Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mission 16: The Battle of Calamari The main campaign is done, but there is one final mission (the only one in "Chapter IV"). When did this mission take place in the "Star Wars" timeline?

Answer: After "Return of the Jedi"

In "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi", the famous Admiral Ackbar led the Rebels in the Battle of Endor. He was a Mon Calamari, a fish-like species, from a planet of the same name. The planet ended up have many different names from different sources, and eventually settled on "Dac" before Disney rebooted "Star Wars".

This final chapter, despite being only one mission long, got a whole opening crawl. In the text, it was explained that this battle took place six years after the Battle of Endor, with the Rebel Alliance transitioning into the New Republic, and Wedge Antilles leading Rogue Squadron.
2. Mission 16: The Battle of Calamari In this mission, the watery planet of Mon Calamari was under attack from the Empire. What new weapons of war had the Empire deployed in this battle?

Answer: World Devastators

In 1991, "Star Wars" began a new publishing era. The first new comic series to be produced was "Dark Empire", in which the Emperor was reborn, Luke fell to the Dark Side, and World Devastators, a Galaxy Gun, and the Eclipse-class Star Destroyer all made appearances.

In the comic, the World Devastators were indeed used to attack Mon Calamari, but were nigh-unstoppable. Despite the New Republic using new V-wing fighters, the World Devastators ultimately had to be destroyed by sabotage from the inside.
3. Mission 17: Beggar's Canyon Luke Skywalker took his new friends from Rogue Squadron on a tour of Beggar's Canyon on Tatooine, showing them where he grew up and learned to fly. What ships were the Rogues flying in this mission?

Answer: Skyhoppers

In "Episode IV: A New Hope", Luke Skywalker was seen playing with a model of a T-16 Skyhopper while C-3PO enjoyed his oil bath. Luke had a full sized Skyhopper, which he practiced in Beggar's Canyon with while blasting womp rats. It's because of all this pilot training through canyons and hitting small targets that Luke was able to blow up the first Death Star (that, and he had the Force).
4. Mission 17: Beggar's Canyon The Rogues had a friendly race through the the various routes of the canyon. Which Rogue decided to fly the hardest route?

Answer: Wedge Antilles

There were three routes through the canyon: easy, medium, and hard. Zev took the easy route, Dak took the moderate one, and Wedge took the most difficult. Racing against the chosen pilot and winning would net a bronze, silver, or gold medal.

Zev was an older member of Rogue Squadron. He was the pilot who found Han and Luke in "Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" after they spent the night out in a snowstorm. Dak was Luke's rear-gunner in the Battle of Hoth, later in the movie. Wedge was the one pilot to survive all three original "Star Wars" films, despite not having a character shield.
5. Mission 18: The Death Star Trench Run This mission was an artistic recreation of the climactic battle in "Episode IV: A New Hope". What kind of ship did the player fly in this mission?

Answer: X-wing

For most missions in "Rogue Squadron", after completing the main game, players could go back and fly old missions in new ships. This was not the case for the Death Star Trench Run. Only the X-wing was available for players to fly, despite Y-wing also being featured in the battle.

"Rogue Squadron" was released just before the "Episode I: The Phantom Menace", so the Naboo N-1 Starfighter was included as a secret ship. Despite canonically being thirty years older than the other ships in the game, the Naboo Starfighter had stats that made it one of the best ships in the game.
6. Mission 18: The Death Star Trench Run Just like in "Episode IV: A New Hope", which character showed up at the very end of the trench run?

Answer: Han Solo

Maps in "Rogue Squadron" could only be so large, so instead of a straight trench, the developers put in corners to get a longer run in a square map. Just like in the movie, Han Solo showed up at the last moment to shoot some TIE Fighters off of Luke's back. A brief cutscene played near the final corner.

Darth Vader never made an appearance in this game, but did in "Rogue Squadron II" for the Game Cube, in which the first mission was the Battle of Yavin. There was also no wisdom from Obi-Wan Kenobi's Force ghost in "Rogue Squadron".
7. Mission 19: The Battle of Hoth This mission was a recreation of the famous battle seen in "Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back". Which craft did the Rogues use in this mission?

Answer: Snowspeeders

Just like in the movie, the Rogues flew Snowspeeders. Because this was a mission with AT-ATs, which could only be downed with a Snowpeeder's tow cable, the Snowspeeder was the only craft available for this mission.

During the Battle of Hoth, Luke realised that the armour of AT-ATs was too strong for blasters, and had the Rogues try a different approach by using the tow cables to wrap up the legs. Then, "Rogue Squadron" came out, and some missions had AT-ATs in them. Players knew that the only way to take them down was with a tow cable, even though all the missions took place before the Battle of Hoth when Luke thought up the new tactic on the spot.
8. Mission 19: The Battle of Hoth This version of the famous Battle of Hoth was slightly different from the one seen in "Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back". What was new in this version?

Answer: Luke used his tow cable to topple AT-ATs

This was a slightly tricky question. In the movie, Luke set up to topple an AT-AT with his tow cable, but his gunner was shot before he could. Luke then flew cover for Wedge to wrap up an AT-AT's legs. Flying around an AT-AT's legs is such an iconic part of flying Snowspeeders, that it is present in most Star Wars flying games (All the "Rogue Squadron" games and "Shadows of the Empire", just to name a few). In "Rogue Squadron", Luke was the player character for this mission, but still got to tangle up some AT-ATs. He wasn't even shot down the way he was in the movie.

Usually AT-STs are associated with the next movie on Endor, but in "Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back", during the battle there is a single shot of an AT-ST advancing along with the more intimidating AT-ATs.

In the third game in the series, "Rebel Strike", players played as Luke yet again in the Battle of Hoth. The third game incorporated on-foot portions, so players actually got to run up to an AT-AT and disable it with a bomb, the same way Luke did in the movie. Unlike the movie, players then hopped on a tauntaun to run to an X-wing, and then flew that to fend off TIE Fighters attacking the escaping transports.
9. Secret Mission The secret mission was only available on the N64 version of "Star Wars: Rogue Squadron". What craft did the player pilot in the secret mission?

Answer: An AT-ST

The Secret Level in the N64 was a humorous and easy mission in which players got to control an AT-ST walker. In the mission, there were four camps of buildings and units, and the only objective was to DESTROY EVERYTHING.

In the PC version of "Rogue Squadron", entering the code would not take players to the secret level, but would make them pilot an AT-ST in any missions they tried to play from the main campaign.
10. Secret Mission The secret mission was only playable by entering which cheat code?

Answer: CHICKEN

AT-STs were sometimes called Chicken Walkers, so the code to get into the secret level to pilot an AT-ST was naturally "CHICKEN" in both the PC and N64 versions of the game.

In the N64 version of the game, DEADDACK would unlock all the levels. Dak was Luke's gunner during the Battle of Hoth, who was blasted before he could stick the AT-AT with the tow cable. IGIVEUP gave players infinite lives, instead of the usual three. TIEDUP unlocked the secret TIE Interceptor craft for players to fly. It could also be unlocked by getting gold medals on all three unlockable missions (Missions 17-19).
