new king, both of which Rakeesh used to be. However, Rakeesh has gotten old and his leg is too badly injured for these quests, so he recommends the hero in his place. Uhura stay in Tarna because she needs to take care of her son. She can't afford to be risking her life to become king or queen.
5. What minor character in a previous game now runs the bank of Silmaria?

Answer: Sam, the beggar from "Quest For Glory 1"

Sam the beggar in "Quest For Glory 1" becomes Sam the banker in "Quest For Glory 5." This should be of no surprise to the player as in "Quest For Glory 1" Sam says that he is eventually going to move to Silmaria. You must put $1000 into the Rite of Rulership fund at the bank to enter the Rites of Rulership. You can also rob the bank twice if you're a thief or you can solve a bank robbery if you are a wizard or paladin.
6. The apothecary is run by a druggist named Salim and his wife Julanar. Julanar used to be what?

Answer: tree

The apothecary is run by two people who the hero helped in previous games. One of them is Julanar, the tree woman who the hero met in Shapeir. Although one might think she was turned into a tree as a curse like the Weeping Willow in "King's Quest 5," it's actually the opposite.

A good djinni turned Julanar into a tree to save her from brigands. She had been raped once and it would have happened again if she weren't turned into a tree. The hero helped her in "Quest For Glory 2" by giving her water, magic soil, and a hug.

In "Quest For Glory 3," the hero meets Salim, who asks him if he hugged a tree today and tells him that he has a dream about a tree in a desert that becomes a beautiful woman. These things remind the hero of Julanar, so he tells Salim about her.

After "Quest For Glory 3" is over, Salim travels all the way to Shapeir by boat and he finds Julanar and rescue her and marries her. It may be a shock to the player that Salim traveled all the way to Shapeir by boat when Shapeir is a desert.

However, in "Quest For Gory 4," Dr. Cranium invents a rehydration solution and says that if he can make enough of it, he can rehydrate the great Shapeirian desert. It seems Dr. Cranium made good on that promise.
7. The hero has already been a hero to almost everyone in the town square before the game has really begun. Who has he not been a hero to yet?

Answer: Wolfie

The hero saved Shapeir and Rasier, the homelands of the Katta people, in "Quest For Glory 2". The hero has not yet directly saved Shakra, but he rescued his sister and saved all of Tarna in "Quest For Glory 3", so Shakra sees the hero as a hero even before he meets him.

But he has not been a hero to Wolfie and his people because he's never been to Punjabi. He becomes a hero to Wolfie by purchasing items from his stands and by making a hot air balloon like Wolfie's painting and telling him about it.

In Gloriana, it is easy to get dogs to worship you.
8. What former enemy of the hero runs the Adventurer's Guild?

Answer: Toro

I bet everyone saw this coming from miles away! After knocking Toro out in "Quest For Glory 1" the hero thought he would never see him again. Even when he learned that he had not killed Toro after he saw a minotaur wearing badges in his end-game ceremony, the hero likely thought he'd never see Toro again.

But here he is, running the Adventurer's Guild in Silmaria. Now they no longer hate each other. They understand now that they never should have been enemies to begin with as they both wanted to save Elsa in "Quest For Glory 1".

But they did not know that at the time. When Toro saw a stranger trying to invade the brigand palace, he thought the stranger was out to kill Elsa. And Toro was sort of right. The hero did want to destroy the brigand leader.

The hero just did not know that the Brigand leader was Elsa. Even if he had known the brigand leader was Elsa, and even f he knew that minotaurs could talk and understand humans, there was no way he could have explained everything to Toro before he attacked. Toro wasn't going to listen to some stranger invading the fortress.

However, now Toro likes the hero even though he knocked him out because he saved Elsa. Now Toro and the hero become friends and work together at the end of the game.
9. Who owns the inn that the hero stays at?

