Answer: As you leave town

You can look everywhere in the Pallet Town, but you wont find him anywhere. As you try to leave town, he'll explain that you can't go out without protection. He'll then escort you back to his lab where you'll get your first Pokémon.

Answer: As you leave Prof. Oak's lab

This is your first actual battle of the game and probably the most even one too. Both Pokémon are level 5 and both will know one offensive attack (Tackle, or Scratch) and one defensive attack (Growl or Tail Whip). Both attacks will be normal type, so there are no weaknesses to exploit on either side, although you may have one advantage, if you remembered to grab that Potion that was sitting in your PC when you started the game.

Answer: Old Man

This guy will show you how to select and use the Pokéball, but he wont weaken the Pokémon. You may want to remember this guy if you're into cheating...

Answer: Viridian Forest

All the "Pokémon" games come with forested area early in the game. "Red/Blue" has Viridian forest, "Gold/Silver" has Ilex Forest, and "Ruby/Sapphire" has Petalburg Woods. In Viridian Forest you can catch Weedles, Kakunas, Caterpies, Metapods, and Pikachus.

Answer: Rock

Brock will use Pokémon which are Rock type (Geodude and Onix), but both have a second type - Ground. His Junior Trainer will only use Grounds types (Diglett and Sandshrew).

Answer: Mt. Moon

Mt. Moon is a multileveled cave with plenty to do. You have plenty of items to pick up, trainers to fight, and well as your first encounter with Team Rocket. Finally, at the end, you get to grab one of two fossils from a Super Nerd.

Answer: Helix Fossil

You can't do anything with the fossil you chose (you can only choose one) but keep it in your PC for later. Once you get to Cinnibar Island, you'll be able to turn it into a Pokémon.

Answer: 1000000

Bikes are really expensive. You will eventually get a Bike voucher, but if you want a bike before then, you'll have to pay for by yourself, which you can't, because the maximum amount of money you can carry is 999999. Bikes are items that you can't sell and having two doesn't make you go really fast, or anything, so getting two would be pointless. You're probably better off waiting for the voucher and getting one bike for free.

Answer: Cascade Badge

Misty has a level 18 Staryu, and a level 21 Starmie. If you didn't choose Bulbasaur as your starting Pokémon, you're going to have a bit of a problem. Pokémon above 20 won't obey you (starter Pokémon are the only exceptions) and it will be difficult to get a Pokémon capable of beating a level 21 Starmie without exceeding 20.

Answer: A Nugget

Right after he gives you the Nugget, he offers you a spot in Team Rocket's organized crime syndicate. The game won't let you accept, and you'll end up battling the Grunt.