Answer: Gnome Ann

"Gnome Ann" sounds like "no man". That is probably intentional because Gnome Ann's inn is truly no man's inn. The food is terrible, as is the entertainment. However, the only other inn in town is the Dead Parrot. Erasmus didn't want the hero staying there because Ferrari is a bad man. Also, the hero has stayed at an inn owned by Ferrari before and it was even worse than Gnome Ann's inn.
10. Gnome Ann describes Silmaria as a two-centaur town. One of the centaurs is Logos. Who is the other one?

Answer: Pholus

Pholus is the weaponsmith who has his stand by the docks. It may be hard to see that he's a centaur, but Marrak will tell you that he's a centaur. He is gruff, but he is generally a good guy.
11. Is it possible to learn who the assassin is early on in this game without using a walkthrough or hint book?

Answer: Yes

If you are playing as a thief, go to the Dead Parrot and find the cloaked man upstairs. Make the thief sign to him, then check your score. Then check the deeds that you have gotten points for. One of them will be "Make Thief Sign to Bruno." If you do this, you will learn early on of one of the game's biggest surprises.

Even if you don't check your deeds, there are other hints that it is Bruno. After making the thief sign to him, he will say "Under the bridge, don't forget to knock." If you take his advice, you will learn that this is just like when Bruno recommends the Dragon's Breath and when he tells you that Spielberg's thieves' guild is in the graveyard at night. It's a blatant lie that will kill the hero if he believes it. Also when you see him in the thieves' guild, Arestes tells you that he goes by the name "B." That'll sound familiar if you've read any of the notes in the bar in Spielberg that are from "B" to "B." And the assassin can't be Brutus because you are supposed to have killed him in "Quest For Glory 1". Granted, only the thief can get these hints.
12. What continuity error will you learn of if you talk to Nawar and/or Budar?

Answer: They will both recognize the hero even if he's not a thief

If you talk to either of these girls and "Tell about yourself" they will both claim to recognize the hero regardless of his character class. In reality, only the thief has met these girls before because only the thief was in the harem. To make matters even worse, the hero probably doesn't recognize them even if he is a thief.

The hero wasn't there for very long, and he spent most of his time there hiding behind curtains. Plus, there were a lot of women in the harem, co it would be unlikely that the hero would remember them individually.

He might remember Nawar because of all her sexual innuendos, but more likely he was too focused on defeating Ad Avis to let himself be distracted.
13. What continuity error will you learn of if the hero looks at the wings in the science lab?

Answer: The text will mention Keapon Laffin is being from Raseir even though he was from Shapeir

If you look at the wings, the text says that the last time you saw a set of wings was in Keapon Laffin's shop in Raseir. Keapon Laffin's shop was in Shapeir. There were no shops in Raseir. The only business there was the Blue Parrot Inn.
14. At the north side of Marete, there is a mythical creature also found in what game?

Answer: King's Quest 2

At the north side of Marete is Pegasus a beautiful white horse with wings. In "King's Quest 2", an enchanter turned him into a snake. Graham removed the enchantment and Pegasus gave him a magic sugar cube as a reward. In "Quest For Glory 5", the hero needs Pegasus feathers to get stamina pills and to fly to Hydra Island.
15. During the events of "Quest For Glory 5" (before the player beats the game), The hero has been a hero in four lands. However, Logos and Rakeesh mention him as a hero of only three lands. Which land do they leave out?

Answer: Spielberg

Both Logos and Rakeesh mention the hero as "The Prince of Shapeir, hero of Tarna and Mordavia." They both forget Spielberg. There are a couple of possible explanations for this. First, Rakeesh had not met the hero when he was in Spielberg. However, Logos learned of the hero from Erasmus as well as Rakeesh.

More likely, another hero of Spielberg was summoned to Silmaria by an evil man. So they decided that Elsa would be the Hero of Spielberg while the main character was the hero of the other three lands.

They were not afraid of offending Elsa, who full-heartedly gives the main character credit where it's due. They were afraid of offending her sponsor Minos. Minos is ignorant of what really happened in Spielberg. To refer to anyone other than Elsa as "Hero of Spielberg" may have offended Minos, and no one wanted to do that because he was too wealthy, respected, and powerful.
